While I was aware there was a lore behind Planetside, I just worked under the assumption that the entire war boils down to what colour scheme everybody has to wear to the next NS Fashion Show.

VS did left Auraxis after achieving Hyperspeed with a Vanutec Ship powered by Beetlegeuses.
TR had no Ammo left since their Bullets are still technology from our time leading them to experiment with Vanu tech and blowing themselves away leading Auraxis to a shitty state.
Only NC is left and now they teamkill themselves for eternity in Planetdide Arena

I think the lore is intentionally vague so none of the three factions appears clearly as the good or bad one.
Either that or the devs perfectly knew that players would ignore the lore and assume that TR = Dictators and Authoritarians, NC = Greedy businessmen and Anarchists and VS = Mad scientists and fanatic cult members.

Battletech has extensive and detailed lore, and never once makes any faction (except occasionally Davion) out to be the objective good guys. I love Planetside, but the lore is only there to give you a semi-plausible reason to shoot at the guys in differently-colored armor.

I've always viewed it that the aliens are studying humans from afar, to absorb humans into their empire; likely as a warrior race. The whole planet is effectively a lab/stomping ground with each continent having mostly a single biome to test what kind of climates the tested species can preform in.

    • @DiabloDelMer1
      @DiabloDelMer1 2 роки тому +5

A bit late of a response, but I fully agree with this theory. Everything from how the wormholes worked, the reveal of the Vanu artifact, the sudden absorption of the exploratory fleet together with the collapse of the wormhole directly there-after, and that the only planet viable for terraforming just happened to have the super -advanced nanite technology that just happened to be readily reverse-engineerable by the human settlers; everything points to the Vanu intentionally drawing humanity to Auraxis. Hell, it may even be possible that the Vanu had a far more direct hand in the formation of the TR and the NC, just as they do with the VS (and probably the NS).
Speaking of the VS, I hate them with a burning passion, but I will admit their faction is interesting. The origin of their existence is paradoxical, as they're originally made up of scientists, engineers and great-thinkers- the types you normally associate with empirical truths -yet they're driven by an essence of faith, zeal, and notions of the supernatural. With that in mind, in makes sense that while the VS are all about Tech, it's NS who seems to have the greatest grasp on how to manipulate the nanite technology. There's a damn good chance that the Vanu are deceiving the VS as to the nature of the nanites and warp technology. After all, we saw what happened when the VS did try to mess with that tech on a deeper level. It resulted in a wrecked warpgate and all the weird stuff that followed.

In the old lore it was stated that while the New Conglomerate shot first; it was the Vanu who orchestrated the initial incident between the TR and NC* as a conspiracy to enable thier own cessesion. Everything started because of those greedy powerhungry two-face NC. First they "joined" to the TR to "discover" the new solar region, then they said "Fuck, we WANT all of this!" so they blew up Connery's ship, thought TR ended with him. After that they assassinated Briggs "seem like a suicide" to disband VS. But TR had a very rigid yet logical hierarchy so they stayed as a "Terran Republic ForEver"-team, and the followers of Vanu's heart stayed faithful for Briggs dream. NC propaganda the "FREEEDOOOOM!!!'. They don't want freedom, they just want free MARKET. Because Business and Money is their God. Those heretic liars...

It's a real shame, there's a lot of potential here. Even the concept of nanites could bring some really dark and messed up ideas with it: soldiers experiencing the shock of dying over and over, pondering their own humanity as they realize that they're just nanite reconstructions after their first "death," becoming colder and more distant as they kill more and more, and knowing that not even death can let them leave. Auraxis is literally hell, and they could do so much more with that idea.

I joined the Vanu Sovereignty because I actually believe that technology can help improve humanity, but at the same time I can see why the TR and NC hate Vanu because of the enhancements the VS soldiers are suppose to have. Also I think immersion is what this game needs. I do my best to be an absolute zealot for Vanu, but when I see a vehicle with VS colours that isn't floating what little immersion there is disappears. Obviously you can’t fit every single detail
    in the lore in this video but I’d like to point out some things;
-The T1A Unity’s weapon description heavily
implies that the formation of Terran Republic Earth wasn’t as peaceful
-The New Conglomerate (or rather, the
smaller business that now make up the NC) did help the TR (Earth) expand out
-The TR was never a socialist utopia nor
had anything to do with communism before Auraxis was colonized
-There are heavy implications that Brent
Waterson (TR Commander) staged the destruction of Discovery 7 where Connery and
many NC Executives died to rise to power and blamed the NC. In his own words; “Because no one will ever find out, Adam. Who
would question us if we pinned it on some of Mattherson’s starving N.C.
cronies? We’re calling the shots here, remember? I trust that you’ll comply,
given the terms of our agreement, correct?” (Planetside 2 Origins - Conspiracy)
-One major detail that caused the NC to
rebel (and in turn; the VS) just comes down to how Waterson broke his promise
and became super authoritarian. While Martial Law was put in place whilst they
were still stranded in space (after Connery’s death), the Martial Law was
promised to be lifted once they landed on New Earth / Auraxis, but instead, it continued
on for around about 200 years
-The TR Auraxis and the NC were
co-operating (under martial law) that help shape Auraxis for human colonization.
NS also took part in this using their Nanotech. At some point before the war,
the NC also created underground cities
Also bonus points for mentioning BSG :^)

    @The_Moe_Szyslak_Exp_feat_Homer 4 роки тому +5

I always though the original Planetside 1 lore was way superior to the retconned Planetside 2 lore anyway.
For example, in the new lore, the wormhole between Auraxis and Earth was a one way trip. The wormhole collapsed imidiately after passing and half the ships were destroyed. I really dislike this idea, because in the original, the wormhole stayed open for several decades or so, with supplies and intel being sent back and forth. Then after a while, communications with Earth started becoming less frequent, then all of a sudden, the wormhole collapsed.
This brings a whole other element of tension and mystery to the story. Why did they communicate less frequently before the collapse? By this point, the TR knew there was once aliens on Auraxis. Is it possible that the wormhole was a trap to lead resources away from Earth? Could Earth be under attack!? This is why the main goal of the TR is to re-establish control and find a way back to Earth. In the new lore, they don't really have that motive or urgency. I mean, imagine if they one day managed to re-open the wormhole, and our entire solarsystem was just a nuked hellscape...
For example, I hate what they did to the planet Auraxis. In the original, part of the great mystery was how the planet already had a perfectly breathable atmosphere with tons of plants around. But that wasn't even the biggest mystery, but rather the fact that there were tons of plants, but not a single animal lifeform, not even a single bacteria or virus. Except that wasn't even the biggest mystery either: how can there be alien structures on this planet, yet no animals?
Did they somehow kill all life on the planet except plant? Was the planet terraformed specifically for humans?
There was a looming feeling of everything seeming too good to be true. This caused the TR to become paranoid as fuck, fearing that the aliens were plotting against humanity. It took one insurbordinate, and curious pilot for them to find out wtf the warpgates even did. Turns out it made them immortal, because that pilot just refused to be permanently executed.
On the other hand, there was a growing cult of scientists that believed the Vanu were benevolent and had lead humanity to Auraxis as a gift. So they just took all the tech they found around and implemented it to their stuff and bodies, completely ignoring the TR's fears that all that tech might be a trap to be used against them in the future.
In the new lore, they just terraformed Auraxis, cause they can do that apparently... The new lore has more characters and politics, but now there's no mystery, no philosophical questions, no tension. Just watch this youtube series on the PS1 lore and tell me it's not epic: ua-cam.com/video/XB9yHmQZmAM/v-deo.html
As far as Planetside Arena is concerned though, I don't know why they even bothered. They could have just said the whole thing is just part of a VR training regiment all the factions use and called it a day.

also sprinkled into a few update notes here and there are hints at what's happening I recall when the game put the lattice system in, the devs made a blurb about how the three factions in order to make the transfer of nanites more efficient to their warpgate constructed "pipelines underground" or something like that meaning you'd have to capture the next base in the "Pipeline" in order to send those "Nanites" back to your warpgate suggesting what the factions are fighting over is territory and by owning territory that somehow sends nanites to that faction. In addition, the cortium crystal's were suggested in the update notes they first appeared in to be randomly springing from the ground for reasons unknown by the three factions, and that the technology was quickly being harvested and created, to utilize them.
Also personal headcannon is that the war in planetside 1 happened and the war in planetside 2 is just being continued from the war in planetside 1.

Some fans and I think pieces of the original lore have retconned it to originally the TR used rebirthing for their most elite soldiers and did not invest heavily into the wider development because conquering death itself is kind of a big deal and dangerous to the whole of society. NS who had yet to become a neutral party and the scientists who would become the VS leaked the technology to the world thinking that immortality and near-infinite resources would stop the war and force a peaceful outcome.

    • @BattalionMouse
      @BattalionMouse 4 роки тому

(Oops this went long and kinda tangental. TL;DR at end.)
I don't have any titles off-the-bat, but maybe if I think "out loud" I can find one.
To characterize your content, a good example comes around the time that DX11 was being introduced and directly after, around the time that you'd come to the conclusion that battle flow was not going to be improved upon anytime soon. The first thing that struck me around this time (pretty much when I found the channel) was the strong reasoning and foresight invovled in taking pieces of the patches and really understanding what they meant not just for gameplay, but also the direction and intent of the title as a whole. The same thing comes to mind when you talk about what it means for servers to open/close/redistribute. Many folks will see as far as this thing getting nerfed or that thing getting buffed, but it's difficult to go deeper.
Another thing that you do very well is tempering the community during the changes and periods of uncertainty. It's clear that this means a lot to you! You try to encourage the playerbase not to focus on complaining or grumbling at rough patches, but to embrace/adapt to the changes as much as possible and continue on with enjoying and developing the game. And then even in this video, while Daybreak's focus in on another title entirely, we're still here trying to draw out as much value from PS2 as we can. I'm an arts guy, and the detail that you're asking from this lore is so important! That kind of specificity and *intentionality* is a gold-mine when it comes to finding ways to engage and immerse an audience in a book or movie or game. How much do we care about LOTR's seige of Helm's Deep if we don't have the desperate stakes and bleak context, right?
Anyway, none of that was the question and I didn't end up with a particular game haha. But from an outside perspective, those are things that stand out to me about this channel and if you play to your strengths, I'm sure you can create engaging content for any title that you honestly enjoy. (You happy = Audience happy). To me, Planetside is a strategic-yet-arcadey large-scale FPS... but my knowledge of titles is kinda limited so I don't know what could scratch those itches.
TL;DR - You have a positive, journalistic style that does a great job in following the big-picture and encouraging the community to keep it cool. Play to those strengths and I'm sure it'll be lovely as long as you're having fun.

I’ve always regarded this games story as a live narrative that has been in motion since the beginning of launch. The stories and characters that were established during the early days of each servers launch are now legends among those who still are around all these years. Those early victories, and devastating defeats in the primordial era, the time where the it was truly an open frontier where the prize was the glory of first victory.(Indar on Helios was the last to be conquered and let that be an indicator of the voracity of the fight for the crown which would be held for months on end and whenever it was taken by another faction it was a HUGE deal, youd make a name for yourself for those that managed to come up with the strategy to capture it)After each server, established its dominate faction, it set the stage for the golden age followed but its subsequent dark ages.
The single player experience or story has always been there. From the moment you step foot on auraxis and out of that warp gate, your story begins. Heroes rise and fall, villains will test those who must be tested.
My character - Jenkman has managed to become both during his time on auraxis, as an underdog fighting N.C. hordes, beaten and warp gated over and over again, even with genedines merge, it didn’t mitigate the shear 3-1 numbers we faced for months on end. Until we adapted, as vanu does. By the time the merge with Connery came around. We were ready, we had to do what we had to do to survive and LEARNED how to fight against those odds with a tenacity that no other faction or vs for that matter (save for millers) that could say they had, because they had the pop. Heh when Connery merge happened with Helios, I remember that glorious day. Because I made sure we won every single alert that day to prove a point. We will rise to the challenge, we will fight to the bitter end and above all else, we will do it in style baby.
jenkman still continues to lead the pubbies lost in the chaos, maxed out the mentor rank but there’s only one other N.C. mentor and no TR mentors yet. Mentor chat is useful for coordinating with the other factions on giving good fights for the new guys

My theory, the vanu alien tricked Connery and briggs into araxis, then kill of the leader started with Connery then to briggs as they torture him in his head , causing him to end his life , manipulation the TR in to preventing the war with NC rebeliance. However this caused a group of scientist to discover the vanu in directly from vanu 's artifacts on araxis, created the vanu faction. After that , they slowly cut off communication between araxis and earth, and introduce nanotechnology to all the factions , indirect or directly in case of the vanu. And then turn all of them on each other, created endless war on the planet just for there amusement.

So everyone and almost everything is made out of Nanites.
And Auraxis covered in Nanites, so it also explains why you can't fly higher because the Nanites fade out above 1000m so your Plane looses Power, since you don't need to refill Fuel.
    Heatmechanic is probably similar.
The medic probably has a Battery in his Backpack and the Engie also and the Tools are re-programing? the Nanites.
Since the Ammo-Pack is universal it refills the Ammo right into the Magazines/Batteries/Cartridges(i like to call the NC ones so, bc they probably contain Projectils and a Battery)
You probly have two of them on your Body and then reloading you interchange them.
The Cloaking are probably some kind of Particles, bc your weapon gets Cloaked also.
Maybe the Nanites Convert Solar-Energy into "Nanite-Power"?
I think all the Consciousnesses(man what a word, i had to google it) are Stored somwhere at Nanitesystems maybe in a Remote-Location.
Sorry for the Bad Grammar. english is not my first language.

Hey Cyrious, I know that this is a somewhat old video, but I've had a relevant theory for a while:
Given that the late Arena had taken place after the current events of Planetside 2 (2845), and the monotonous, poly-factional player toons in Arena, it wouldn't be out of the question to suggest that these are mercenaries for Nanite Systems. The proposal goes as follows: the factions come to some sort of peace agreement, where the Terran Republic and New Conglomerate are to cease their fighting, and as a result, the Vanu Sovereignty - who are only fighting because the war is destructive to their research and the planet of Auraxis - cease as well. Prior to this agreement, Nanite Systems, who have big money invested in the war, notice that tensions are no longer rising, and develop robotic soldiers to keep the wars fueled. After the treaty goes through, Nanite Systems decides to exterminate Auraxis, and threatens the toons on the planet to either become mercenaries for NS, or die. Those who agree become the toons in Arena, those who refuse remain on the planet as it is bombarded from orbit die. As a result, the terrain in Arena is much more barren, more flat than in Planetside 2, and numerous craters scattered about the fighting areas.
TL,DR: _Nanite Systems_ wins the war on Auraxis.

I dont know where I heard it but I thought the plan for planetside arena was that after so much war and fighting eventually the factions dissolved and broke down resulting in a sort of - Post-apocalyptic Auraxis, where small bands of mercenaries were fighting amongst themselves. That's why they were calling that games map "Echo's of Amerish". Its Amerish in post-Apocalyptia. Why there's a closing in pain field? I don't think we'll ever get described to us. Though the more i think back to it the more I think i remember the dev team releasing a video before PSA was shown to be in third person where they were talking about the map of PSA and the creation process of it. If that is the case I can see why no one "One" the war, as everyone is dedicated to their faction and having one faction "win" the war would mean all the others fighting would be for not.

  • @nasonulisse
    @nasonulisse 4 роки тому +2

As a vanu player (and TR and NC but nvd) i think a cool even if creepy af idea for the vanu would be that their "life-fixing device (it's not said how in detail you revived your life)" worked on "souls" which could be a good explanation on the scientist suicide( sort of "i had the possibility to live better(thanks to a possible user before) now i have to gift this possibility to someone else). This could grimdarkly degenerate as some of the top member of the vanu society could convince the lower member to sacrifice themself in theory to join the Vanu(Imagined as celestial beings) in practice to allow an high member to re-live many times his life without problems. So there you have it: a mechanism which is not good nor bad used by some humans in a collective way and by some others as something to keep for themself. i'm also thinking about new peculiar vehicles and artillery and how to implement them ingame. but of course one thing is to think another is to do it.

13:10 Im pretty sure it is mentioned that it was Waterson Who blew up Discovery-7 and then blamed the NC, but anyways.
That's what upsets me the most about PSA, the little lore we had is being stripper away just to say, ohhh no, everyone is a merc now. That is such bullshit, I have a folder which I have been adding a new letter, report, briefing, command decision, etc. To every single week (for the most part) since 2015, It is my very own head canon and I enjoy it a lot, and now Its all going to shit because it cant even be related to the 2 Words of lore we have about Planetside Arena as of yet. There's a short story out there about Waterson basically arranging a plot to kill Connery with that explosion and then declare martial law because there are dangerous terrorists out there. A big reason i chose NC over TR. I would link it if i wasn't typing on my phone right now. Trust Cyrious, the die-hard Terran that he is, to stick with TR tradition and leave that part of the story out ;)

I've heard that it was either the NC or TR disguised as NC who actually blew up Connery's ship, which spawned waterson's authoritarian grip, and even Connery was seeming to begrudgingly tighten security to these standards to a lesser extent in light of NC activity , either that or it's heavily suggested by the fact that during the time when the fleet was stranded behind the wormhole there were the occasional violent NC activity with them at one point even taking a bridge, and then killing twice their numbers in TR before being overun? I can't remember, honestly the lore seems very scattered and sometimes a lil bit he said she said with even the explanations to why we can't die seeming to be retconned and re-written from alien tech warpgates to vanu made later captured by NC/TR mid conflict nanite respawn tech leading to the construction of the warpgates, or maybe it's vice versa. Though I think I remember last year reading a lore post on the offical website with one of the big updates last year talking about I THINK it was briggs on auraxus discovering that second artifact, what happened, and basically overall going more in depth into the vanu and their cause, supposedly the vanu aliens were particularly advanced and powerful, but lost to fighting a greater evil and took refuge on auraxius, said greater evil put some sort of satilite or something behind the moon that kept humanity in a constant state of conflict (maybe it sent the false transmissions?) and then the Vanu aliens destroyed the satilite kickstarting the TR golden age and pissing off the greater evil in the process, so now the Vanu are either A: completely wiped out or B: at war again in a galaxy far far away, and I always wondered if maybe we'd meet one or both of these alien factions in some way.
Also if you search planetside 2 lore on youtube someone has done a playlist of videos going into greater detail and flavor,, both going into offical and unoffical, maybe it's worth checking that out if you want more lore Cyrious, it's quite nice actually.

Also interesting in planetside 2 alot of the story regarding the landing and colonizing of auraxis, looks like it can be told through the names and designs of the bases. Many tech plants for instance have large Engine like structures emitting from there leg struts suggesting these where deployed from space with large jets similarly with the bio labs.some bases like amp stations suggest that blizzards have buried parts of the bases in snow as well. Theres a biolab structure on both esamir and hossin that have been torn apart suggesting that something went wrong upon their initial landing from space and thus were abandoned. The "NC arsenal," could suggest that perhaps the nc were gearing up for war and storing many of their assets at that base before war broke out. they removed it but there was a base in Indar where if you managed to glitch through it you could actually at one point find a tr BFR mech, suggesting the tr was working in secret on mech's. "Watterson's redemption" comes to mind as well hinting that at some point Watterson may have redeemed himself to his faction in the eyes of many.

Also, when someone redeploys, they get the green "deconstruction" effect, though it's very quick. It's always been my theory that the nanites are inducing a stroke to kill the soldier instantly, so that they're reabsorbed by the warpgate network.

My head canon is that when ever you get killed or that you redeploy, you get teleported into a healing tank full of nanites that fix everything in seconds then teleport you back where you want to go.
Wich explain why there is no dead body or destroyed vehiculs around, everything just get beamed back in orbit to get fixed then redeployed and the reason why it's called "rebirth" is because it heals, cure everything to the cellular level everytime even if it ain't broken.

A story/campaign mode would be a great way to help flesh out the universe of Planetside's particularly PS2's timeline as its different from the 1st game. Not sure if they're still planning on writing on new Lore articles at the PS2 website. It just ends with NC gaining access to rebirthing tech from a VS defector, TR being stricter/efficient due to terrorists and VS being prepped for battle with Vanu's mysterious "Enemy" so far but can work if they make it PS3's premise.

People with ASC struggle with social elements, so they find it especially hard to know how to express the feeling of empathy that they get. Some people with Autism experience stronger feelings of empathy than neurotypical people, but struggle with knowing how to cope.
Some people confuse Sociopathy and Psychopathy with Autism, and as someone who has Autism myself, I find that fact concerning.

What's there is really cool, and enough to stir the imagination, but there are some cardinal sins in overly vague ('for reasons unknown' used way too much) writing committed here. They are also missing an opportunity to both tie things together and define it as a competition platform like they want it to be. PS1 & PS2 obviously tie together but PS-A looks like an outlier on the face of it. However if you view the PS-A as a fork from PS2 rather than a sequel it can make a whole lot more sense.
Long term PS1 players remember the changes to the conflict over the years, some good some bad. PS2 continued from there with a couple of back steps but some upgrades as well. Now PS-A does not fit as a sequel to PS2, but it will make sense as a fork. The fork being that Nanite Sytems has taken over governance of all three factions. After all he who controls the high orbitals controls the world. PSA has eliminated the faction spefic equipment focus and with it the factions themselves. The fork being invoked by the introduction of the NS Operatives into PS2. Now they fork with NS-O being the tie that binds.
From a conpetition perspective it tiers out with PS1 being the basic competition, PS2 being the upgraded sytems in place for further improvement both in the equipment and in the respawning systems. PSA becomes the straight combat only fork where everyone lives in the common pool just like NSO, with faction items being nostalgic side grades rather than being a focus any longer.
I agree with you that rebirthing is not the right term for how you return to the fight. I think of it as reimprinting instead. Your personality is imprinted on a freshly generated Nanite matrix and you pick up from there. When you are taken down in a fight salvagable still functioning nanites are interrogated for necessary updates during the respawn process.
Leaving us with branch 1 PS1>PS2 focusing on system development and improvement. Branch 2 focuses on Nanite avatar training/testing/improving.

7:41 listening to this after the news that we MAY have found signs of life on Venus hits different.
To clarify for those interested: I say MAY because we found a molecule that as far as we know can only be produced by living organisms, however it's not completely irrefutable evidence because we don't know if there are ways to make that molecule inorganically, as chemistry is a vast and extremely complex science, and it still may be possible that an inorganic (i.e without involving living organisms) reaction can generate that molecule but the conditions for it are not present here on Earth, we just don't know yet. It is however not impossible for life to exist on Venus: it is theorized it had water and life in the past before becoming the hottest planet in the solar system (even hotter than Mercury) and it is very acidic which is not an environment life tends to like it is suitable for a certain kind of bacteria, also while the heat on the surface is enough to melt lead (therefore meaning even the most resilient bacteria we know would probably die in such environment) it is possible that bacterias could live 5km above the surface, as it has been observed that bacterias can live on clouds here on Earth.

Worth noting: Briggs comes back to life in an ancient Vanu rebirthing pod. Then, disguising himself as a researcher, he finds a third Vanu artifact, which tells him about an Enemy that had enslaved Vanu and caused all conflict on Earth. The device he had used to do this was destroyed by Vanu in a suicide attack that essentially was the first rift. Since then, humanity had lasting peace, and the Vanu in death were free of the Enemy. But now that humanity is on the Vanu's former homworld, the Enemy notices them and makes them violent again, hence the never ending war. Now it approaches to destroy Auraxis and the humans on it.
With this revelation from the artifact and Vanu comes a massive explosion that forms a crater in Hossin (I don't know where this might be ingame) and Briggs, unscathed, gets psychic/psionic powers like a true Starcraft character. The lore isn't clear on when this is, although this rebirthing pod was the first of its kind.
After the VS discovered the rebirthing pods and started trying to make their own, a VS defector took the technology to the NC and helped them make one work first. As it was nearing completion, VS assassins took the defector and a number of NC leaders out, but all the most important individuals we're already set to come back in the prototype rebirthing pods, so the VS defector was the only casualty. Then the VS finished its pods and TR spies acquired their faction some pods.

I read some of the PS2 lore and they really should go more that route, WoW is running it's course and this is the only mmorpgfps out there, I really don't understand how this game doesn't take off on Twitch, there's nothing like it and there never has, and there never might be sadly.. Some fun facts, I think the Artifact is in a base on Amerish somewhere, I forget which one
