  • Today we are gonna talk about how easy it is to breed your own rats, mice, and ASF's. These animals are very easy to breed in quantity and can save you a lot of money in the long run by breeding your own stock. #Mazuri #Pdzcooprefresher #RatsandMice / @btsradicalboasandpythons

    Great video, I have a bunch of glass tanks lying around, instead of building a new rack, just use what I already have, it's been working pretty well for you. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for showing the grow out tanks! I have a few extra 10 gallon aquariums from before I got my snake rack.
    What do you think about using chicken wire to make a floating feed cage?

    Not all Male rats will fight if your putting them together. I have 4 breeder males that are apart for a few weeks during breeding and then live together for months while the babies are growing and females are resting. I dont take the males out due to eating babies I do it to give my females time to raise the babies and recoup from the pregnancy and raising of the young. It prolongs the breeding life of the females. For some reason mice are just fighters and as you said will fight to the death even males that have never had a chance to breed will fight.

    Im torn between getting the 8 pack of rat cages from LLLreptiles/ReptileBasics, or should I just build a wooden DIY rack. Any guidance?

      The 8 pack cages are definitely worth it and you will never have to worry about anyone escaping.

    Getting ready to order those same tubs for my asf. Do you have any issues with the babies reaching the food and water in the rat lab tub?

    I thought pine shaving was toxic if you plan of feeding them to snake... Whats your experience with it?

    • @btsradicalboasandpythons
      @btsradicalboasandpythons  Рік тому

      Untreated pine shavings are toxic

    • @kerseykrewzoo
      @kerseykrewzoo Рік тому +1

      You want to get kiln-dried shavings as those are safe for the rodents and the snakes who will eat them. Kiln-drying the pine reduces the moisture content to 19% or less, which reduces the phenols, bacteria, mold spores and any insects/unwanted tiny critters that could be lurking in the wood.
      Most bedding made from shavings is kiln dried but always check the label to be 100% certain as there are some that are just heat treated and that leaves more phenols in the wood.
