Have SJE101. Former owner of bb58. This fits better. It’s definitely my exit seiko diver, diver, and maybe even sports watch. I like that the bezel isn’t ceramic. Watch wears thin all round, which is why in this case i like they dont have a thick on the fly clasp adjustment
@@kylechow6072 One of my tests for comfort is being on the keyboard. The SJE is ok, not as comfortable as my stamped, friction clasp Tudor Date Day, but definitely my most comfortable diver. If I had a wish it's that Seiko would do a micro extension like Rolex's Easylink, but even better is Formex's 4mm micro extension. The Formex bracelet is so comfortable you can be on the keyboard all day. This should replace the ugly dive extension imo.
The "should you buy " question is very easy to answer: you should buy what you like. I own an SPB143 and an SPB 297 because I like the looks of them. That's all what really counts for use desk-divers ;-) And even if you are a snorkler of a scuba diver, any depth rating above 50 m is ok. Yes, for scuba diving too, because you don't dive deeper than 50 m anyway.
I like the 6L movement. Hoping for an SJE version of the 1968 diver that the MM300 is based on since it’s my favorite Seiko diver design and will be more wearable as a daily driver than my SBDX017. Just hope they put the damn date at 3 (or gasp…a no date) but most likely they will put it at 430 like all their new divers. That clasp does suck ass but I’d wear it on a rubber strap. No ceramic bezel for me. I’m on team aluminum bezel.
because this is the new marinemaster line of seiko. they will bring out more divers with mm text on the dial soon. next is going to be the mm300 this summer... then maybe next year new tunas 🤙
I hate ceramic bezel inserts. They are sterile, develop no life, and in most cases they are too shiny. I will pay more money for a watch as long as it does not have a ceramic bezel. So anodised aluminium or coated aluminium for the win. I would hope it fades a bit, I would hope it scoffs a bit. That makes it your watch, and that makes it a tool watch. But what I'm wondering about... Can you expand on the "other regards" in which the Tudor will be better? I'm geniunely curious, aside from the T-fit clasp. Regarding the movement, if you leave aside the finishing, they made a movement with the same specs and thinness as the venerable ETA 289x series movements, which are fantastic. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to understand the benefits of a Kenissi versus a good old fashioned ETA289x. I have two watches with a 6L movement (limited KS and Alpinist), and they are cracking.
Great design and I'm a fan... however I'm not a fan of the $3K price point for a SEIKO!! Perhaps if this had the Grand Seiko 8L spring-drive movement maybe, but come'on w/these crazy prices.
I’ve always been of the opinion the 62MAS was boring as hell considering what followed. It a a run if the mill skin diver case with nothing original or to be proud of. The 6215, 6159, 6305 etc just changed the game and are really great watches. My favorite being the 6159-7001. The markers. The movement and the case are all incredible.
*Based ONLY on videos & photos (in person could be another impression) the dial color strikes me (my opinion, yours could be much different) as too dressy, even dainty, for a diver. This could be a prudent, even savvy strategy to capture sales from customers who dislike chunky wrist bricks masquerading as watches, who perceive the color as enhancing daily wear suitability.*
I like the looks but Seiko putting a cheaper movement and less water resistance for almost as much money is complete hogwash. A lightly used SLA can be had for less and blows this out of the water.
It looks fine and has Seiko charm, but in my opinion, Seiko is falling behind in various areas, especially value for money. Not only have many microbrands caught up with Seiko, but they've surpassed them in many areas. 1. At this point, there is no excuse for not having any microadjustment on their clasps. Every microbrand I have not only have microadjustment in their clasp but also quick release bracelets. Erebus and Zelos, for under $500, has both, and they're pretty dang good. It seems Seiko is just being stubborn, as this is something thats been expressed for years. What a disappointment. 2. There is no excuse for anything over 1k to not have ceramic bezels. Seiko keeps doing this coating over steel to give the illusion of ceramic without giving ceramic. Again, microbrands give ceramics at less cost than Seiko. I have 2 brands, Nodus and Ginault, that have fully lumed sapphire bezels, which, to me, is better than ceramic. The Nodus is $825, and the Ginault is $1400, but a 2k Seiko still has a steel bezel, which "seems" to be a cost cutting measure. Come on Seiko! 3. The movements are behind and have always been behind. Unless one moves upmarket a few k to a GS or a top tier 3k and above watch, the movement is going to be subpar. A SW300 in watches at or below Seikos 2k offerings far outpreform what Seiko offers. I had a Monta Skyquest-Coke, and out the box, it was guaranteed COSC levels, not this wide range of deviation that may or may not be the case in Seiko's. The place in my heart that used to be occupied by seiko has now been replaced with microbrands. They may not have the name or heritage, but they will definitely push the envelope to get customers what they want without the shell game or breaking open the bank. I truly do hope they start listening and responding or they will lose more and more customers to brands that will give us what we are looking for. If Seiko just implements the few things I and others are and have been asking for...game over. Anyway, apologies on length. Lol
I just couldn't. Its $300 less than I bought my Tudor Glamour Double Date for which is an absolute stunner of a watch...and a Tudor. I just can't reconcile the fact that I have a LOVELY Seiko Prospex Padi Special Edition (SRPB99) with a crazy textured dial that only cost $380 with this watch's MSRP.
This watch at £3k with that clasp and that movement shows Seiko is trolling us now. It's a max £1,500 piece. Interesting design but it's a look that will age badly.
It's every bit as good as an ETA2892-A2, which it was designed as an alternative too. And there are many more expensive watches carrying the ETA2892-A2
Would never buy a seiko for that much. Longines, tudor, oris, all better choices for similar price.... maybe put a grand in front of it, then people might consider
The bracelet is great actually, you can adjust the links to make a perfect fit since thr links are so small, also, because the links are small and can move around so much, it makes the bracelet curve to your wrist making it extremely comfortable. The clasp is super thin too
this is a fantastic offering from Seiko... Looks sublime on the wrist!! Perfect size too
I love the 4:30 date because like you said it gives you the markers for every hour and doesnt mess up the lume picture.
like minds
black dial version of this one on a black sailcloth strap, bought at street price not list price, is a big winner and the way to go here.
I love finding deals. But I haven't seen these pop up much. The only 099 on watchrecon now is 100 less than retail

That is the prettiest Seiko diver I've seen. The color scheme alone is a selling point for me. Tasty.
The MarineMaster 300 is a legend 🌊
legend status for sure
Rumours are there is a new updated Marinemaster coming out this summer based on the 1968 diver.

I can't wait to see real world pics of it. The leaked pics don't show much yet
My SJE 017 is running +5-+7spd which is great and approaching COSC. So far great watch. I did get a heck of a deal or wouldn't have bought it.
Bruce, great video! Strange question, but does this watch have thick spring bars or normal ones?
I feel like you about it. One other thing is the pin and collars that seiko use. For the money it needs screws. It does look vvv nice though!

MM 300 should be landing soon
Wasnt a fan of this design at first. But after a while, it is growing on me.
Same here
Looks great to me!
Seiko is the only brand that reduces the power reserve at the highest tier. They should really fix that.
The case design and finishing is so much nicer than slab sided Tudor. The clasp is poor however.
I agree
@BruceWilliams it would be fine on a $800 or even $1000 watch, but this is priced at entry level luxury, and needs a clasp to match.
Why is a MM in a 62MAS case?

My only real complaint about this one is the edges of the markers/indices, they're very poorly done, to the point that it's downright unacceptable...
Seiko and their trash clasps unecessarily make their watches look cheaper. It's a major disservice to the company's efforts, GS included.
Weak point of all Seiko and GS models
