How many strings can you put together without voltage drop? Also, is there a max distance from the side of the house these can be placed? The controller supports up to 45 meters/150 feet max. If you need more, you need a second controller. The distance from the house is subjective. It’s also your choice how to mount them with open rafters tails. You can get ideas on Reddit /r/govee because these are functionally the same.

Excellent video, I am very interested in these lights however I see that they are only at the “preorder” stage at present. Fingers are crossed that the target mid October shipping is achieved. Our son in law just mounted the Govee system. His work-around to cover the wires was to have a chum who is a “tin banger” by trade make 8 foot long white sheet metal covers that required 1 inch holes be drilled at each of the lights. The final install looks very professional however it requires a lot of extra work and very expensive if you purchased these custom made at a sheet metal shop. Thanks for sharing 👍
Can Govee Pro power and controller work Nanoleaf light strings, or vice versa? Just wondering since splicing accessories look identical and light pucks very similar.
So I have an outlet up towards the top of my house can I have them going both ways around the house off of the one plug in if that makes sense or would I have to get two separate for one to go around the left of the house and one around the right? If that makes sense
All of this style of permanent lights requires the controller to be at the start of the string. It’s your call if you want to use two sets or use an extension cord to move the controller to the end of the house.
I have kind of a weird roof and think I may need more extension cable than what is included in the box. Is there a way to buy it from Nanoleaf or a third party?
No need to replace the whole string. You can cut the wires and splice a replacement light. That’s the beauty of wire covers: they’ll hide the splices. Just keep a spare string for this purpose and be sure to splice the new light in the right direction or it won’t work.
Sure but I wouldn’t. You’d need to cut out the middle and splice both ends back together with waterproof splices. Then try to hide the splices somehow. I’d opt to tuck the excess wire somewhere and avoid the cuts.
@handydadtv thank you so much! I've been trying to find legit RGB c9 bulbs bulb but they're not out in the market. You have to to tweak them a bit nowadays
These things are all 50w generally. I leave my Dreamcolour Govee strip on the lowest setting because I find them too bright, and having them not running on max all the time extends their life. They get dimmer over time on max, say over two years. My outdoor smart lights have a routine with the aid of an Echo Flex with Sensor to ramp up to 100% when detecting motion, and back down to 10% generally for that classy glow. Just enough to see bears, or Sasquatch looking in the window.
One thing very bad about these pucks is all LEDs and rgb going be extra heat which will shorten their life. But being able put a screw to the bracket is GameChanger for sure
what could be the reason I am unable to change the color theme from the app after successful pairing. I just bought a couple of days back. It's always a lighted, solid green color. Any help is appreciated.

@rpatzwald I put them at the edge of my soffit last year. They look different, but fine. ua-cam.com/video/4S5zFCDrHAI/v-deo.html
These look awesome. Can you turn specific pucks on for year round like the Govee? Say one in the corner, one at the peak and one at the next corner? Can’t find anything about this. Thanks!
I have them and no you cannot. At least "not yet" Nanoleaf support response time is a total joke too...
I am really disappointed they didn’t update the app in time for this launch. Big miss.
@@Jingles8302 bummer! So sorry to hear that. I was so sold on these but I really want the ability to do that!
Yea me too! I really like these. But unfortunately I really want the ability to program the lights how I like
@@mikeygeester4284 right it’s all very weird and not fully fleshed out. I have them connected finally in apple home app and the app can turn them off or on and dim them or adjust intensity but not turn on specific scenes that are even automatically linked in the Home app.
I then added them to my google home app as I have a nest WiFi pro router and I can at least turn them off and on and adjust intensity through the “cloud” in the google home app. But STILL can not schedule scenes to play!
It’s not fully ready for prime time….
And I do apologize handy dad TV for saying so on your video promoting them but real world use cases…
Govee allows individual lights to turn on, does nanoleaf have the same feature?
Not at the moment. They are working on an app update.
How many strings can you put together without voltage drop? Also, is there a max distance from the side of the house these can be placed? I don’t have soffits, I have rafters which make it difficult because I would have to roll the rafter or come out about 12 inches from the house. Thank you in advance.
The controller supports up to 45 meters/150 feet max. If you need more, you need a second controller.
The distance from the house is subjective.
It’s also your choice how to mount them with open rafters tails. You can get ideas on Reddit /r/govee because these are functionally the same.
Love the mounting solution. Too bad there is a proprietary controller, it would be a lot more flexible if it worked with WLED.
I’m sure it can. Somebody just needs to figure out the settings.
Just got my 30 LED set today! Currently testing them inside on the floor for a few days. BIG downside (can't find a way) is there's NO schedule Support for these in the app at ALL! What's the point of outdoor lights if you can't set them to a timer???
Handydad, if you have the ear of the app support team PLEASE tell them to fix this asap...
I’ll ask and I agree the app should allow scheduling.
In the meantime, you can do scheduling with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, and IFTTT.
@@handydadtv so far it fails everytime i try to add to Apple AND Google Home... not a good start.
@Jingles8302 That’s odd. Nanoleaf is usually very compatible.
@@handydadtv I get it. It’s a new product and it’s a new type of product to the company so I’ll be patient. That being said I do like the lights themselves.
Not having a scheduling method without having to add another app to it’s a deal killer to installers
For the Govee pros, which channel brand did you use to hide wire and secure the lights?
I never covered the Govee wires. The wire covers shown in this video come with the Nanoleaf kit.
Thank you
My pleasure!
are you still lloving these or do you perfer the govee pro?
I went in a completely different direction: ua-cam.com/video/ogfrC78DQyg/v-deo.html
A lot of work indeed! Thanks.
question, can this be extend up to 200? withouth additional power supply?
No. 45 meters (147 ft) is the max on one controller.
Handy dadTv how many wire covers does it come with? Is there enough to cover the entire length of the kit if you bought the 98ft kit
Yes
Do the wire covers come with the "Smarter" kit and/ or expansion packs?
Good question! Yes the wire covers come with the kits AND the expansion packs.
Can Govee Pro power and controller work Nanoleaf light strings, or vice versa? Just wondering since splicing accessories look identical and light pucks very similar.
No.
Not that I know of. But you can extend the cable yourself if you cut it in the middle.
do you have to replace the entire string if one of the light modules goes out?
No need to replace the whole string. You can cut the wires and splice a replacement light. That’s the beauty of wire covers: they’ll hide the splices.
Just keep a spare string for this purpose and be sure to splice the new light in the right direction or it won’t work.
Can you trim the extension cable?
Sure but I wouldn’t. You’d need to cut out the middle and splice both ends back together with waterproof splices. Then try to hide the splices somehow.
I’d opt to tuck the excess wire somewhere and avoid the cuts.
Would buy a set for my pool cage if they came in brown or black.
Spray paint the wire covers.
Can these lights interact to music?
Yes
With the Nanoleaf app, can you turn off sections of lights in the string?
Not yet. Supposed to be coming in a software update.
cool product and cheaper than their main competition Govee but they o not offer black where Govee does.
True but it’s easier to paint wire covers than wires.
Now if they can make adjustable c9 led rgb color changing lights, that would be awesome! I want commercial adjustable string c9 lights
Installing C9 RGB Christmas Lights with WLED

@handydadtv I always wanted to try these! But a link to how to use WLED would be nice
This was my first video using WLED.
ua-cam.com/video/f_o7fuKZAbM/v-deo.html
@handydadtv thank you so much! I've been trying to find legit RGB c9 bulbs bulb but they're not out in the market. You have to to tweak them a bit nowadays
Can you control individual lights in the app?
Not yet. They say they’re working on it.
How much electric does this use ?
Depends on the number of lights and brightness.
Thanks
what could be the reason I am unable to change the color theme from the app after successful pairing. I just bought a couple of days back. It's always a lighted, solid green color. Any help is appreciated.
I’m far from an expert. But I’d suggest deleting the controller from your app, reset the controller, and add it again.
Thanks
My pleasure!
My HOA won’t allow to have permanent decoration lights throughout the year. Are they not visible during day time?
move
No they go under the house eaves, pretty much invisible unless you legit go right up to the house and check
If you like the look of permanent lights but can’t install them “permanently”, I found a creative solution to install them temporarily last year: ua-cam.com/video/4S5zFCDrHAI/v-deo.html
What holiday are these lights for?
Every holiday.
These lights are for every holiday! They are permanent and can change colors to fit any occasion year-round.
I just purchased the lights. Install went well but I had a few questions and I searched for a phone number! To my surprise none exists!! I attempted to set up a call vis email and no response! What good is a warranty if you can’t communicate with the company. I would NOT recommend purchasing ,
Sorry to hear. I’ve had no other complaints.
who in the world is this "Alex A" person lol
You’re welcome
who has black soffits? I guess these can be used in an indoor setting, like a club or bar, as well...
A lot of people have darker colored houses these days.
Sad Nanoleaf don’t seem to make thread supported devices anymore
Yeah. It seems everyone is doing Matter over WiFi instead of Thread.
To bad the deal they are offering blocks you from using the student discount. Been in contact with support for weeks with no real help, and now they are out of stock. :(
Not surprised.
I ordered a set and they are not available yet apparently. They also have not answered any of my support emails. Be careful.
Supposed to be shipping soon.

Why do they have wires? Couldn’t they be Bluetooth?
Data could potentially be transmitted wirelessly but power can’t.
@@handydadtv Oops, thanks, too expensive to put a button battery in each i suppose.
I’m back to projector lights then.
Forget the lights buddy, I love watching you as a handsome man...;-) Anyway, just because you are so handsome, I'm subscribing to your channel. Kepp up the amazing vidoes.
🥰
I like the mounting clip. But they already have a gen 1 and 2 permanent light set and a pro version. So is this just a licensing name product? This would make 4 different puck light kits for them.
Govee has 3 versions. This is Nanoleaf.
Your title says no more wires?
What do I see at the first minute of the video!
Miles and miles of wires. 😂😂😂😂😂
I thought this was a battery and solar powered. 😢
Hopefully you watched long enough to hear my point.
You will still have wires with a battery or solar powered system. Likely more wires than this 110V AC system.
@@blistery1875
😳😂
Only wires will be on the strings of lights.
You don't have to run 100s of feet of extension cords to the wall socket.
@@wt9653 Hundreds of feet? The majority of homes have outdoor AC outlets so a properly planned installation entails a relatively short extension to reach the outlet. My L shaped bungalow will require a splice and a short extension. “Easy Peasy”
Solar powered option has a much greater possibility of longer power supply in order to achieve the best solar panel location.
Before watching this video, did you think that each light has its own dedicated little solar panel so that wires were not required? Even though that would not work due to the installation of these units being installed where the sun doesn’t shine? I think you did.😆🤪
I stand by my original statement to you.
@@blistery1875
Very few New houses do. You have to have a custom built homes with special requests to have it added. That come with price
Any houses before the 1980s only have one outlet.
1960s and older have no outlets.
The controller does not look like it can be mounted.
You’d need to use clips on the wires.
The controller can indeed be mounted using either the adhesive backing or the provided screws that come with the kit!
Buy now before GoVee sues Nanoleaf
Have you seen all the copycats out there? Nanoleaf is late to the game.

You forgot to check off UA-cam's paid placement. According to UA-cam's paid placement documentation, "free product" is considered paid placement.
Read the policy again and show me where it says demo products are the same as paid placements.
@@handydadtv Don't play word games. Demo products = "free of charge products" The link won't come through - so check you spam in the next comment. Here's the whole section,

From support.google.com/youtube/answer/154235?hl=en#zippy=%2Cwhat-do-we-mean-when-we-talk-about-paid-product-placements-sponsorships-endorsements:
“You may include paid product placements, endorsements, sponsorships, or other content that requires disclosure to viewers in your videos. You have to let us know if you include any of those by selecting the paid promotion box in your video details.
Paid product placements are pieces of content that are created for a third party in exchange for compensation. This content is also where the third party's brand, message, or product is integrated directly into the content.
Sponsorships are pieces of content that have been financed in whole or in part by a third party. Sponsorships generally promote the brand, message or product of the third party without integrating the brand, message, or product directly into the content.”
