Today we helped a Boston couple cool off their home gym with the Installation of a Brand New 2024 12,000 BTU Midea U-Shaped Inverter, Split Window, Air Conditioner. This one is special as it has M-Shield which is Midea's new built in Ionizer Technology. There is no central HVAC system in this old house, so a window unit is their only option.
See why Midea has quickly become the number 1 selling brand in the USA. By separating the condenser coil, compressor and fan motors from the interior evaporator coil and fan motor, Midea has created a quiet and efficient window A/C.

Easily the most helpful video and explanation without all of the corny commentary and nonsense I’ve seen in other videos. Straightforward, calm and just plain helpful. Thank you. You saved my life. Also, millennial here- didn’t have a level to use on a refinishing project I was doing and ‘eyeballed’ it. Hats off to boomers that are tech savvy and showed me there’s an app for that 😂 thanks again! Cheers
LoL! Thanks for the awesome review and support.
BTW We're Gen X and Old school Tech Savy, but may sometimes be confused for Boomers because we look and sound the same. ;-)
Just installed a Midea unit yesterday. Great video. Great unit, very easy to install..
Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I appreciate you watching the video and finding it helpful.
Badass video. Many thanks
Thanks so much for the great comment
I got one of these for my 364ish sq ft apt. I love it.
Thanks for your support
@@elitehandyman911 thank you for YOUR support!
Thanks Elite, I’m installing one of these tomorrow. Now I look forward in confidence to a seamless installation. Blessings Friend. ☝️☦️👍
Great to hear. Thank you for the positive words and let us know how you like it.
My 12K I ordered over a week ago finely arrives tomorrow. Replacing a very noisy standard type ac. I am most looking forward to the reduced noise this unit claims to have. Thanks for this guide, it will make for an easy install. 👍
Glad to have been able to help.
Just ordered one of these tonight for the upstairs large bedroom in a house built in 1926. Old wooden single pane with storm windows. Hoping the install isn't prohibitive like other old window AC's in the past. This one looks pretty well designed.
I install these in pre 1930's houses all the time. The mount design is the best I've ever seen.
Thank you for the video. I’ve been having lots of trouble with this window AC with it letting in lots of bugs.
Hope it helped. I’m guessing plugging the gaps underneath and on the rail did the trick?
Amazing video. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for your support
How difficult is it to remove these units every fall? And is that necessary? Thanks for the great video.
I like to remove them for multiple reasons, but it's not required.
It's very easy to remove and reinstall on the same window once the initial setup is done.
works great. BUT,
if you ledge sits too far out plus is deeper than the drop of the pair of outside braces, then maybe reconsider purchase,
OR plan a way to have the outside to sit on such a big ledge, MAYBE bricks, or something, BUT you must make sure that you set that up so your outside of Medea inclines the recommended.
READ the manual. Great cooling power. Decent features.
Home Depot app or Manufacturer has the installation instructions,
READ BEFORE YOU BUY.
Definitely cools nicely. Definitely quiet compared to most others because the heavy duty motor is outside.
Thank you for the support.
Just installed one of these yesterday so far so food. Blows super cold air. But for the life of me can't find the drain hole.
No drain hole for now.
The condensation flows from inside to outside via gravity, then once outside, sits in the pan and gets splashed up onto the condenser coil. That's by design. This makes it more efficient than other window A/C units. There is a rubber plug on the bottom of the pan of some models, but only use this to empty the pan before storing for the winter then put it back in.
So there has to be a drain hole somewhere or it would overflow.
How far does this stick out from the window in the interior side of the room?
It may differe slightly depending on your window and sill design, but right about 8 inches.
I just got one of these, but foolishly realized that since I have a double window, I have no way of screwing the bracket to both sides of the window frame. I am hoping there is a way to solve this problem.
You can offset the bracket and a/c to one side securing as normal. For the other side use the longest leg and screw it vertically into the sill. This is why there are holes in the bottom of the legs too. You will be missing the internal window lock bar, but the screws will keep it safe. For the insulation you can get hard insulation at any home store or get midea replacement here * - amzn.to/4bBkZ40 and glue two together together. We use just a few dabs of super glue.
If you're in Greater Boston let us know and we'll be happy to help.
@@elitehandyman911 Oh. yeah....I see the holes in the bottom of the bracket....Duh me. :D But can you explain why you have to offset the unit?
I wish I WAS in Boston....thanks!
Would this fit in a window smaller than 22"? My biggest window is about 19.75" wide and see the actual unit is about 19". Possible to set this up in that size window if we make our own shelf/mounting hardware to support the unit?
For width you could definitely make it work. Even the bracket could be easily modified.
You would have to remove the insulation brackets and do some custom insulation work.
The height requirement is a hard 13 inches though to be able to get through the window.
Please let us know if you go for it. And if you're in the Boston area we're able to help with the installation.
7:32 would sawtooth work better on dense foam?
11:15 Looking at your install, you make it look so easy. And such a neat install.
Thank so much for the kind words. I was thinking a breadknife would work well too. Wait... Let me try...BRB...
Is this what you meant by saw tooth?

This same Unit is being shipped to me Today! Do you have any tips/tricks to help push air out of the door to help cool the back part of my home? This was a Great Tutorial, hope mine goes as smooth ?!! Thank You
Hey, I am currently installing this however I do not have enough space for the drill-holed screws on the sides of my window. Alongside that, in the middle of my window it is plastic so can I just drill through that aswell?
I wish you could attach photos. The plastic may slide up? Also you can drill and screw vertically down through the mount arms if the sides don’t work for you.
@@elitehandyman911 Thank you for responding! unfortunately, there is nothing under the mount arms as it is hanging from my window. Will update you on the install, but if the screws are not in place per the manual, do you think that this would still hold the A/C correctly?
Can tou install these using plexiglass in between the space if your window opens from the side?
These aren't designed for sliding windows, but you might be able to fabricate something. I've never tried myself.
Yes with a little planning you can install it in a sliders. I sealed mine with some painted plywood
Just purchased one started install but it looks strange to me from the outside as far as how the unit fits in the bracket ( it does not come to the end. In other words the bracket extends about 6” beyond the actual unit. Neither the manual
Nor any install video I’ve watched thus far shows an image from the outside. I’d like to know what the installed unit is supposed to
Look like from the outside.
Yes, That is normal.
The bracket arms extend farther than the A/C to allow for the legs to adjust for different wall thicknesses.
hello, i have the same midea but mine after a few months stopped working. like the fan mode works right but when i change the mode to cool it starts to start the motor then boom the motor stops and it shows error code "EC 07" please help!
Call MIdea for troubleshooting. They may send you a new unit as they have a warranty.
Meaning the electronic control has detected the unit is reading one of the temperatures incorrectly. EC 07 error message is not considered a user repairable error. The good news is that most units can tolerate an EC 07 error and still continue to cool.
I had one and it died within a year, not a good investment. My LG still rock and roll after 8 years.
Sorry you got a bad one. LG does make a great product.
Can it be installed sideway for a horizontal sliding window?
It is not designed for that.
I would suggest looking at these: amzn.to/3VTbRll

Thank you, but it doesn't have the uniqueness of the minimum window opening.
