This isn't a religious song. It's a relationship song.
It is a great song, and an awesome performance. You are correct, it is not a religious song. It does draw themes about David which can cause confusion. 🖖❤
@@IAMisLove , yes. It does use biblical stories to get the point of betrayal and pain across. So many people get the point of the song wrong. I suppose the repeating of "halleujah" in the chorus sort of makes that assumption that it's religious stronger.
The song is about the relationship between David, King of Judah, and Bathsheba. David saw her bathing and wanted to possess her so much that he had her husband murdered. David also played a small harp similar to a lyre and wrote many songs or psalms found in the Bible. In Psalms 51, David asked God for forgiveness for his sins of adultery and murder. I read that it took Cohen five years to finish the song and he wrote and discarded about 250 verses. Some people think it was written about his personal relationship with someone, but that's never been verified. It's one of the most beautiful songs ever written and PTX knocks it out of the park.
@@beverlyburch4467 It's actually about betrayal in relationships. The song mentions both David and Bathsheba as well as Samson and Delilah. In both couples, one betrayed another. David betrayed God, Bathsheba betrayed her husband...whom David had killed, Delilah betrayed Samson. There are many more verses to the song...I believe Cohen wrote 72 verses....and none of the rest refer to the Bible or other religious themes.

A friendly criticism. Huda had a dead pan expression wearing sunglasses all through the clip. Also the subscriber bar appearing frequently being clicked. Nothing like a "click click" over the song. C'mon fella. We want to see your face and your reaction DURING the clip. That is what attracts subscribers.
I was thinking the same thing. There’s so much to be said with the eyes and in a reaction to not have the eyes takes a lot away.

If you grew up singing Leonard Cohen’s “hallelujah” in your church, you go to a really peculiar church. You say you listened to this before and then you start talking about church. This is a song about broken, tortured love. Leonard Cohen did make two references to love stories from the Bible. One is about King David and Bathsheba. The other one is Sampson and Delilah, where she cuts his hair and takes all his power. But there is no religious thread referenced there. You probably need to re-listen to it a 3rd time. There is nothing goofier than listening to somebody talk about a song that they don’t even remotely understand. I’m sure you’re a perfectly nice person, and I agree with you completely about Mitch’s voice. That man sounds like an angel! One of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard! Have another listen to this song. Be well
