Diolch yn fawr. Your recipe was excellent and your instructions clear and simple. First time I have ever baked anything....and it worked, was as if eating "the real thung" back home. Thank you.
I've never made this before, but now asda have given me all of the things from the lockdown home shop i can make this...yaayyy...thank you for making the video x
@@KatieHomeCook I hope to make it tomorrow, well soak the fruit etc first, i enjoyed watching how to make this, thank you, something to look forward to now my daughter bought me the things i need x
This is a simple but super tasting recipe. As with all recipes I can't help "tinkering"! So I removed a tablespoon of tea and added a tablespoon-ish of Penrhyn Welsh whisky and a bit of ginger powder!!! Nice😊 thank you for the recipe 👍❤
Going to make some Barra Brith this week. Not had it in years, my father used to make it, but he died in 1998. Before that I would have Barra Brith when we visited my Welsh aunt and uncle.
@@KatieHomeCook it's absolutely delicious. I've shared photo on my @mahluf_forever_bakery Instagram page. I've tagged you in so people can find your recipe x💕💕💕
hi ! first time made it ,been looking for a bara brith tradional and easy method with enough size for me and to my welsh husband 🙂 , turned out so delicious , my husband likes it , newly wed , im from the philippines and living here in wales uk , wanna impress my husband , so he is hahaha thanks for sharing , such an easy , yet delicious thank you !
Wonderful video. I am making bara brith for the first time. However, when I did the knife test at 40 minutes it was still quite moist. I gave it ten more; still exceptionally moist. I then gave it ten more minutes. I have pulled it and it's presently resting. Have I done something wrong? I think I may have, but am not certain.
@@KatieHomeCook It's fantastic, incredible, wonderful... words cannot describe how good it is. We had it with butter and it was brilliant beyond measure. Thank you for the recipe; this will become a regular item in our home.
2380Shaw yeah you can use a raising agent, I just prefer self raising!! I’ve never tried chamomile tea, but if you like the flavour I’d say give it a go 😊
Katie Home Cook I'm trying to learn Welsh when I can and going to try baking this. I think my Ancestry includes Welsh but not sure. my 4th great grandfather James Welsh Kemp came from Poole England. I know the name doesn't necessarily mean anything but i saw Poole isn't far from the Welsh border.
Katie Home Cook not sure what happened but I had it in the oven for about 400f in the U.S. all the ingredients except used regular flour and baking powder and dried cranberries. I baked for about an hour. I cut into the ends and was perfect and the top was crisp. later I cut further and it was just a gooy mess in the middle. Maybe I could have used less tea water?
Katie Home Cook I had it happen to me with a chocolate cake I once made with beets. It was gooey in the center then the next time I made with half as much water and that turned out better. my grandma suggested less water since beets already have water.
Interesting, thanks for the info I was doing some family history search and found my last name Rigby descend from a Welsh family. Rigby overtime had some slight changes that derived from the name Ridge Farm. Thank you for publishing this wonderful recipe I'm going to give it a go. 👍
Here I am again! Every time I make this I come to this video ❤

It is a very moist cake, and baking times can vary wildly depending on the oven, sounds like you know what your doing! Let me know how it turns out 😊

The big question is: Do you know Michael Sheen, seeing as you live in Castell Neath?
Not personally!! But I know who he is
What do you mean by strong black tea? PG tips?
You can use what ever tea you like, but let it brew for a good 20 mins
Thanks for sharing this
Food and recipes 😊
What about chamomile tea?
This looks delicious.
Do you leave the mixed dry fruit to soak in the fridge or just in room temperature?
Thank you
Fridge usually, but on the counter should be ok if your kitchen is cold x
i did leave it in my kitchen , as its winter now x

2380Shaw maybe... I would always recommend checking the inside with a knife before taking it out as different ovens can very 😊

super video , ill use your recepie, cus you can trace it back through your family and no better endorsement.

I personally don't like tea so I use orange juice instead. I know it's not traditional :o)
Well as long as you enjoy it that’s the main thing 😊
Bara' means bread in Welsh, 'Brith' means 'covenant' in Hebrew. ( Bread of the covenant) The British are Decedent's of Ephraim.
Brith actually means speckled, so Speckled Bread. Welsh is the oldest European language.
