Thank you for sharing your testing both near and far from the wall. I just bought an almost identical product and was trying to figure out where to place them. This certainly helped. Thanks again.
In the military, we refer to solder-less splices as environmental splices, and they truly are the optimal choice for connecting standard-sized wires. If they can withstand the harsh conditions found on a cargo plane, they would be perfect for any light decorations around your home. I had completely forgotten about them since retiring, so thank you for bringing back some wonderful memories!
THANK YOU for posting this Video. You have renewed my faith in Outdoor Lighting being something I would be able to have on our home. You need to get a Cape because you are Truly a Super Hero.
Thank you for the video. I definitely prefer the track look vs the govee stick on lights. I ordered tracks and lights from a seller on aliexpress that I am waiting for to use with my diguno controller. I think I ordered them with 5 LEDs/m to save some money but I also didn't think I needed a high density of lights. I appreciate your demonstration, helps me be better prepared for when they arrive and I end up installing them in the snow...
Amazing details bud. I am purchasing some for my home thanks to this video. I was amazed with the electrical connection recommendation also. I’m an electrician and I’m even impressed with that. Much better connection!
Thanks for the video! This looks like a great option. FYI- Check your video description, you listed the wire connectors twice but the links are for the controller and the connectors. 😃
This is Excellent! You answered questions I've had for 2 years! I chose white vinyl siding specifically so I could change house colors at night. Now I know I want them as far away from the house as possible. A question; would angling them about 20 - 30 degrees 'light up' the house better?
Another great video, thank you. I see they sell a warm white and a cool white. Their site says that the cool white can be made to look warm, but I'm guessing the warm cannot be made to look cool. With that said is there any reason to buy the warm instead of the cool?
I assume cool can be made to look warm by adding yellow. I suppose warm could look cooler by adding blue. I personally prefer pure warm white for accent lighting so that’s what I would get. If I ever need cool white, I’d use RGB to make it.
1) 12v for barrel but what amp? 2) What’s the longest for data, 150ft? What about max distance between jumps/extensions. I need to know if I can wire both stories linearly or if I need 2 segments. If a data booster is needed, do you have a recommendation? 3) The controller you used can support 2 segments? What about the BrightHome controller, looks like 4? 4) Is the controller Ethernet only? If so, do you have a Wi-Fi recommendation?
1. Ignore my demo setup. It was a power supply from an external hard drive. Enough power for demo, but that’s it. 2. For design advice, I recommend posting pictures to Reddit /r/WLED. I don’t know of a max data length, but I recommend a booster before every extension. My preference is handydad.tv/famp with the X-Connect ends. 3. The photo of their controller is a Dig-Quad which has 4 channels. 4. They only mention WiFi controllers. I know the Dig-Quad is available with Ethernet but you might need to do that custom.
VCC (Voltage Common Collector) is the higher voltage with respect to GND (ground). VCC is the power input of a device. It may be positive or negative with respect to GND. When the only positive power supply is used then VSS (Voltage Source Supply) means ground or zero.
I liked your far-and-near-to-wall holding tests. Have you tried far-mounting with a Govee set, while also tilting the lights to face partially toward the house? Say around 20 or 40 degrees. I think that might get rid of the scalloped shadow effect while still enabling spreading the colors further down the wall, but I don't own any to try (yet). Thanks!
Watch this about the limitations of a Y connector: ua-cam.com/video/zhqqC9orh0s/v-deo.html I don’t recommend splitting the data signal. It would be better to double back so they are connected end to end. Then you can easily create individual segments in WLED to animate them exactly how you want.
Where would the power injection wire come from? (The controller or another source). Also, power injection wire would be ran through the channel starting at the beginning?
I got a question! I recently moved into a new house and there's a duel light swith in the basement hallway. Top light switch runs the entrance light and the bottom runs the actual basement lights. The top switch keeps tripping the breaker? So i traced it all out today and they have a wire coming from a basement outlet running to a junction box. Then out of the junction box it goes to that light swith at the entrance and the other wire coming from the junction box goes to the entrance light. They have all 3 hots wire nutted all 3 neutrals wire nutted and of course the 3 grounds wire nutted.
If the breaker trips when you turn on that switch, you have a short downstream from the switch. The source of power doesn’t matter. Focus your attention on the switch leg and the devices it powers.
Hey. Quick question, my Fascia hangs over my soffits at different lengths. I am going to make it all uniform this week. What is the suggested distance that the fascia overhangs for the optimal look of the lights? (What is max distance between where your tracks sit and the fascia covers them?)
These lights don’t have a specific spacing requirement like Govee. The best practice is to hang them towards the outer edge of your soffit to make them less visible. It doesn’t matter how far they are from the house.
WLED controllers are usually WiFi but wired Ethernet is also available. WLED has tons of effects built-in and the Bright Home Lights app adds some presets to get you started.
Can you have more than a single controller? Top Single eve has power (say 30 feet or so) and rest of main roof / house on its own controller (say 200 feet maybe another 150 if i finish full circle, is what I am thinking?
BHL uses an open source app called WLED and you can definitely have multiple controllers and even sync them. See ua-cam.com/video/Yd-2Sl8v5FM/v-deo.html BTW, I’m installing BHL on my house as we speak. Video coming soon.
Yes you can cut them to fit as needed. The Bright Home Lights app has several preset patterns for various holidays. They’re classier, not as obnoxious as Govee’s. And completely customizable.
Researching best most affordable channel lighting available to buy for my house. I am wanting 6”-7” maybe 7 1/2” spacing though. There arnt alot out there with that type of spacing. That’s about how far apart my old C9 Christmas lights were spaced. Thanks fir video anyone out there found most affordable but good lights with that spacing be safe
I wouldn’t get too hung up on the spacing. Most track lights are 10/meter or 5/meter. Bright Home Lights are 10/meter which look great for certain effects. But for most patterns, I skip every other light at least. Often more. Depends on the look I’m going for.
As far as I know, UL doesn’t apply to low voltage devices. They use Mean Well power supplies which are CE/ETL listed but they are working on a UL option.
@handydadtv do you have a video on that? Also, do you cut them to specific length and closed the open end so water won't damage the inside of the line?
@Ruthlessbone This video ua-cam.com/video/7hAfBb0e5Z8/v-deo.html shows my setup from last year. Not permanent lights, but WLED doesn’t care. I’m waiting to hear back from the vendor to see if end caps are available, but that’s just for esthetics and to keep wasps out, not for weather. The strings and connectors are waterproof. You will definitely need to cut them to fit specific spaces and you’ll need to provide waterproof splices. If you cut the very end and don’t need a splice, you can seal the ends with hot glue.
Plenty people have in my neighborhood, last year I moved to ID and I really want them, I understood that the neighbor paid 5K $$$ maybe one day I could get them!!!
Thanks for the comparison but I did notice that your not comparing apples to apples for example some Companies are using ETL or UL CERTIFIED lights your preferred choice doesn’t. Plus having separate led light vs stings is another difference difference
I did 350 feet, for around 3100 in material, labor was 1800 with a contractor who spend 3 and a half days on a 1 story house. I will get another 1000 feet soon for my decks.

I was a installer of everlights “permanent lights”(trained by everlights). ***do not install**** Their lights are made like cheap garbage. I also have experience working with c9 seasonal lights. The c9 lights that are temporary lasted longer than everlights. Within a couple weeks. Bulbs would burn up. I mean literally burn 🔥. Not just “burn out”. Is there a end cap? These are pretty slick. I like how the channel covers the wires.
They don’t supply end caps. The best practice is to make them with scrap channels.

Angling them would greatly complicate the installation and the lights wouldn’t be visible from the street. I wouldn’t.

I don’t recommend splitting the data signal. It would be better to double back so they are connected end to end. Then you can easily create individual segments in WLED to animate them exactly how you want.
You mentioned using the WLED on the Athom vs their system. Were you saying their system is running WLED?
Yes their controller uses WLED so it’s easy to integrate other props in your display.
Where would the power injection wire come from? (The controller or another source). Also, power injection wire would be ran through the channel starting at the beginning?
The best practice is to run a parallel wire from the controller for power injection.
Do you know if these lights can be used later in a Christmas light show with music??
Yes, the Bright Home Lights controller uses WLED software which is compatible with XLights.
