Hi Hana question for q.a. did you and your husband discuss him converting to Catholicism? My parents did not have the same religious beliefs when they met and they went with my mother's religion for my sister and I.
Hello. I am curious about the following 1.) that is the difference between Orthodox Jews and other Jews 2.) I have hear of the two kitchens but what does that mean? Do you actually have two kitchens? 3.) Do you have your kids socialize with non Jewish kids?
I was diagnosed with Celiac at 23 years old. I’m so pleased your son was diagnosed early. You are saving him from years of discomfort- pain- broken bones.
I love how inclusive you are, very warm and inspiring. Although I'm a Christian I love hearing about your faith because you don't seem to judge or preach, very cool xoxo
I agree with you . When my children were young I never shared information or pictures with anyone except my family and close friends.its a good moms protective love. Thank you for sharing, it's so nice to learn.
@@jaroffireflies I’m in the early stages of conversion myself, so I’m loving watching videos about life as a Jewish person. There’s not a lot out there!! So I was thrilled to find yours 🙂
Wow, it’s so admirable that you keep your family so private but also have such a great family vlog. I hear a lot about these family vlog channels that have had problems with their children who have become much too exposed due to their parents putting them in every video from a very young age. You’re awesome!
Thank you! Yes, totally! I also don’t want to exploit my children or put them in any danger. They are obviously a huge part of my life, so I couldn’t omit them completely, and I think I’ve found the right balance that works for us. It’s so great to have outsider feedback though because I’m obviously biased ❤️😂
Hi Chana! I love your channel! It is so nice to see other orthodox jews on youtube. I started my youtube channel in February! As I was becoming religious, i didn't see myself represented on youtube and knew that I wanted to change that. So glad that there is a growing community, and kol hakavod for making such a big kiddush hashem through this channel.
Thank you so much for your kind words! There is a handful of us orthodox Jewish youtubers and BH growing all the time!!! Best of luck on your UA-cam adventures!
I came across your page last week when I was on the hunt for some Shabbat prep inspiration and have since binge watched half your channel. You have cracked my brain in the very best way. I…. Hmmmm… don’t really have words apparently. I discovered that the Torah existed a few years ago (raised Pentecostal) and have been on a deep dive into the Hebrew roots of Christianity ever since. The deeper I go, the more at home I am. And the more questions I have. And the more bamboozeled I feel: like HOW is it possible to translate things sooooooo….. (takes a deep breath and let’s go of that tangent for now). We started keeping the Sabbath a little over a year ago (still learning) and it has been life changing. This is our first year doing the Torah Parsha and it feels revolutionary. We have been so blessed by this journey so far, I am so excited to see where it leads us! I am so inspired by your journey… to hear how your question led you home. Thank you for sharing! I wish we could sit and visit over tea talk for hours!
@@jaroffireflies I have no idea. I didn’t even know that was a thing until I watched your conversion story. At this point we’re taking it one step at a time seeing where God leads us.
These are excellent questions! As I have mentioned before, I was raised Jewish in a small town in North Carolina, and there is much about my own religion that I would like to learn. So thank you, dear Chana, for teaching us with your sunny, generous, and indomitable spirit! I would LOVE to see a video with you & your precious husband. But even if you do not create such a video, your viewers can see what a lovely husband and father he is! ❤️❤️😊🌹
Love your cross stitch project. Some of my friends do Carolyn Manning designs which have a lot of geometric shapes etc. I just finished up some cross stitch Christmas ornaments for my grands so that is off my plate. I like being prepared for Christmas weeks in advance so I can enjoy the holidays. Loved hearing all your answers to questions. Whew....diabetes one, celiac and a two week old. My nurses heart goes out to you. You have managed beautifully. I agree that everyone eating gluten free is the best answer. And a blessing of the children being small is that they have adapted painlessly. Like several others I would be interested in your conversion story and how you met your husband. I love a good love story.:) Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you so much for your kind words!!!! I will check out this Carolyn Manning Designs :) Thanks for the tip! And thanks for the questions! I’ll definitely answer the how we met, but the conversion story needs to be its own video (it’s long lol). It’ll come too!!!!!

Thank you! The conversion story needs to be its own video because too long to lump into everything else (I truly don’t know how to do a nutshell version of that story lol), and I will do that video eventually! It’s just hard to find the time to sit down and focus on it 🤷🏼♀️

Another great video. I’m truly loving learning about you and your family and your way of living. I’m always interested in what other people’s world view and way of life is like. Comes from being an avid reader I think. Your videos are so homey, chatty, and informative. I feel a kinship with you, because my mother, God rest her soul, was a phenomenal seamstress. In our growing up years, we had little, and she made all of our clothes. Of course when you’re young you don’t appreciate it. She taught sewing for many years, then , with all things, I think she got a little burned out and stopped for awhile. In her later years, she took up quilting, and she was a phenomenal quilter. Praise God, I received the last quilt she made, and I treasure it so so much. My sister is also a wonderful seamstress and quilter, as is my niece. I did NOT inherit that gene. My mother, the sewing teacher sent me to Singer for sewing lessons, and it was still hopeless, lol. HOWEVER, God gives us each our own special talents, doesn’t He? To me he gave the talent of fine needlework. Needlepoint, embroidery, and my main love, cross-stitch, are mine and mine alone in our family. Your pattern of the Spanish Tiles reminded me of a piece I did for my mom for her quilting room, which consisted of many of the popular quilt patches across history. She loved it. When she passed, I was in a quandary because there were so many pieces I’d made her over the years, and no way that myself, nor my family could keep them all, so I made the decision to gift it to a special lady from my church, whose great grandmother started the quilting circle at out church, almost 100 years ago. Her mother, and now she and her daughter have carried on the tradition in out church. Every quilt made is hand pieced, hand sewn, and hand quilted by the church ladies, who meet weekly. Sometimes I stop in (all are welcome), and will sit and stitch with them awhile. She loves the piece. Sadly, I have a medical condition now, called neuropathy, which has caused my hands and feet to lose feeling, which makes it very hard to hold or thread a needle. I cant do any of the big, beautiful pieces any longer, but have contented myself with small, easy ones. I also discovered that using vinyl weave as a medium allows me to use a bigger needle, which is easier to hold. I use a needle threader, and now I design and create bookmarks made on vinyl weave. They’re very durable, and it makes my heart happy to once again have a creative outlet. Writing is my other creative outlet. I’d love to write a book one day about my 43 year nursing career one day. No shortage of stories and experiences there. Keep blessing us with glimpses of your life and talents. I love learning from you. How did you choose to call your Vlog Jar of Fireflies? I’m sure there’s a story there! All the best! ❤️

I’m so happy to hear I’m not the only one whose guilty pleasure is playing Diner Dash! It’s my absolute favorite game. Do you have any other time management games you like? It’s so hard to find well made games!
The Indian in the Cupboard is an excellent book I’d highly recommend. Babe is great too! My great grandfather emigrated to the U S with his mother from Morocco. His name was Louis Mimran.
Questions! 1. If I remember, you said you converted twice? Can you talk about that? 2. Without saying your names, did you give your kids Jewish names? 3. How many languages do you speak?
Great video!!! Would love one on the different headcover styles...I have trouble keeping them on cause my hair is so long. The others asked some great questions...but could you do more on the conversion...we are just starting out.
Velvet headbands and volumizers are absolutely GAME CHANGERS when you’re wrapping your head with scarves! I wear them regularly, and get mine from wrapunzel and they’re good quality but higher quality is from another store called The Little Tichel Lady.
Hi chana, my question is do your parents and siblings participate in the Jewish religion? How did you meet your husband? We’re you born in Texas? I live in Texas too! Love your energy!
I am new to this account and it’s awesome. I love that you don’t share your kids names and they are not the center of my videos. I am looks forward to more videos
As someone who is going through the process of converting to Judaism, firstly, any recommendations on study texts or anything that helped you get through conversion? Also would a video explaining the conversion process to the layman be in the works? I’ve tried explaining my best to friends about converting but I’m currently going through basic introductory studies first before I do my conversion classes, and trying to find an explanation by someone who has gone through that process is not easy to find. PS - if you want reasonably priced modest clothing, I do my shopping at Kosher Casual PPS - the Roald Dahl books are really good if you want movie night, James And The Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, The Witches (the older movie and maybe that one for older kids)
1) what's your horoscope? Or birth date, time and place (so I can look it up😁) 2) do you plan on teaching your son Gemara? And if you do would you get him a teacher or teach him yourself? 3) if you did come to live in Israel, which city/settlement would it be? Thanks, hope these questions are ok with you
I’m looking at some sewing again because: my size is in between several plus sizes, I’m tall and for some reason ready to wear plus size clothes are sized for a woman 5’6”. I’m following you tubers: lifting pins and needles, pear and penguin, and lovenotions patterns.
Hi Chana, I would like to know what your thoughts and feelings were when you converted to Judaism particularly going from a Jesus Christ centred religion to one that holds no value to Christ. Was it difficult to change your mindset? Did Christianity and Judaism sharing history together make it easier? Loved todays video, thank you for sharing. The scarf you are wearing is beautiful, love the pattern and colours.
I think when I hear Orthodox Jew I think of Ultra Orthodox, maybe because of what I've seen in the media. What are some differences. For example, I thought Orthodox Jews did not watch TV, but maybe that is Ultra Orthodox. What are some other differences? Also, I stumbled upon your UA-cam channel yesterday, and I'm on my winter break from teaching, so perfect opportunity to have a marathon. I'm also gluten free due to celiac disease, and it is a big change, so solidarity there! I hope that my questions are not rude, I'm just trying to clarify my understanding. Thank you for being open and sharing your story and lifestyle. Much love!
There are many “kinds” of orthodox, it’s a lot of nuance things mostly. We all keep Shabbat, keep kosher etc. Differences are more cultural and some with dress (like some will wear a wig, some will wear a little hat with the wig for example). So nothing too major :)
Hi Chana, I'm a little late to this video bc I like to listen to Q and As when I wash dishes. I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriages; I had a lot of anxiety about losing my baby when I was pregnant so it makes sense to me that you wouldn't want to risk it again... 💜 How do your children like being homeschooled? Do you ever discuss what "normal" school is like with them? Do they have close friends from shul or homeschooling groups or your neighborhood or something? Would you ever put your children in an art class or gymnastics class or chess club etc, basically anything that would serve a specific interest that maybe you are not an expert in, but your child is interested in? If you have answered these questions before, I would appreciate a link to your video! (I have a lot of homeschool questions bc I plan to homeschool my child.)
Seizures, violent mood episodes for hours, vomiting, refusing to eat or toilet and severe withdrawals from seizure meds for weeks now😢😢😢😢😢😢😢. Today there has been some positives though🎉🎉🎉🎉. We are getting through it. We love God! Praise Him with me for who He is!
I can relate to the miscarriages. I lost 6 babies after two normal pregnancies. We finally gave up. So I understand about not wanting to go through it again.
Hello from Quebec, Canada 🙂 I wanted to say that you do a very good job of respecting your children's privacy but yet including them in the videos. My questions are: What is your husband's occupation? What was your occupation before children and have you always lived in Texas?
Thank you so much for your kind words! And your questions :) I’ll include them in my upcoming Q&A! P.s. I love Canada! I’ve visited before and it’s absolutely lovely ❤️ amazing landscape and people 😊
Dear Chana, thank you so much for letting us join the days of you and your family here on UA-cam. Can I ask you (sorry for my english which isn't my first language): are non-jews allound to kasher a kitchen? Like if somebody who isn't a jew rents out a house temporarily and wants to prepare it so that is easier for jews to move in, can this person kasher the kitchen? And if not, what can/should this person do that you feel welcome there? All the best, Luisa
It’s amazing that your husband speaks for languages. I’m assuming that Hebrew is one of them? And Yiddish? I'd love to know all the languages he speaks if you wouldn't mind? I was trained as a linguist and am fascinated by anything language related. Thank you for the video and thank you in advance if you do answer my question.
I already filmed the follow up Q&A video, so I will answer your question here :) My husband speaks Hebrew, Arabic, English, and Spanish. His Russian is pretty good and his French fairly conversational:)
@@jaroffireflies thanks love. Your husband sounds a lovely man! I can understand how you feel about the miscarriages, I had 8 still births, 5 at 6 months and 3 at nearly 9 months before I had my daughter who will be 13 in two weeks. Part of me would love to move to Israel, I can retire in 4 and 1/2 years, it would depend on if my mother is still living, how much money I have invested and how much Hebrew I can learn.
Israel is such a beautiful historic country. I had the opportunity to go in 2016 on a pilgrimage with my church. We spent most of the time visiting Christian religious sites. I would love to go as a regular tourist and see more of the country and experience more of the communities. People we met were wonderful and the food so fresh and delicious.
Move to Israel! 😘 I love it there so much. I worked in Tel Aviv for 2 yrs. I do go back once in awhile. Not a Jewish girl. There is something for everyone in Israel.
When I was out with my day program at the mall my staff would show me different clothing. It was difficult explaining to her why I couldn’t wear those clothes since they weren’t modest since my shul has us dressing modestly even though it’s a Reform shul.

@@this-is-my-voice fair enough :) I believe that what I believe is true, otherwise I wouldn’t believe it. And yes, I’m happy with it. If I wasn’t happy with it, or I found that I didn’t believe it, I would find what I did believe (as I did in the past when I converted).
@@jaroffireflies thanks. Though I would say it does not have to be both there are people who aren't happy but believe it's true so do it anyway. Then there are people who are happy about it (aspects like sense of community) but don't believe so much or maybe they allow themselves to believe because it suits them too. The Indian in the Cupboard is an excellent book I’d highly recommend. Babe is great too! My great grandfather emigrated to the U S with his mother from Morocco. His name was Louis Mimran.
Thank you so much for the suggestions! And so cool that your Great Grandfather came from Morocco!
Questions! 1. If I remember, you said you converted twice? Can you talk about that? 2. Without saying your names, did you give your kids Jewish names? 3. How many languages do you speak?
Thank you for your questions! I will add those to the list!!!! 💕
Great video!!! Would love one on the different headcover styles...I have trouble keeping them on cause my hair is so long. The others asked some great questions...but could you do more on the conversion...we are just starting out.
I don't know if Chana does this, but you can use a velvet headband to hold your scarf better. I get mine from a company called Wrapunzel
Thank you so much for the questions! I’ll add them to the list! And hello fellow Texan!!!! 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
I am new to this account and it’s awesome. I love that you don’t share your kids names and they are not the center of my videos.
I am looks forward to more videos
Thank you for your kind words! And thank you for being here 💜
As someone who is going through the process of converting to Judaism, firstly, any recommendations on study texts or anything that helped you get through conversion?
Also would a video explaining the conversion process to the layman be in the works? I’ve tried explaining my best to friends about converting but I’m currently going through basic introductory studies first before I do my conversion classes, and trying to find an explanation by someone who has gone through that process is not easy to find.
PS - if you want reasonably priced modest clothing, I do my shopping at Kosher Casual
PPS - the Roald Dahl books are really good if you want movie night, James And The Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, The Witches (the older movie and maybe that one for older kids)
Thank you for the suggestions and questions! I’ll add your questions to the list and check out your suggestions 💜
1) what's your horoscope? Or birth date, time and place (so I can look it up😁)
2) do you plan on teaching your son Gemara? And if you do would you get him a teacher or teach him yourself?
3) if you did come to live in Israel, which city/settlement would it be?
Thanks, hope these questions are ok with you
Hope it's not too late😕

I’m looking at some sewing again because: my size is in between several plus sizes, I’m tall and for some reason ready to wear plus size clothes are sized for a woman 5’6”. I’m following you tubers: lifting pins and needles, pear and penguin, and lovenotions patterns.
Good luck in your sewing adventures!
I’ll add that to the list! Thank you! And thank you for your kind words 💜 I super appreciate it!
I want to hear your story, too!
Yes
Hi Chana, I'm a little late to this video bc I like to listen to Q and As when I wash dishes. I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriages; I had a lot of anxiety about losing my baby when I was pregnant so it makes sense to me that you wouldn't want to risk it again... 💜
How do your children like being homeschooled? Do you ever discuss what "normal" school is like with them? Do they have close friends from shul or homeschooling groups or your neighborhood or something? Would you ever put your children in an art class or gymnastics class or chess club etc, basically anything that would serve a specific interest that maybe you are not an expert in, but your child is interested in?
If you have answered these questions before, I would appreciate a link to your video!
(I have a lot of homeschool questions bc I plan to homeschool my child.)
Thank you for your questions! I’ll add them to the list!
you should watch Inkheart and Journey To The Centre Of The Earth on your next family movie night. they both have Brendan Fraser.
There’s a new Journey to the Center of the Earth?!? I’ll be looking into those, thank you!
@@jaroffireflies - its from 2008, they made one with the Rock, but Brendan was in the original.
@@Belushi87 so fun! Definitely looking them up tonight! Thanks!
How old were your kids when they poop toilet trained? My daughter is super delayed so i dont know whats normal
I can relate to the miscarriages. I lost 6 babies after two normal pregnancies. We finally gave up. So I understand about not wanting to go through it again.
Huge hugs to you! It’s so hard every time 💜
Hello from Quebec, Canada 🙂
I wanted to say that you do a very good job of respecting your children's privacy but yet including them in the videos.
Fabulous question Luisa! I’ll put it on my list
I heard about an Orthodox Jewish lady from New York who makes videos for women and children. I wish I had more details for you!
Thank yo use much! And thank you for sharing some of your story. I am grateful every day for the technology that helps us today!
@@saraschneider6781 well they live in Texas so there is plenty of opportunity to use Spanish, but I'm curious about the others as well
Lol, a year later, have you made the scarf yet?
OH YES I AM STUCK WATCHING YOU TUBE VIDEOS AND NOW ESPECIALLY WATCHING YOUR YOU TUBE VIDEOS
Thank you!!!
How did you and your husband meet?
We met at a Shabbat dinner at a neighbors house, completely by chance!
Is French easier for mr fireflies?
He does not speak French
im addicted to redocor (awesome room design game) and harry potter puzzles & spells game. The only 2 games i play but every...single...day.
Oh I need to look those up!
Just wondered if your a convert or were born Jewish.
If a convert how have you found adjusting to the Law.
And how did you meet your husband?
Great questions! thank you! I'll happily address these in the next Q&A video :)
@@jaroffireflies thanks love.
Your husband sounds a lovely man!
I can understand how you feel about the miscarriages, I had 8 still births, 5 at 6 months and 3 at nearly 9 months before I had my daughter who will be 13 in two weeks.
I count myself fortunate to have one child as much as she's hard work and a pain in the backside at times, my heart goes out to those who would make great parents but are unable to conceive.
@@tracyl1368 oh my dear sending you so much love!!!! I can’t even imagine ❤️❤️❤️ I’m sure your daughter is a complete joy to you 💜💜💜 thank you for sharing that
Dunno about joy love......considering she's nearly a teenager and knows it all! 😂
Thanks lovey
@@tracyl1368 lol I thought about that lol I hear you 💜 Good luck!!!
Can you please share some gluten free recipes?
Hi Jesse! I have shared some recipes on my Cooking / Baking playlist, and I try to share what I’m cooking and how in some of my DITL videos (another playlist). Check those out for tried and true recipes!
@@jaroffireflies thanks I'll check those out
@@jessieklein6361 great! I’ll work on including more of our favs in future videos, and I will be doing a gluten free thanksgiving video too! So make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss those 💜
Oh yes hair coverings would be a great video to do
It’s in the works! ❤️
Why do you Homeschool?
Another great question! Thank you! I’ll add it to my list!
I'm curious about this, too! Also, what is the homeschooling community like where you live?
I was listening to this video while I was working for the past 20 minutes and I kept raising my head up and confusion going”..... wait a minute she had four kids?… Wait her husband already appeared in a video.…” and then I saw the date of this video and felt incredibly stupid 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 it happens
Part of me would love to move to Israel, I can retire in 4 and 1/2 years, it would depend on if my mother is still living, how much money I have invested and how much Hebrew I can learn.
Ulpan really helps with Hebrew! Moving to Israel is an exciting prospect :)
👏👏👏👏 excelente
Thank you!
Move to Israel! 😘 I love it there so much. I worked in Tel Aviv for 2 yrs. I do go back once in awhile. Not a Jewish girl. There is something for everyone in Israel.
I have family there! We talk often about moving there :)
Hi Channa, You may be surprised to know you are leading me out of C.H.A.O.S. 🤗💕
Did you ever consider sewing your own clothes?
Oh I’ll add this to the list! Thanks!
Do you let your kids watch unsupervised T.V ,like whatever is on...
Thank you for your question! I’ll answer that in my next q&a video!
Im sorry you had pregnancy losses😢
When I was out with my day program at the mall my staff would show me different clothing. It was difficult explaining to her why I couldn’t wear those clothes since they weren’t modest since my shul has us dressing modestly even though it’s a Reform shul.
So interesting!
Ewww the jet tub mold😮😂
What youtube channels do you like? I watch a lot of Christian moms or bible reading guys, the history shelf( book review lady peg) chikara transformations ( ilona the body builder who talks common sense and is a real one from bulgaria)
Gloria z thompson. New boy Mom booktuber beekeeper
Did you make your husband a scarf yet?
😂 no he is still scarf-less
Does it matter to you if what you believe (orthodox Judaism) is actually the truth or you're just happy with it regardless.?
I’ve already filmed the q&a video with the questions folks asked here! It’s posting on Monday :)
@@jaroffireflies well you're welcome to reply here or answer in a future video if you like.
Personally I think everyone should search for the truth. Not to prove what they believe or like is true. Anyway good luck to you בהצלחה
@@this-is-my-voice I answered about my personal belief, not other people :) I can’t speak for others, only myself
Do you have a bachelor degree? Spouse?
Do you believe in "higher education"?
Thanks for the questions! I’ll add them to the list for the next q&a!
Why do you have to cover your hair but can wear a wig....enough you content and learning about your journey..thank you
