What a great trip you and Josh went on! You must never apologize for purchasing the materials you need to create. Creating makes many of us very happy and happy people are healthy for the planet. I do my best to never shop at big box craft stores; that's just me. No judgement. Can't wait to see your makes.
Thank you for sharing your haul! Your purchases are gorgeous, and I can't wait to see what you make. Or if you're anything like me, just stare at it in disbelieve it's yours :)
I love walking through fabric stores in other countries, the fabrics and notions are so special. If you're ever in Baltimore I suggest to everyone to go through A Fabric Place for a hit of lovely high quality fabrics sold by a small family business.
Did you ask the Jeff Goldbloom sales assistant about the fibre content? Thanks for taking us with you. There used to be places almost as cool as that everywhere and I love it that they still exist So beautiful.
I really enjoyed this video, interesting and inspiring and very well thought out. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. Also, booking tickets to Spain! 😂❤
really enjoyed hearing about the fantastic local shops!! if i go to spain i'll have to check these out!!! Also i love that you looked for things that you could not get at home, thats so important to me
The vestment shops are largely because of the celebrations during Semana Santa. It’s a very important holiday in Seville even for many folks who aren’t particularly religious. It involves a lot of specific clothing for those participating. Each hermandad (religious brotherhood) has specific colors, symbols etc. I believe many shops are catered to specific hermandades found in their neighborhood.
Yes! I love the idea of buying craft supplies on your travels. I went to Italy last year and bought some beautiful floral linen with the hopes of extending my trip and taking time to reflect on my travels as I created something with the beautiful fabric. I still haven't made my dress yet, but hopefully I will soon. Thanks Steph.
@@StephSewn I have my heart set on the Chloe dress from Sew Love patterns. I've done one toile, but it didn't fit, so I'll have to figure out how to do a FBA and try again. I'm not going to cut into my fabric until I figure out how to get a great fit!
Wow, that's quite the selection. Congrats. You're making me want to travel to Seville and Madrid. I know you said you would like to make a jacket out of the embroidered cotton but I recommend a beautiful half circle skirt of whatever length appeals to you. That style is supposed to be hot during the fall season. The fabric is stunning and depending upon the application could be worn across season.
Oooo this is a very interesting suggestion! I will have to figure out if doable with my fabric dimensions, but I can see that skirt being really stunning.
Oh, I'm so excited to see you had a great time and brought back some really beautiful souvenirs for sewing. I'll be leaving for Greece in a little over a week and I've already done my recon on fabric shops, that could be added as stops along our way exploring the city.
hi Steph, glad to see you back. i enjoy your video and looking at fabric!! now i will know look where to look if i go to Spain. such gorgeous fabrics you brought!! i especially like the first one (silk one?) the blue and white one with the figures.
Echoing what folks said about Seville, Holy Week, and the religious brotherhoods/fraternities. It is all more true than you can imagine. Holy Week in Seville is, striking, somber, and spooky. We visited in 2009, and will never forget the sense of an entire population moving as one that, as a unitedstatesian, I've only seen in sportsball contexts. Also, very odd seeing waves of e "Nazarenos" in their pointed hoods, which apparently have no sinister meaning, but still...
Thanks for sharing your travels with us! I so agree with your point about supporting local businesses. Also, these types of travel purchases are my favorite sort of souvenirs- remembering the trip while making and wearing the garment later! A question, if I may- how much of a single fabric do you buy when shopping like this? I’m always a bit nervous about not buying enough (if I don’t already have a project in mind). It might be that I’m just too new a sewist to know my approx fabric requirements for a typical trouser or shirt pattern. But if you have some rules of thumb, I’d be happy to hear! Thank you! ❤
I know many places in Spain, and I also lived in Madrid. Just love Julian Lopez. I want to ask you if you could tell me where you stayed in Sevilla, because I have never been there, and I am planning to go like in a week.
I don't know why so many vestments shops in Seville, but it reminded me of Articles of Interest podcast- the last 3 episodes were about Nudity/Modesty/Clergy. I'm not Catholic/religious but learning about the garments in the last episode was very interesting!
Recommending this podcast as well, although I didnt like the nudity episode so much… Episodes I really liked where the ones about shoes (!) and the one about dyeing fabrics, which was really interesting 😊
Would I wear those mittens?? I would wear them ALL THE TIME!! They’re gorgeous. Love, Mom

Thank You for supporting these places!!! USA 🇺🇸 was so crazy to close 95% of their fabric shops 😢
I’ll make sure to watch your video again if I ever go to Spain ! I love how you support local shops and how you talk about your experience !
Always my favourite thing to do!
So jealous of the bobbin lace supplies. I always make a point of visiting a local yarn/fabric/craft store when I travel.
Great video. I agree with you so much about supporting local small businesses while travelling (and at home).
Gotta use them or lose them 🥴

Your videos are always amazing 😻 😊❤
Does Josh have a hobby he enjoys? Your sewing and knitting is really incredible ❤❤ ❤
Wow that velour is so pretty! I think a sweater dress or maybe a twist front dress would work in it? Or a really luxurious loungewear set!
Ooo love the idea of a twist front. Loungewear would be amazing too, but I want people other than Josh to see it 😂
Such gorgeous fabrics ❤
Love these type of videos. Will definitely be going back if i visit any of these places in the future! Love your choice of fabric! Lovely souvenirs 💕
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it 💕

Yess glad we're on the same page! More fun to focus on stuff that is unique (and also prevents me from spending too much lol)
Pontejos is intimidating for natives too!
By the way, you said 'mercería' flawlessly, you shouldn't be worrying!
Beautiful trip ❤
Great trip, can't wait for the round up!
Absolutely love the pieces you purchased.
Me too! Will have to force myself to actually cut into them.
some beautiful fabrics and yarns! I try to keep my souvenir shopping to fabric stores these days.

The haberdasheries look amazing. Especially with the button carousel. I love going to fabric and haberdashery stores on holiday ❤

Pale Apricot color maybe 🤔
Spain is great for laces bc of flamenco clothing.
