Vance's How-To Video Library
United States
Приєднався 1 січ 2016
Vance’s How-To Library is a collection of videos I’ve made which document and explain a variety of projects that I’ve worked on. I’m a dad to two kids, and I’ve been dying to teach them some useful skills like how to fix a car, wire an outlet, unclog a drain, and so on. When I was a kid, I learned a lot of that kind of stuff from my dad.
Well, let’s face it, my kids are part of generation Z, and are not at all interested in learning a skill they may never need to use. So what I decided to do, was whenever I was going to fix something or do a project of some kind, that I would normally bug my kids to “help me” with (so they could learn), I would record it on video, and post it here on UA-cam. Maybe one day, my kids will be interested in learning from their dad, and can watch those videos then.
Maybe these videos can help you too! Thanks for visiting my channel, and good luck with your project!

Project #45 - Bathroom Fan Duct Upgrades
In this video, I demonstrate how I installed some upgraded components on my bathroom exhaust fans. Upgrades included: 1) Replacing the old plastic vent terminals with better stainless steel ones, 2) Replacing damaged thin hose with improved thicker hose and clamps, 3) "Tuning” the backdraft dampers in the fans by adding weights to them, 4) Sealing up air leaks in the fan housings, and 5) Installing and wiring an actuated damper for a fan where the backdraft damper doesn’t work due to its installation angle.

How is it holding up 4 years later? I am researching how to mount my flag pole on my hollow aluminum column and this looks like the route I am going. I am surprised there is not more information on the internet for this scenario.
thanks Vance -- I ordered my relay from Amazon and it works. two connectors are a little loose due to not being the exact spec for terminal mounting, I may solder if needed, but it works now. thanks again.
To my opinion you should learn how to diagnose it first instead buying something you are not quiet sure is broken.Indeed your compressor could had been broken.
I can hear my compressor running no problem but every now and then I get a loud knock on the mini fridge. Any idea on the cause of the knock sound?
Thank you for such a great video! We bought the part on Amazon and repaired our Haier mini fridge last night. Such an easy and cheap fix. Thank you again!
Not a repair... That's a replacement.
Similar issue. NO current flowing to appliance. Will try this fix before we junk the thing. Wonder how difficult the thermostat would be to replace?
One thing you didn't mention was the importance of doing a hot oil change for both the engine and transaxle because hot oil is more effective than cold oil in carrying away suspended sediments. The Haynes Manual for 2003-2013 Corollas states there is also a drain plug in the differential to be removed, which makes sense because the same oil is being used to lubricate both the transaxle and differential. As far as torque specs. it says 2009 and later models the transaxle pan bolts are 69 in. lbs. and it gives the pan drain plug as being 36 Ft-Lbs. At least in bold italics it says Torque Specs. are in Ft-lbs unless otherwise stated. There is nothing after the 36. Then again Toyota had 2 different transmissions in those years, a 4 SPD and a 5SPD so was the pan made of different materials? For 2008 and earlier it says the drain plug is 156 in-lbs. As far as the pan bolts for 2005 and earlier 45 in-lbs., 2006 through 2008 156 in-lbs. As far as torque specs. for the filter it doesn't say.
Todos opinan pero nadie dice como comunicarse con polk audio ni cual es el telefono de contacto de polk audio
i am fishing for help ,my validine sub makes a hum when the receiver is off ,when i disconnect the wire between them it stops ,i had changed the wire ,changed elect plugs tried different receivers ? the sub has been used with my old onkyo reciver for the last 12 yrs with not a peep.just changed the reciver for a new one and now i have this hum . if anyone has an answer better than swinging a dead cat over it and spitting beer at it i can use the help.
What is tht wire called tht popped off?
Now I'll see if I can also fix my "freezes everything" classroom mini fridge 😅
My neighbor is a sex offender
Great video. I learned alot and have many similar needs. I have new construction and trying to plan out my home automation. I already have alot of Lutron lighting (RA3) and poe wiring for future Lutron shades. My home wifi network is built on 6 TP-Link Deco X50 poe APs and an outdoor TP-Link X50 poe AP. I have all poe wiring for various external Reolink poe cameras with a Reolink NVR. I have my network rack setup with UPS battery backup - Cyberpower 1500CRM, TP-Link POE switch SG3428MP, Sonos AMPs running various speakers throughout the house. My security is a basic hardwired Honeywell Vista 20 Panel with 2 - 6150RF keypads. I was considering also using the Envisalink4 module to make the Honeywell system a smart security system. Nothing in your video was over my head but as a hobbyist you're more "into" the Home automation hobby than I would be. I'm looking for the advantages of not being cloud based or dealing with subscriptions. So I'm very much considering Home Assistant to bring all the pieces of my home together in one platform. Here's my question... could you have achieved most if not everything you accomplished using the Home Assistant Yellow or the newer HA Green module as your server instead of the home computer? Would that have reduced alot of the coding complexity of your setup since the application would have already been setup for you on a HA module for a relatively cheap $100. What would you give up by replacing the bulky home computer as your Home Assistant Server with the Home Assistant plug & play module?
Awesome video. Can those relay be tested to see if bad ?
With the help of the video I changed and repaired both cup holders, right and left. Greetings. Rony S.
Very helpful 😊! Thank you very very mutch!!!
Very informative! Thank YOU!
So on the sensor wire I lost the plastic piece on the bottom that my fridge came with. Does it still run fine without it??
It shouldn't affect it at all. It should work fine.
Your links in the description are not working. Can you verify and update them? Thank you!
thank you so much for making this informative video! I followed your step by step instructions and thankfully after replacing the starter relay my frig is now cooling!
Superb video with the best details of any video/documentation I have seen. Thank you for this. Even the Haynes manual does not have these details.
I agree the video is very well done BUT the Haynes manual does have the torque specs. which DO NOT agree with the ones he used on his 2012. He also didn't mention the fact you should be doing a hot oil change for maximum benefit of draining away sediments. That is also stated in the Haynes Manual and i have never done anything but hot oil changes in anything i own. Every mechanic will tell you the same thing.
How is the GX running these days?
The helpful piece is missing… what wire goes where?
Thanks for the vid! After this, removing the old cupholder was dead easy. The little black cap on the screw was actually quite worn, and didn't come off unscathed. I actually managed to repair the old cupholder by opening the unit and making it slide again. After a lot of years, the grease tends to wear out and cause the spring mechanism to get stuck. By the way, these cupholders are not as cheap as they used to be.
I'm trying to integrate Envisalink into my HA system. Do I paste the YAML code of the Integration into my Config file (after the existing code?: Existing code in my Config File: # Loads default set of integrations. Do not remove. default_config: # Load frontend themes from the themes folder frontend: themes: !include_dir_merge_named themes automation: !include automations.yaml script: !include scripts.yaml scene: !include scenes.yaml (Do I put this after the code?) # Example configuration.yaml entry envisalink: host: <envisalink IP address or hostname> panel_type: HONEYWELL or DSC user_name: YOUR_USERNAME password: YOUR_PASSWORD code: "1234" port: 4025 evl_version: 3 keepalive_interval: 60 zonedump_interval: 30 timeout: 10 panic_type: Police zones: 1: name: "Back Door" type: "opening" 2: name: "First Floor Motion" type: "motion" partitions: 1: name: "Home Alarm"
Yes. That is how mine is done and it works. You'll need to access the Envisalink with a browser and set it up with a static IP first.
Thanks, I used this video to replace my reverse light. You don't need to jack up the GX. There is enough room for a creeper if you use a ratchet and screwdriver. The screw is Torx T30. Always wear safety glasses when under vehicles to avoid dirt and rust flaking into your eyes.
Very helpful! Perfect level of instruction… I was able to switch this out in 10 minutes! Also hadn’t noticed that there was a new face plate in the box so thanks for calling that out! Found it and now it looks and works better than new.
So I’ve replaced the thermo overload and the relay, I’m not hearing any clicks when I turn the thermostat on, the compressor is hot the the touch but isn’t making any humming noise, all electrical parts are working properly, do you know what could be the issue? The old relay was open so that’s why I had to replace it, but it was clicking before and the compressor was humming before, then all of a sudden it stopped doing all those and I decided to replace the relay and the thermo overload.
Our mini fridge just went out. Your video will hopefully be able to help me fix it!
Thanks great tutorial!
Man I found a mini fridge at a construction site. I hope this works. It was cold when I got it but it randomly cuts off. And now it's not starting today
Great video, very helpful! Instead of making the water pump pully tool, I recommend a long "square" screwdriver shaft. Rest the screwdriver against the water pump pulley hub face. It will hit two bolt heads while you loosen or tighten the others. You can also use a long flathead screw driver to install the fan too. Just wedge the blade between a bolt head and the housing. Simply tighten to "good n tight" torque spec for the fan bolts. Cheers
I change the synthetic engine oil every 5,000 miles, the transmission fluid/filter every 50,000, and replace antifreeze every 60,000 miles. Keeps my 2012 Corolla running perfectly! Changing antifreeze protects the water pump and prevents head gasket leaks too!
Exceptionally Detailed… got it done in 2.5 hours… would have taken nearly as long to commute to and from shop and pay. Very Grateful for your putting these resources online
Please give schematic diagram
Thank you! And thank you for not having some bad background music during the video. It helps.
Good video and thanks
Si un vehículo o moto pasa no por el bucle sino por el lado a que distancia lo puede detectar?
Hey cheers from Germany. Great video thanks for that. Since I didn't have any cup holders yet, I just retrofitted them according to your instructions. super. Do you happen to know the size of the 10 Torx screw? Of course there wasn't one for me
thanks for the help mate. i feel very happy knowing i fixed it and didnt cave or was forced to buy a whole new fridge.
Great video for a guy who needs to replace the amp. Thanks for taking the time to help people like me. PS next time please be sure the mic is close by; I could hear you but barely.
I just completed this job in my 2013 GX460 and I am so grateful for this thorough video you put together. Not sure I would have done it without your step by step instructions. Huge thanks for the PDF as well. This was so generous of you to put together. THANK YOU!
What size “rod” do you use to lock the serpentine belt tensioner back?
Eso no es repacion
Excellent video , great camera angles, good tips, no fluff. Thank you. Will this tutorial work for a gx 2022, when the time comes. Thank you again. :)
Thank you so much. This is the most clearly explained tutorial on vehicle loop detector installation that I've seen. Great video
Wow thank you so much. You helped me fix my wine fridge for only $9 and 5 minutes if work.
When this failed did it cut all power to your wine fridge?
You sir, are AMAZING. I followed your video step by step and it was trouble free. Radiator had crack below fill cap so I replaced radiator and figured I would do v-belt and h20 pump as they were original and truck has 140k miles on it (2014 gx460). Lexus (Milwaukee) wanted $3k to do this. You are a Godsend!!!! Thank you for taking the time and creating such an invaluable video.
I was in the same boat. This dude saved our butts!
great clear informative video thanks.
