- Had some people ask for an update video on my Midea AC that was drilled... Still looks super clean & still running fine (How about yours???) Can't believe how much hate I got from my 1st "How to vid" @_@ drilling my Midea U-Shape Fan • How to Drill a drainag... You have 2 ways to go about it. To drill or not to drill. If you don't drill, you got to add a wick, chemicals, look out for dead bugs & the funk... Funk that!!! Drill :P hm²

my ac was leaking water out of the front into the house did exactly what you did and it fixed it immediately appreciate you brotha
From your video you see the water running toward the right (other ) side from where you drilled the hole - what about drilling another one on that side?
thanks! what about cleaning the bioslime on the blower wheel?
Thank you for the video on this. Our Midea U-Shaped AC is being taken out as I type. It stopped blowing air so I looked in the front with a flashlight and it's filled with MOLD. This can't be fixed so it's going to the dump. We happen to have another that my husband planned to put in the 3rd bedroom so he's going to use it in our room. He WILL drill a hole as you demonstrated in another video I found. BTW, we live VERY to the Texas Gulf Coast (think DEEP south Texas, farthest tip of Texas.....so we are extremely humid here year round. Again....thank you.
have you noticed any reduction in efficiency after drilling it? The water build up is supposed to help w/ the fan cooling efficiency and performance so w/o a bit of water splashing its apparently supposed to need to use more power to cool your place down.
Just cram a dish towel in the back and it will wick out..
I'd been debating what to do with mine. I didn't have time to take it out before winter set in, but checking on it before summer hit it didn't really have any debris in the housing that would keep it from functioning so i wasn't yoo worried. But this year it hasn't been running as well, the cooled air was muggy at times, it wasn't draining out the back when it seemed it should be, aaaand ended up draining into my window well and into the walls.
The angle is still fine, it's still not dirty enough to explain that, and I'm not interested in letting that happen again.
If anyone's worried about drilling through too far and you don't trust your skill or it's too awkward a location to do your best, get a drill bit stop collar. They aren't much and way less expensive than a new AC.
I also drilled a hole same corner now no more water coming thru the vents
I had some condensation pooling inside at the bottom of the coil. Which seems to be normal from what I read in the FB group. Did your hole mod and it be dripping good. Thinking about doing the other side since it looks like there is a drain channel on that side as well.
Has your fan blades molded like others?
there is a blue plug you know, that all you need to do is pull it and it drains just fine, i just did mone.....no drilling...
Thanks. Where is the drainage hole, dumb question since is would probably be on the bottom of the unit? My unit is leaking quite a bit but I wanted to ask before I moved it. Thanks again.
only the newest models have the drain hole included
Thank you for your sharing .. I just wanted to share with others what I found out today... window AC does not bring in fresh air from the outside .. it recycles the air in the room even when you switch it to fan mode. I did not know that. I have been working in my very small work shop and I smoke cigarettes in there but have noticed that the smell of smoke sticks to my clothes and the shop always smelled funny. Anyways .. just wanted to share this for those who think they're getting fresh air .. I took mine out and installed a window fan ... oh man ... much better .. cant compare the two.
Have you thought about drilling the other corner?
This short happened to be right under this video and I thought I’d share it since you were nice enough to share what you thought was helpful. Idk why it would need the additional cooling using water on the condenser since no other type of ac unit that I know of does so. But removing the heat is the name of the game and the water would help do so. Sure does get nasty in there too though. Maybe there’s some sort of non-corrosive mold solution out there somewhere? ua-cam.com/users/shortsAa0xko3TS3c?feature=share
BEWARE. I ruined a $400 unit by following the instructions. If you do drill a hole, take the time to make sure it is nowhere near a coil. When a small drill punctures through the metal, it will quickly dive deep into the innards of the unit, and the coil is underneath. Don't take a chance. Disassemble the unit to make sure you don't hit the coil, or ensure the drill bit only penetrates a small amount.
Or use a drill stop or a cone Shaped step bit drill , they dont plunge in.
