Seeing people from my shul wherever I go in my city. I love my shul community! They are wonderful! When we go out to eat we see someone we know. It’s so funny, but wonderiful to see them. We are such a close knit community at my shul. After losing my Bubbie in February even my mom’s colleagues stepped up and ordered meals so I wouldn’t have to worry about eating along with my family helping with meals for me and for my dad. My mom’s colleagues heard that it was a Mitzvah to help with meals along with making sure that they were there for me.
Oh my gosh, you guys hiring a babysitter and going out on a date grocery shopping together made me laugh out loud 😂 My husband loves grocery shopping and he would take me when we were newly dating. I hate grocery shopping, but it was all good because I enjoyed his company… I’m really enjoying your video, even though I’m not Jewish, and I’m not looking to convert, you radiate so much kindness and positivity!
And I do understand the thing about going to the grocery store, I’ve known of people like that as well, for me, grocery delivery is generally the best option for various reasons, but I can definitely see that when grocery shopping can be really fun especially if you are a foodie/you like food, you may come across different food items and stuff like that. Also, there are some items that you can definitely order but maybe even better in person, if you were going to be getting scented candles or something like that, you can read the descriptions and just order but it is really nice to be able to smell the actual candles, because sometimes there might be some things that you didn’t expect you would like based off of the name in that kind of thing

Thank you for answering the question about the job selling cars in California. Several years ago I (a non-Jew) remember being very annoyed at one colleague whose schedule on Fridays was varied and everyone basically thought he was getting special treatment because he had to be home by sundown. I started watching your videos a few months ago and now of course I totally understand why he had the schedule he did - observance of the tenets of his faith was obviously very important to him. I share this to let you know, at least in my tiny spot in Pennsylvania, your videos have changed someone's worldview. So keep up the good work! :)
@@jaroffireflies I wish that I'd been more knowledgeable then but I am now, and when we know better we do better. ANYWAY, I really enjoy your videos so keep doing what you're doing! :)
I cover my hair for non-religious reasons and I actually found your channel because I was mistaken for a Jewish woman and experienced anti-Semitism. I was really confused because I didn't even know Jewish people covered their hair (I grew up in a small town in the South with about 7k ppl) or that that would even be something people would get offended by? So after that experience I typed something like "Jewish women hair coverings" into UA-cam and found your video on your different types (I usually do a square one like you do or a turban wrap) and had a blast learning about the different types that you use and why and where etc. I'm sorry people are so narrow-minded that they feel the need to harass you and your sweet community, that is such a low thing to do. Thanks for your awesome content I hope you have a great rest of your day!
@@jaroffireflies I came out of it okay. I was raised by an incredibly sassy matriarch so I promptly informed him that not only was he a bigot he was a stupid bigot because I wasn't even Jewish which made him not even smart enough to be able to visually identify the people he was so hell-bent on hating. Costco security made him leave so that was pretty cool, apparently there's a pretty big Jewish population near here in Southfield Michigan so It wasn't the first instance they'd had to deal with but it was the first time they'd seen a woman start cussing someone for it 😬

Its so inspiring how enthusiastic you are about celebrating holidays and all the different projects you do! This was a really interesting video, hearing your perspectives and stories. Btw, I don't know if you've heard of it but theres this thing called fashion tape (I believe that's the name) thats like a sort of tape used to keep blouses and everything in place. No clue if it would work but maybe it's worth a try, just sticking like a few pieces on the forehead in strategic places and sort of "glue on" the tichel. Again, this might be a silly idea and I've never tried it but it just popped into my mind. Of course that would mean no hair showing and the tichel sitting quite low... And then there's of course the option of bobby pins or "statement" hair clips but that's not everyone's cup of tea either...
So glad you enjoyed! It was a fun video to make too :) I’ve recently seen fashion tape, and unfortunately that wouldn’t work. But the pins and pretty clips would!

A few more questions. Where do you get your square scarves? The cotton ones are the best and my favorite since I live in the south. Can you shop second hand? Like used furniture, clothes, dishes? Can you raise your own animals, do your own biblical slaughtering and have it be kosher? Can you also milk your own animal and have that be kosher? Can you use organic fish fertilizer for gardens that contain crab meal (or ingredients from other unclean animal)? And do all orthodox Jews live in huge cities? I would love to hear your conversion story as we have left Christianity and are looking at orthodox... Our faith IS and always has been and always will be our LIFE. (We come from conservative Mennonite, turned messianic, turned??)
Hi! I get my scarves all over, many different stores. Some of my favorites are from thrift shops. I too, prefer cotton. Yes, we can shop second hand for anything except some dishes that can't be kashered after they have been used with non kosher food. Yes, we can absolutely raise and slaughter our own animals and have it be kosher. I personally do not have the knowledge for either of those, but do hope to learn to raise chickens in the future :) . Yes, we can milk our own animals and it is kosher. We sometimes purchase fresh milk form a local farm, totally kosher. I'm not certain on your fertilizer question, but I don't see that it would be a problem. Not all Orthodox Jews live in big cities, but many do because we need to be near communities and that's where they can be easily built (with access to jobs etc).

Hello! Speaking of going grocery shopping together, having Shabbat every week & it being a big deal, especially food planning, how much on average do you spend on groceries or food? With the rising costs of food in general, I’ve noticed my grocery bill has increased quite a bit. TIA!
My bill has increased as well. I’ve made changes to our meal plans and that’s helped considerably. I have a video coming out Thursday with more meal ideas!
Hello! I love your channel. I watch it all the time. I have a few questions. First, do you ever go to services alone? You mention your husband going to services alone, so I was wondering about that. Do you often go to services as a family? Or is it a requirement that your husband go to shul for certain things without family? Second, if a woman chose not to marry or have children, what would her role be in the orthodox community? Would she be able to fit in or would that be out of character in your experience? I hope my questions aren't ignorant or offensive - I am trying to learn. Thank you!
My husband is required to go to services so he always goes. I don’t go often because I prefer to pray at home. But sometimes I go. Sometimes we attend as a family, but there is a men’s section and a women’s section. There are single women in our community and many others. Single women are absolutely part of the community.
What are your plans for Purim meal as it falls on Friday? We’re thinking of having the meal during the morning but was wondering if you’re thinking of combining the Purim meal with the Shabbos meal? Love your channel!
We are planning to have our Purim meal early in the afternoon. We would normally do it around 3, but we are going to try to do it much earlier this year at like lunch time / late lunch time. We can't combine the two meals, because they fall on two separate days in the Jewish calendar.
How cool of you to have a channel like this, feels very welcoming! I have two questions I'd like to ask you, and I'm asking this from a Protestant perspective (not super familiar with Catholicism). How do you, as a former (observant?) Catholic, view the relationship between the traditions and practices of Jewry and the Christian sola scriptura principle? And on the subject of traditions, what do you think of the passages on Jesus in the Talmud?
So glad that you are enjoying my channel! As for your questions... Sola scriptura is a principle that is definitely not held by Catholics. It’s only held by some Protestants at that. But to answer, the Torah is very clear that you cannot add or subtract from the Torah. Therefore, the addition of the New Testament clearly cannot be added to the Torah. But to one following sola scriptura, that individual wouldn’t care much about the Torah or what they call the Old Testament 😊 So it’s something we would just need to agree to disagree on. There is no relationship between those two principles another than that they simply don’t mesh as I just explained. As for Jesus in the Talmud, I’ve never heard of that, so that’s not something I can speak of :)
I grew up Protestant. We were always very interested in the Old Testament. After all, the Ten Commandments is a really big deal to Protestants. I was totally fascinated by all the Old Testament stories. There were also readings from both the New & Old Testaments during church services.
Loved the video! Also, thanks for clarifying that somebody was using a nail gun in your video...I totally thought someone was chopping something loudly in my own kitchen! LOL
I always find your channel interesting. I actually thought Orthodox Judaism did not watch TV. I guess I am confusing that with Hasidic Judaism. I worked with a Jewish Family in their business but the husband was not kosher so that confused me. I was raised Catholic just like you but I was always interested in Judaism. 😊
So just like there are Catholics who go to daily mass, and others weekly, and others only on xmas and Easter, you have Jews who are more and less observant than others :) As for the TV, there is no law that says we can't watch TV, so its just a personal choice that families or individuals make. That said, there are sometimes communities where it is strongly discouraged. My community is very diverse in that we have some people who never watch tv never owned a tv, and others with large TVs who watch often :) To each their own :)
Hello! I used to follow Ashkenaz customs as I lived in an Ashkenaz community, but when I got engaged, to a Sephardi man, I started following Sephardi customs. We follow all Sephardi customs in our home, and I considered Sephardi now.

@@jaroffireflies i was thinking of maybe like events where maybe the food or even what the purpose of the event i.e a play that’s christian/catholic themed. would your kids still be able to take part or attend?
@@Belushi87 we have been to events where we can’t eat the food because it’s not kosher. We go anyway and just don’t eat. Doesn’t happen often though. As for a Christian themed play, we would most likely skip something like that. After hearing your examples, what comes to mind is a Halloween or Valentine’s Day party, we would not attend. Those just aren’t holidays we celebrate so we wouldn’t partake in the celebration:)
I know lots of observant Jewish doctors. Not sure the details of how it all works out for them, but they definitely work full time. Saving a life is considered above all for us, even above observing Shabbat.

I love Wild and Free!
So do we!
Many sales jobs involve working Saturday and/ or Sunday.
I ♥️PodCasts too…….☀️
I think of your husband as stern and intimidating. Is he light-hearted and fun?
Did you do a blog about baby firefly’s Brit Millah?
Loved the video! Also, thanks for clarifying that somebody was using a nail gun in your video...I totally thought someone was chopping something loudly in my own kitchen! LOL
🤣 I kept trying to repeat myself while I was filming but it just wasn’t working. The nail gun had to stay in.
I am enjoying your videos. I am curious are you located in Texas? I am a former Texan.
Yup! Texan here! Thanks so much for watching!
Have a lichtig Shabbos
May I ask how did she veer more sephardic vs. European customs ? was it just based on who she married.
Hello! I used to follow Ashkenaz customs as I lived in an Ashkenaz community, but when I got engaged, to a Sephardi man, I started following Sephardi customs. We follow all Sephardi customs in our home, and I considered Sephardi now.
@@jaroffireflies THANK YOU!!
@@KS-op5hb you are so welcome
Viewing many of your past videos. A few questions. Your husband's family is from Isreal. Was your husband born there? How did he come to live in Texas? Many thanks.
Hello! Yes, my husband is from Israel. He moved here for work.
Does your family (mom and dad) come for any Jewish holidays.
Jewish Geography is the best game ever. LoL
Love Jewish Geography! lol My parents etc don't come for Jewish holidays. We pretty much do our own thing for all of our holidays but we are spending Thanksgiving together this year and my heart is so happy about that!
Us New Zealanders have a similar geography....meet a kiwi in USA, England, anywhere and quickly would find mutual friends lol
@@eileenhildreth8355 that’s awesome! It’s really a small world we love in :)
ANY anti-Semitism is too much - that is scary and sad for your children to learn about. I am so so sorry. My family stands with you. Your channel is a good work towards better understanding in this world. Thank you - you are a great model of “be the change you want to see” and your children are lucky to have you and your husband.
Thank you so much and thank you for your kind and supportive words 💜
Nice vidéo 😊
Thank you :)
Ok if there are non practicing Jews are they still receiving the same after life or blessings after death as orthodox jews?❤
I don’t know much about afterlife stuff to be able to answer any questions on it
What called you to be an Orthodox, rather than a Conservative or Reform Jew?
Did you want my conversion story videos? I explain it all in there :) Here is a link to part 1: ua-cam.com/video/BfJxZH3rKKI/v-deo.html Links to parts 2 and 3 are in the description of the video :)
@@jaroffireflies Ooh, I will do that! I just found your channel a couple of days ago and have been binge-watching your videos...I live in suburban Atlanta and my husband is an Anglican priest...we have 2 sons, ages 27 and 25...have a blessed day!
@@gingerhammond6446 awesome! Thank you! And thank you for the introduction:) Always nice to get to know folks here!
Question: How can you give up Jesus?
Hello
Do you own a microwave I've never seen you using one?
I do not own a microwave 😁
I like how you put your faith in G-D
Thank you 😊
Enjoyed this! Do you wear pantyhose or stockings in the summer?
So glad you enjoyed! To answer your question, yes and no lol I am barefoot a lot, so then I’m obviously not. But if I’m wearing shoes I am wearing hose or socks. I almost exclusively wear maxi skirts so that affects my decision also.
@@jaroffireflies Thanks for your reply. I like the idea of wearing a maxi skirt in the summer!
@UCMJi2ZaSHbzFGEUtdm6kIsA it’s so much cooler in the Texas heat! In my community it’s fine to wear sandals etc though many women hear wear hose as well.
@@jaroffireflies Where do you live in TX (not specifically, for privacy reasons)? I used in to live in Weatherford. Can't imagine wearing stockings in that heat.
@UCMJi2ZaSHbzFGEUtdm6kIsA so I don’t get specific other than that I live in TX for privacy reasons. Thank you for understanding:) But ya, you definitely understand our heat!
is there anything your kids can’t do for religious reasons?
Basically all the same things I can’t do such obligations for keeping kosher, Shabbat, etc. Did you have a specific thing you were thinking of?
Why do the men rock back and forth when they pray.
Does the constant hair covering affect the health of your hair?
Nope
About job and free day... This means that a doctor cannot be Jewis? A can a doctor decide not to work Friday After 5 or saturday?
I know lots of observant Jewish doctors. Not sure the details of how it all works out for them, but they definitely work full time. Saving a life is considered above all for us, even above observing Shabbat.
my fiance and I LOVE grocery shopping with coffee!!!!!!! total date!
Yes!!!!! Love that other folks do this too :)
Do your parents call you Hannah
Nope :) they call me the name they chose for me and I love that
The anti semitism part appalled me. I just CANNOT comprehend this kind of hatred, especially in this day and age. I'm so sorry that people can be like this.
Its unfortunate, but luckily the vast majority of people in the world are absolutely wonderful :)
Why isn’t your husband in any of your videos? What type of job does he have?
My husband is a contractor and he’s not in many of my videos because I’m typically filming when he’s not around.
Do you think the orthodox Jewish faith is misogynistic?
No
Do you do halloween?
No
are you allowed to wear makeup?
Yes :) I just personally don’t wear it very often
I'm a new subscriber and not Jewish. I'm horrified to hear about the antisemitism in your community.
Hello and welcome! I’m so happy you’re here! Yes, it’s terribly sad that this sort of thing is still going on.
Have you had time to watch the prime series about young orthodox people filmed in Jerusalem, that I sent you on Instagram? I know how busy you are but let me know when you watch and thoughts. I loved it
I still haven't had a chance yet! I haven't been watching any TV lately. Seems there is so much to do that there is no time to just sit and watch tv. But that's ok, its just a chapter and I know life will calm down soon :)
What show?
