You talk about bringing back some memories, if you were a kid in the early 60s when I 5 was being built, Old 99 was being bypassed, all the way from Canyonville Oregon to Redding California,, you could go down and have lunch with the construction workers,, might have to wait your turn but the heavy equipment operators would gladly give you a ride on the Bulldozers or the Graders a Dump trucks and the Belly drops and Water wagons. Met quite a few Women and Men who are in their 60's now Remember some of the best times in summer riding on I-5 with the heavy equipment operators,.
A Euc will always be a Euc! I ran one of these some and compared to a TS-14, a TS-24 or a 631 they're like a motorised wheelbarrow but you can move a surprising amount of stuff and a D-6 to do some shoving. 4 speed if I remember right and a 4-71 to twist everything. Ald apron or lip will work just fine, Toby! THanks and that IS a nice looking rig!
We had a few Euclids come through here to dig up land for a fishing pond. I think they were a bit bigger than this, though; this was the smallest machine they made. Same engine, though. There were two Euclids and one John Deere if I remember right.
@@douro20 The TS-14 double barrels had 4-71's at each end. The front one pulled the front wheels and hydraulics and the back one just pushed. The TS-24's had a 12-V or a 60-series in the front and a 6-71 in the back. There was a TS-32 but it was rare from what I understand but had some mid-sized paddle pans, an 18 maybe.
I worked at the E222 and St. Clair factory in 1974 shirt and tie job in maintenance dept. I don't know much about these beasts they were only making rear dumps and coal haulers at that time. But it was an absolutely fascinating place to see in action. Massive press brakes, radial drill, lathes, cranes, tracer type cutting torch rigs, fixtures and likely every type of HD welding that existed at that time. Frames dropped on one line and maybe a few weeks later turn the key and drive them out. I think Reg S worked at the Guelph factory, my best guess. Gary
I love the scrapers almost as much as the dozers. When I was a kid in the 60's the gubment was cleaning out White Oak bayou in Houston Texas. These things ran up and down all day long. We had front row seats. They'd go down into the mud in the bottom and get shoved out by Cat dozers. The guys driving them would turn those front drive wheels full left and right to break loose the suction of the mud.
Haha,..I'm well used to that color, as in the early 1970's I stated work at a Terex ( General Motors ) dealership just as they took over from Euclid here in Canada. Same engines though,...I can still hear them!
I remember those! Some outfits thought they were Cadillac versions of Cats because they had a lot of options and features. They must not been enough for Cat lovers because I saw more Cats. I remember what I called the push me pull me ones too, with an engine at the back of the scraper.
I remember one of these when I was about 7 years old,sure didn't look that good.Think what I remember most is the 71 series detroit...it has a distinctive sound.!!!
Looks like an Allison Transmission. Can you imagine spending over eight hours a day on that screaming two cycle diesel then coming home to a naggin' wife and five screaming kids? That thing had to have sold a lot of beer and whiskey in its days...
A good Pan Operator wouldn't get caught using breaks anyway... Wow I would love to climb on this S7 for about a day of work. I really miss these things...
Seems a bit of a shame to do that detailed a restoration just to have it spend the rest of its life sitting in the barn or sitting around on exhibit at tractor pulls and the like. Should be able to do some real work with it.
