I PROBABLY could have figured it out myself, but it made me feel so much better actually seeing someone do it, so I didn't feel like I'd be breaking something! Thanks!
Ty so much hun! I was able to do it in 1 minute, when EVERYONE told me it was impossible unless you had a special key, that only the dealer has! You ROCK, ty ty ty
First time owning a push button start vehicle with remote fob. I thought I'd have to go to dealership. Googled how to change battery and went directly to your video. I own a 2013 Sonata and have the exact fob in video. I used a wide flat head screwdriver and had no issues opening fob. Thank you for the video, much appreciated!
Thank you for making this. I live in the boonies and would have felt really dumb if I had driven an hour and a half into town to go to the dealership. You saved me time, hassle and embarrassment.
I always thought key fobs were much more complicated. This is so easy! Thanks for the video. More importantly, thanks for specifying the exact type of battery you need!
Wow! This helped me a lot! I had the battery replaced at the shop, but the guy that sold it installed the battery upside down. I have called the dealer with questions and they told me to tow the car over to re-program the remote. It cost +/- $150. I decided to youtube it and on this video shows the way the battery should be. I opened the remote fixed the battery and worked!! Thank you so much guys !!
I'm glad I've been able to help so many people with this video. If you would like to say thanks you can help me a lot by using my Amazon affiliate link in the description of the video if you need to purchase the battery for the remote. You can also use the link to do any shopping on Amazon's site and I will get a small amount of money from the purchase, it doesn't cost you anything. I also have an affiliate link to bluehost webhosting in the description, a great place to go if you are looking for a place to host your website. I don't want you to feel obligated, I really am glad that this video has helped so many people, thanks.
Bought my 2012 Veloster second hand and no one showed me the key inside the fob! (My last car was 22 years old and only had a key, no fob) This was a great, straight forward video that I could follow and understand easily. Thanks!
Just had to replace the battery on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. This method worked like a dream - I used a small pair of scissors and it worked fine. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for your clear, concise video! It worked like a charm. I feel so empowered! I fixed it myself and didn't have to drive for an hour back to the dealership to pay to have it done. ;-)
Thanks for video, confirms it's straightforward. Your screw driver tip could do with a polish/derust. Also, don't touch both sides of the battery at the same time, moist hands discharge it a bit.
Thank you so much I thought I was going to have to try and get to a dealer cause the remote was not responding BUT IT IS JUST THE BATTERY!!! WHOO HOO!!
+mario parrotta Thanks for the kind words about my video. If you need to start your car and the smart key isn't being detected, you can open your center console, their should be a slot on the passenger side at the front where you can insert the key fob. Once inserted you should be able to start your car, hope that helps.
Make sure you pay attention to the battery orientation before removing it! Some manuals show the battery "+" side up when the battery is actually installed "+" down (2014 Elantra GT), as is shown in the video above. (good video, btw)
When I opened mine, a spring and two other pieces came out. This is the mechanism that releases the manual key. Still trying to get it back together....
This video is great. However, my 2012 Sonata has a different key fob. And it has 2 batteries of a different number. Mine are 2016. The batteries fell out when I popped the fob open so now I don't know how they go back in. Can you help with this?
Great. I tried to put the battery in + side up. Oddly, would still start the car when the key fob was pressed directly to the start button, but nothing else worked. Thanks!
One important issue to be cautios of. The side of the fob w/the circuit board has the silver button (the one that releases the key) and white plastic stopper on it's top corner. That button assembly has a spring between the silver button and the plastic stopper that holds it in place. When my fob separated the plastic stopper didn't hold in place and the stopper and interior spring fell out. Luckily I felt the parts hit my foot as they went to the floor so I went looking for them and was able to put the button assembly back into place when I reassambled the fob. Just be careful as you open the fob in case your button assembly is loose.
took mine apart, battery tested fine, bent contacts ever so slightly, whalla, fob worked again. so it was not the battery that made the fob not work it was the little pieces of metal not making good contact.
I have had a 2002 Subaru Outback since November 2001. I have had to replace that battery once. I have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, purchased in November of that year. I got a "low key battery" message yesterday. Wow.
These new key fobs work very differently than the older ones. The new key fobs are part of the key less entry system and for this reason the key fobs constantly sends a signal in case the car is nearby. For this reason, the battery inside the fob drains much much faster than the older key fobs such as the one you are talking about.
I have a 2015 sonata. When I took apart the remote, one side had the key contacts and one side had the circuit board. Did they change something or did I not do it right? Edit: There's an extra step. You now have to remove the circuit board to get to the battey.
Nice video. Funny, I was even randomly using the exact same Thorsen screwdriver. I already had a 10 pack of Sony batteries from Amazon ($4.24), so it only cost me 42 cents per fob. Cheers!
Hello there I liked you video and thank you , have a question for you Im facing the issue that when I get off the car after I lock the car (elantra2013 gt) theres a message by the odometer saying key is not in the car I press the remote con trol key from out side but the message still is there do you have any idea what it would be the problem?
aldo arriola This is late, but I have the same issue. When I changed the key battery, the message stopped popping up. I think when the battery starts to die, it just randomly works until it’s finally out of power
Mairee Xcent car kee smart key battery Down ho gaee battery change kr k new laga diya , , still screen pay car aur in between car shadow a black shadow of key aa rahee ha, kya koee batayega kee smart key low ka symbol kya hs
Yay! This was so easy. I thought I had to go to the dealership to get a new remote. Thank you google and thank you for posting this video!
I PROBABLY could have figured it out myself, but it made me feel so much better actually seeing someone do it, so I didn't feel like I'd be breaking something! Thanks!

Thank you! I seriously thought I had to buy a whole new key fob had no idea it’d be this cheap.

+OneHandOnTheKeyboard You're welcome, glad I could help.
Thank you so much for this! It really worked! I can't be believe the dealership wanted to charge me $75 to do this. Literally a 30 second job!
You're welcome
Thanks for your video my wife was stranded and was able to get the key fob open with your video and replace the battery.
+sgstyle65 You're welcome.

Lesson learned Liliana, NEVER GO TO DEALERSHIP unless it's for warranty work. Always go to an independent garage.
Much appreciated better than the Manufacturers video plain and straight to the point.
Thank you. Saved me a trip to the dealer today. Much appreciated.
+KATHY T. Glad I could help

Great vid, thank you!
great instructions -- thanks! never expected it to be this easy!!!!
+fergie4411 You're welcome.
Thank you very much. You just now saved me $60+ at the service centre.
Great! So clear and well-paced. Thanks for what seemed might be a complicated solution.
Screw Driver is Not Required. They designed it so the key fits the slot to twist and open casing.
kimba007
Yeah, mine doesn't
I tried the key technique, I found the screwdriver much more efficient
the screwdriver was tearing up that little space where he puts the screwdriver so i tried the key and it worked! thank you!
The valet key does not fit well but a regular house key does.
Saved us a lot of time and energy. Thank you.
You're welcome

Thanks! Saved hundreds going to the dealership for 2 fobs.

Thanks man! This was very helpful. It was driving me nuts to get this key fob opened.
You're welcome
Thanks so much! I was wondering why the keyfob hadn’t been working and this fixed it! Appreciate it!☺️
Thank you for this. Never take it to the dealer because they charge $20 for the same service. Much appreciated.
Just changed the batteries for a 2013 Santa Fe Sport, excellent video, was the easier thing to change, thank you so much
Thank you so much for your clear, concise video! It worked like a charm. I feel so empowered! I fixed it myself and didn't have to drive for an hour back to the dealership to pay to have it done. ;-)
Thanks - was having difficulty prying open the FOB. The video showed me how successfully.
+Brian Litvin You're welcome
Thanks so much, took me less than a minute and works great!

Thank you, quick and easy. Found the battery brand new at the Dollar Tree store ... LoL $1 for the battery can't beat that !

Thank you so much I thought I was going to have to try and get to a dealer cause the remote was not responding BUT IT IS JUST THE BATTERY!!! WHOO HOO!!
vernicesa stevenson how did that work out for you?
Thanks so much!!! I was able to change my battery very easily!! You gave straightforward instructions.
+Cheria Hay You're welcome.
Thanks for the video it was very helpful. Do you know were I can start the car with the metal key. I should probably know this but I don't.
+mario parrotta Thanks for the kind words about my video. You saved me from going to the dealership - MUCH APPRECIATED
Thank you for this! Your instructions worked perfectly. Never knew there was a real key in there, either! :D

Yep - this got me, was scratching my head!
Yes. This DIY will be helpful in saving money during this pandemic.
Dude I love you! A true life saver, I was almost late for work. Thank you
You are the man .. but you could have made this video in like 1 min and been done ...
But thanks for the info, you saved me a trip to hyundai
When I opened mine, a spring and two other pieces came out. This is the mechanism that releases the manual key. Still trying to get it back together....
Did you ever get the spring and other pieces back together? Same thing just happened to me.
@@dont88 yes, took a little bit to figure out where the pieces fit, might need a third hand (helper)
I needed this help NOW and it was great information. THANKS
Very helpful video. I have replaced the battery before and could not remember the exact procedure.
There was a spring in there that flew out - NONE of these videos show where that came from and where i'm supposed to put it back. Anyone know?
Thanks legend! Appreciate the video!
You're welcome
Worked great! Easy peasy! Thanks!
Thank you sooo...much!! You are a life saver!! Thought I had to pay a shop to do this for me! 🤗
+Magnetic One You're welcome.

+Cindy Reeves They should both have the plus side up.
Thanks for the tutorial. Twisting the screwdriver to open is really key... at least it was for me.
Thanks for the instructions!
Thank you for making this video.
Great. I tried to put the battery in + side up. Oddly, would still start the car when the key fob was pressed directly to the start button, but nothing else worked. Thanks!
You made it look easy thank you
This worked perfectly, thank you.

Just a friendly note- it's voila! not whalla! FYI

You can also use a cr2025 battery same 3v just a little less capacity
Perfect instructions. Thank you!
You're welcome
good stuff thank you! BTW the key works perfectly to pop the sides open.
But will it work with the 2020 Sonata?
Does it matter if the battery is lithium or alkaline?
Will this work on elantras?
Most likely

I have a 2015 Sonata and this instruction doesn't work for it. No slot for screw driver, tp end doesn't look the same. What should I do.
thanks, you are a life saver.
You don’t need a screwdriver. The valet key works great!
Perfect and easy to follow guide. Thank you.
Thanks, great instructions.
It’s $5 for one in Los Angeles, bleh ! Thanks for the video, very helpful !
