Thank you. I am legally blind and could not figure how to remove the relay. You video was the only one I could find that showed how to remove it. Thanks again.
thanks Vance -- I ordered my relay from Amazon and it works. two connectors are a little loose due to not being the exact spec for terminal mounting, I may solder if needed, but it works now. thanks again.
Thank you for such a great video! We bought the part on Amazon and repaired our Haier mini fridge last night. Such an easy and cheap fix. Thank you again!
I just repaired my mini fridge with the same part. Note when you remove the old part, shake it and if it rattles, its bad. I opened up my old part and the ceramic disc inside was broken into 2 pieces, thus the rattle. Easy to diagnose, cheap and easy to fix vs buying a new one!
It may be possible to just clean the contacts. I cleaned the oxidation off the MOV disc and now it's working, even though I snapped off part of the MOV while removing it.
My Magic chef dual zone mini frig would initially cool down to 39 & 50 but over a few hours would not stay cool. So I took out the start relay and it sounded like a baby rattle!! For $7 got a new one off Amazon and - now operating like new - thank you, thank you - saved me $$$$ as I was about to trash the unit and order a new frig. Thanks again Vance.

Project #22 on how to fix the Mini Refrigerator gave me the confidence to order the part & fix the fridge! Yeah, I just completely destroyed the plastic housing just trying to get the wire off of it (in this video it's blue and you don't show it's removal). It won't wiggle off or let me pry it off. I don't know what I'm going to do except maybe cut the whole danged wire off and try to find a fresh clip while I'm at it. Maybe melt it off. Fire's always good, right?

Great video! I did this yesterday! The schematic shows this is an RSIR (Resistor Start Induction Run) compressor with no capacitors. It uses a PTC resistor to provide Start winding current and then, as the resistance increases, decrease the Start winding current to prevent it burning out. It is probably a 4.7 ohm PTC. I found this video while attempting to repair a slighly larger mini-fridge that had the same symptoms. The compressor got very hot and hummed but wouldn't cool. I believe it was failing to start because of a failed PTC and just sat there with current flowing through the Run winding but not rotating, until the Thermal Overload cut it off. The cycle repeated when ever it cooled off enough to reset. It was drawing about 9 amps while sitting and humming with an LRA rating of 11 amps. I checked the PTC device and was reading about 60 ohms while it was supposed to be 4.7 ohms when cold. I disassembled it and found a coin shaped PTC sandwiched between 2 flat spring contacts. One side showed signs of arcing on the PTC disc and its contact. I sanded/scraped the PTC and the contact and got the PTC down to 11 ohms and reading 9 ohms when the device was reassembled. I reinstalled it to check my hypothesis. The mini-fridge started right up and is showing its rated RLA of 1.3 amps. The new replacement should arrive in 2 days but the fridge is still running.
Great story, Henry. This video is very good, but to actually prove the diagnosis before shooting off the parts cannon takes very little time and is so much more satisfying. I've been reviewing refrigerator circuit drawings, and their engineering is no less than fascinating. The downside to those PTC devices is the way the resistor stays in the circuit for the duration of the cycle, drawing power and heat that has to go somewhere. Even though there are no moving parts, it is no surprise the heat eventually gets to them.
..thanks for sharing,..thought you may have mentioned the overload could be checked too. However, the starter relay was the component that was bad. In my case, it was the overload that failed. That was due the cooling coils being completely clogged with dust.

I have a Haier freezer that "just stopped working" and we lost a bunch of frozen food. The schematic on the back of my freezer (HNCM035C) looks nearly identical to your fridge. As my unit does not have a starter capacitor, and it "buzzes" when plugged in, it must be the PTC (Positive Temperature Coffecient) starter. From my read of the schematic, the "S" coil, S=start I assume, which is connected to the PTC must get current to start the compressor turning. Once the PTC heats up, the resistance drops and nearly no current flows through the start coil, and the main current flows through the "M" coil, M=motor, again I assume. I watched your video to see how this unit comes off. I figured it was "just pry with a screw driver" but I didn't want to use "enough brute force until it came off" without first knowing that is the right approach. Stupid $10 part cost us a 3/4 full 3.5 cubic ft freezer's worth of food. Wife thinks I'm nuts trying to repair this. It can be a "backup freezer" for when we defrost our main freezer. I took apart the QP-2 4.7 2-pin relay to a Galanz 3.7 mini fridge (2 door), found out the white wire is the main wire goes across both pins, the black wire is a stand alone-it does not connect to nothing...so when your 2 pin relay goes out, I recommend a 1 pin relay [connect white wire only]...the black wire needs to be wire capped...To find this part try Ebay its cheaper 👍
Hi i have a galanz 3.5 and the relay has 2 pins (2 , 3). It has 2 black wires to one pin and 2 white ones to another. So your saying the 1 pin relay will work?
Glad the video help you out! Check out the electrical diagram in my video at 1:03. It could also be the overload protector or thermostat. They are also inexpensive parts to replace. I recommend some quick diagnosis before ordering a replacement part.
Thank you. Question? My refrigerator runs good temps, but the freezer goes from 0° to 26° then back to 0° in a day. What could be the problem? thanks for any help. Chuck.
Got mine pulled out and it looks like when the starter went there must’ve been a short. Had a hard time pulling one of the wires off because the connector was all burnt up and black. I don’t think adding a new starter relay is going to work with these wire connections burnt up like this.
I think I have the same issue as you as three of the wires have what looks to be burnt connections. Did you just replace the wires or toss out the fridge entirely? Also if you remember, what was the color configuration to each side, I brain dumped and didn’t take a pic or write it down when I disconnected the wires
Anyone know how to fix it if one of the wires shorted? I had the same problem, but the cable that plugs into the starter relay looked a little fried. I replaced the starter relay, and it worked for a day and then stopped working again. The compressor is definitely on but it won't refrigerate.
i have watched several videos like this. Still none that has a housing like my mini-fridge. I wish more clarity was given on how to know if you have the kind you can't get to ie "disposable". None of the ones I have seen show the wires coming in from the side of a non-removable housing with a slot in it. If I break it before I throw it away I have lost nothing so I guess I start pryng on it in any way that seems possible.
Man I found a mini fridge at a construction site. I hope this works. It was cold when I got it but it randomly cuts off. And now it's not starting today
OK, but what if thats not the problem? Mine is a Magic Chef, not a mini, but apartment size, 10.1cu. It will be on, then shuts off. I unplug it, wait 30 secs, and plug it back in. It will work for a few hours then stop again. During this time, the fan inside the freezer stops moving. There is no frost build up at all.
I have a question, I replaced both the overload and start relays, and my wine chiller s still doing the same thing, the compressor turns on, then clicks off after a moment, I filed down the female connections a bit but that didn’t help, any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I replaced my PTC replay and it didn't work so I ordered a second one off Amazon and that one didn't work either. All they do is click and nothing happens so I returned both back to Amazon and put my mini fridge on the curb for scrap.
Good video, but unfortunately despite my part being replaced it still keeps making a clicking noise and not cooling. The compressor will start turning on with the clock noise until there’s another click and then it will stop
Thanks for the video. Question: I am getting the rated voltage (220v) out of the relay when I put a multimeter on it: does that mean that my relay is ok?
I have a Cubigel K1H8 maybe a relay? It was corroded internally. It was like no relay I ever saw. There's a flat disk in there. Nothing looked mechanical. What is this component? A ceramic disk. I cleaned it up with a wire brush and rotated the disk 90 degrees to an uncorrded spot. What is it?!
Hello, I was given my mini fridge . On the left side of the black box the copper tubing doesn't attach to anything but the black box. Is that ok or not? My mini will not cool. I think the relay is bad. I'm getting ready to take it out and check it.
I have a mini cooler fridge without the freezer compartment. Lately, it started making gurgling and humming sounds which is quite annoying at nights during sleep. Noticed the condenser is watery and dripping water, so I cleaned the drainpipe which was clogged and wiped the condenser. Turned it back on and the gurgling and humming sound can still be heard loud and clear. Also noticed that this fridge does not come with a fan to cool the compressor which seems quite hot to touch. The fridge is otherwise cooling good. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Silly question here... I can not find the exact same starter as the original. Mine has 2 pins on the side (terminal 1 & 2). I found some that are 2 pins but (terminal 1 & 3). Does that matter? I also found some that 3 pins (terminal 1, 2, 3). Can I use that? Any help would be great. Thank you in advance. ❤
hardest part for me is getting the plastic cap off on a RCA mini fridge. I cant seem to get it off and i dont want to hurt the wires or anything else. i need help. rca model rfr322-e refrigerator
Any chance you can tell me what to do? I unhooked the ptc without remembering where everything goes and now that I have replaced it I seem to have 2 extra wires and cannot figure out what they connect to. I have a 2 pin ptc, 2 white wires, 2 black wires, both of which have one wire with a "boot" type cover and the other with a smaller connector. I have put 1 white with boot and 1 back with boot back onto the 2 pins, but don't know what to do with the other 2 wires.
Help! I did everything you said to in this video, and it is still clicking! The noise is waking me up all night! It does well at keeping things cold but the clicking won't stop. about 5 clicks every hour. Any advice?

i have watched several videos like this.
Anyone pls…How did you remove the wires from the relay I’m having trouble removing them. It’s so hard to do.
Elexelent video ,thanks!!
Thank, very nice your help,
I gonna install my relay tomorrow!
Thanks for watching! Hope this helps you get your fridge fixed!
same thing happened to me on my mini fridge. I'm ordering my part today. (crossing my fingers)
I have a question, I replaced both the overload and start relays, and my wine chiller s still doing the same thing, the compressor turns on, then clicks off after a moment, I filed down the female connections a bit but that didn’t help, any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you so much this video help me out
What is function of running capacitor in refrigerator? Can it fix with national rely? Can it reduce fridge watt?
Thank you so much!!!😊
잘 보았습니다. 오버로드 는 문제 없었나요?? 고장나면 흔들면 소리가 난다고 하던데 그런가요??
I replaced my PTC replay and it didn't work so I ordered a second one off Amazon and that one didn't work either. All they do is click and nothing happens so I returned both back to Amazon and put my mini fridge on the curb for scrap.
Timely, same Fridge thanks
I can't find a 2 pin PTC that connects on 2 and 4 only 3 pin , would it work the same
Testing. Same issue w my galanz mini
Any tips to remove the cable from the relay I’m afraid im gonna break the cable
Good video, but unfortunately despite my part being replaced it still keeps making a clicking noise and not cooling. The compressor will start turning on with the clock noise until there’s another click and then it will stop
That's where I'm at
Mine needs a 12 ohm PTC, but they’re not available. Only PTC available for me is the 4.7 ohm. Does it matter much?
I honestly have no idea. If its pretty cheap, I would give it a shot. It might work.
My fridge has the same part. So I am going on Amazon to get the replacement.
Thanks for the video. Question: I am getting the rated voltage (220v) out of the relay when I put a multimeter on it: does that mean that my relay is ok?
What does the little piece on the single pin above the starter relay do? Also has a single wire plugged into it.
When I plug mine in, I can hear the compressor just hum like its trying to run but not run. Is it seized?
You can usually buy the PTC and the overload both for around $10. I would just give it a try before tossing the fridge out.
I have a Hisense mini freezer would the way of removing would be similar.
Great video
Great video
Thanks!
Hello,
I was given my mini fridge .
Thanks.
just bought a new relay hopefully my beer gets cold again!
I don't know. I'm thinking the pinout would have to be the same for it to work.
hardest part for me is getting the plastic cap off on a RCA mini fridge. I cant seem to get it off and i dont want to hurt the wires or anything else. i need help. rca model rfr322-e refrigerator
If the compressor is working, but makes a water sound, and dosnt cool fridge enough... will replacing the relay fix my issue?
Any chance you can tell me what to do? I unhooked the ptc without remembering where everything goes and now that I have replaced it I seem to have 2 extra wires and cannot figure out what they connect to. I have a 2 pin ptc, 2 white wires, 2 black wires, both of which have one wire with a "boot" type cover and the other with a smaller connector. I have put 1 white with boot and 1 back with boot back onto the 2 pins, but don't know what to do with the other 2 wires.
Hi.
My compressor also gets warm. I replaced the ptc. All it does is click every now qnd yhen. Compressor stil gets warm. But doesnt turn on.
I realized after I received the relay it was a 3-pin type can i just not use the 3rd pin or I need to get the 2 pin.
I replaced the starter relay, it ran about an hour then stopped. What do you recommend?? Thank you!
Hey, mine started but it’s constantly tripping. Any ideas
Help! I did everything you said to in this video, and it is still clicking! The noise is waking me up all night! It does well at keeping things cold but the clicking won't stop. about 5 clicks every hour. Any advice?
I have many mini fridge and then it's stopped working but when I punch the knob/light housing it will start back up what is issue is that
