- That's right...I got engaged! Just before the new year I became the happiest girl in the world (and still in shock from it). So I thought it only made sense to make my own engagement cake!
I made the stencil design using one of Lissie Lou's Forever Leaves stencil and you can see all my cake and buttercream tutorials and recipes on my channel!
Enjoy!

I made my own wedding cake in 1994 (pre-internet) and I had never even made a large cake before, I was (and still am) just a home baker, and I had never even decorated a cake beyond using a knife to swirl on icing. I blame the Martha Stewart Wedding book. She had recipes (remember, pre-internet) and gorgeous photos of cakes that looked and sounded delicious. I figured if it didn’t work out, we'd just not have a cake. Back in the 90’s, wedding cakes were expensive and tasted pretty awful. Nobody near my wedding venue was making delicious cakes with real butter, chocolate, and vanilla and the commercial cakes were not good. I made a rich chocolate cake, it was almost a brownie, with a Grand Mariner Swiss buttercream- the first time I made Swiss buttercream! I had only made American buttercream or 7-minute frosting. The cake delicious and I had so many compliments. I smoothed the buttercream with an offset spatula (a new purchase since I had always just used a knife to swirl frosting, I had never smoothed icing before) and added a small three-dot pattern randomly all over the cake. I finished it off with white chocolate shavings and fresh raspberries I had picked from my mother’s bushes that morning. We had to drive 2 hours to the venue and Martha convinced me that I needed to keep the cake COLD so we drove with the air conditioner on max for the entire 2 hours. When we got to the venue, the extra buttercream for decorating the cake had split. I ran into the kitchen and asked the chef what I could do, he thought maybe a food processor would fix it so I handed it over and gave it a go. It did indeed fix it but it was a slightly different color from the iced cakes. It was a very slight contrast and didn’t bother me at all. We got married at a bed & breakfast so after I decorated the cake, I left it for the staff to babysit until the reception and ran up to my room to get ready. The photographer called me to tell me he downstairs and I told him I was just getting in the shower. I heard an audible sigh come out of his mouth as he must have imagined he would be waiting forever for me to get ready. I had short hair that needed a simple blow dry and I didn’t wear much makeup at the time. This was before people hired hair and makeup for their weddings. I was downstairs and ready for photos in 20 minutes. I also made heart-shaped cookies that were half-iced with a very light pink icing (again from Martha’s Wedding Book), my mom made the baskets that were the tables decorations- she literally wove the baskets and I still have one of them) and planted the herbs -each had a Victorian meaning related to love, my dad make the Chuppah and a friend carved interlacing wedding rings to go on the front of it. My mom made a linen tablecloth to cover the table that held the Unity Candle and my grandmother made the bridesmaid dresses. I wanted dresses that looked like Nancy Kerrigan’s Olympic skating outfit - navy blue with sheer sleeves. Ironically, a year later Vogue had a pattern for the exact dress I envisioned but at the time there was nothing even close either ready made or in pattern form so she had to hack two patterns. They turned out lovely. I had my dress made by a local tailor- it was a dupe of an Oscar De La Renta dress and the actress Allison Williams wore a dress that was almost the exact same design when she got married. We fired our Rabbi two weeks before the wedding because he was a jerk. He wasn’t our Rabbi; we got married in a town specifically for the venue, we didn’t live there. My FIL found the rabbi but as we got closer he started demanding more and more and it felt wrong. We hired a Humanist Rabbi and met her on the day of the wedding. She called while I was getting married and asked if I wanted her to sing. I said “can you sing?”. She said “yes” so I said “go for it”. She had a beautiful voice and wrote the most beautiful ceremony, I’m so glad I followed my intuition and fired the first guy, The wedding so so much fun, the wait staff danced with us during the last two hours! made a cake for my good friend’s wedding and then retired from the wedding cakes business. My point is that you should make the wedding as personal as you can and just enjoy yourself. There is nothing that can go wrong that would ruin the day as long as you and your fiancé are happy and your family is there. If you have fun, your guests will have fun. So many people told me it was the best wedding they had been to, not because it was fancy or high-end, but because everyone was having fun, it felt intimate, and romantic. I’m not telling you this so you feel like you have to make your cake. If I was a professional, the idea of just not having a cake because it failed would have felt big and I would have felt pressure to make a spectacular design. You don’t want to be working on a cake for days before your wedding, you want to be enjoying yourself and spending time with your family and finance. But it is a wonderful memory from my wedding and it felt like the best place to share it.
Waw that was the year i was born September 24 1994

Congrats!! I feel the opposite. I dod not make my wedding cake. I wish I had but we Eloped and did not need a large cake. We settled for a 6”- 2 tiered. I do however make special anniversary cakes to mark the day each year. That is fun too.

Hi Georgia, congratulations🎉🎊.Actually, I just discovered your channel recently, about 3 months ago I guess and l really love your creations. I am planning in making my cake on my upcoming birthday, my debut actually this July but I can't think of a design😔. I am planning for a black and gold themed birthday party. Hope you can help me😅😅. Anyway, congratulations again.
Very good news for us today we love your God bless you so much
Como vc é tão tranquila p ensinar
Congratulations Georgia! Question: when you make meringues or swiss meringue buttercream, what do you make with all the leftover egg yolks??
I don't know what she makes, but I make custard 🤤🤤
You can make curd and fill cupcakes with it.
I make hollandaise or I add them to omelette (it makes it a bit denser but I don't mind it).
Cheers everyone!!
Beautiful and Congrats 💐💐🎂🥂💍
