Me!!! A whole giant vegetable garden in grow bags! Invested $500 - returns last year of approx $700 and this year should be near $1400!
Bought a packet of seeds and wasn't sure of the plant size and way it grew. I love these type of videos because it's straight to the point and shows me all the stages so I know what to look out for and if it's growing nicely
So glad you love my videos and found them helpful. Thank you so much!
Yes, no unnecessary talks but action..I do love it
I cant plant I tried many times always dying 😢
@Genn Monreal R. it tends to be trial and error at first, remember the weather and where we live influences a lot. For me it's very hard because I live in a tropical island and my plants tend to die from too much heat or this particular white plague that just appears out of nowhere. I have to try and adapt some instructions to fit my home because otherwise they die
3 months and not a sprout😢
Thank you for another informative video! It was educating and relaxing at the same time. Can't wait for more.
Glad to hear that. Thank you so much for your comment😊
One of my plants/flowers died a few months back. It really discouraged me from gardening but, I managed to pull through and remembered "Whatever you believe i could have achieved. So you grow my inspiration for plants, so thank you.
You learn as you go so keep it up! Thanks for the comment.
Please don't get discouraged. Keep a journal of everything you plant and learn from it.
What kind of plant was it that died? May I ask.

@@TowardGarden What are the issues or problems with aubergines in terms of virsus' or caterpillars etc?
@@user-zq6mc9tz6y Eggplants may be affected mostly by aphids, red spider mite, whitefly and thrips. The best is to take action at early stages with the first signs of pest presence. My go-to option is to spray 100% pure neem oil mix (mix as directed on label). Apply the mix in the early morning or late evening, under the leaves and not directly onto the flower. If the spray is used in direct sunlight you risk scorching your plant. i hope this helps and thank you for getting in touch!

@@TowardGarden You're welcome!
Great video! Questions: Can eggplants be grown indoor? If it is grown outdoor, how much sunlight does it need, and what is the ideal watering frequency?
Eggplants should be planted in full sun(8 hrs a day) to grow well. Watering will depend on the weather and condition of growing. If it is too hot and specially for grow bags, you may need to water daily. Generally, check top 1 inch or finger tip of the soil. If it is dry then you need to water plants. Thank you very much for your comment!
I Am Gardening Eggplants… Think i will try this year
That's great. Happy gardening and thank you for your comment!
Hello….just found your video and subscribed….so informative and love the step by step instructions and as other viewers said it’s great to see what the plant should look like as it grows…..I want to check if you have a video on starting the seeds (which I am assuming is indoors)???? Do I need grow lights?????? I just bought Black Beauty Eggplant from my favorite seed company MiGardener….. I don’t know yet if you recommended anyone else…..I’ll be binge watching all your videos for the ones I will be planting…ty so much…
So glad that you love my videos and found them helpful. I don't have a specific video on starting seeds; all my videos include the steps to start from seed. And I generally don't use grow lights. I have a shed like room in my backyard where I keep my seed trays until the seedlings sprout. As soon as they pop out, I move them outside either in filtered sunlight (under a patio umbrella), or 3-4 hours of direct early morning sunlight. If you have a very cold weather, cold frames are great options to protect seedlings. Welcome to the channel and thank you so much for your comment!
@@TowardGarden Thank you for responding so quickly…. I will look into what a “cold frame” is…. did direct sowing for the first time this year and started late….canned my snap beans and Lima beans this past week….but I had frozen them as I harvested……only have a small 4x10 plot in the backyard…..peppers didn’t do well…still learning and doing my best….👋🏻👵🏻
Thank you again! I watch all your videos, they are very inspiring. I just planted eggplants a couple of days ago in 5 gallon grow bags like you have shown. My transplants were pretty much the same size as yours. But now some of them are flowering. It is an early fruiting variety but even then are not the plants too small to flower and bear fruit? If they flower this soon the plant wont have energy to drop roots and grow, right? I cut off the flowers. Then I am wondering maybe I shouldn't have the plant knows what to do? What do think? Do you ever trim off some eggplant blooms?
Depending on the variety you grow, they may flower at different stages. I usually don't prune flowers but if you did, don't worry the plant will produce more flowers later. Just make sure to keep plants fertilized. I hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
@@TowardGarden what do you use to fertilize and how often? Thanks for this helpful video.
@@deec4963 I use organic vegetable 3-4-4 fertilizer, about half a cup every 2 to 3 weeks. You may also use any tomato fertilizer. Thank you so much for your comment!
Love the videos. I watch them often. Should I add the 1 cup of fertilizer to the grow bag or in the container when making my mix. Thanks
Glad you love the videos😊. You can do both, but it will be easier if add it to each pot so you need exactly how much you are adding to each pot . Since you will be fertilizing along the way, either way will work. Thank you so much for your comment!
Love your videos and format. Do you need to pollinate at all? If so, how?
Although eggplant flowers need pollination, the plant is self-pollinating and a light wind will take care of the job. However, if you want to ensure pollination happed, all needed is a gentle shake of the plant. I hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!🙏😊
@@TowardGarden Thanks so much! One more question, will the same plant after picking off the ripened eggplant still output more eggplant? Or would I need to pull that plant out and replant another seedling?
You may cut it back and let to regrow during late summer, but I personally prefer to start again for a healthier plants. Thank you.
Yet another great video. Do leftover seeds of any plant or herb keep for another year? As a small family unit, we don’t need that many plants at one time, so it will be useful if seeds can be saved. Thanks.
If you keep seeds in a cool and dry place you may save and use them for another year. Thank you very much for your comment!
Seed life span, viability, varies from 1 year to many years depending on the type of vegetable. You can google life spans on the net. I believe eggplant is good for 4 or so years.
@@TowardGarden Thanks for the tip.
@@billastell3753 Thank you for the tip. I will certainly look it up on the net.
@@squange20 You can also get a little container that will vacuum seal and push all the air out of the container. Something for $20-30 may hold thousands of seeds. Will preserve them better for following years.
Beautiful plants! Thank you for this very informative video. Where do you buy your seeds from?
Glad you liked it. I get my seed from local garden centers(like this one) or online from seed companies directly. This variety is from Cornucopia brand seed. Thank you very much for your comment!
Think I will try this as have had bad luck in the passed
Great! Happy growing and thank you for your comment!🌱
Hi! What fertiliser do you use .. and would you suggest pinching the plants in the early stages to make them bushy?
Thanks! 😃
Hi. The fertilizer used is an organic vegetable with N-P-K ratio of 3-4-4 . I have never pinched an eggplant plant and am not sure if bushy plant will make a big difference. Thank you very much for getting in touch!
Thank you for all the help. Do I need to add lime when making my potting soil and using peat for all of my vegetables grown in grow bags. Thank you.
That's a great idea. Since you already putting time to make soil, it is always good idea to make extra for other plants too. Happy gardening and thank you for your comment!
Great video,
After harvest. Do I keep eggplant plant/tree for the next years harvest?
Although eggplants are perennials and they can come back next year, but they are more commonly grown to produce fruits as an annuals. I usually start them from seed each year. Thank you so much for your comment!
After harvesting the eggplant, does the plant bears fruit again? (eggplant again?) Ty
You will be able to harvest fruits in a period of couple of weeks or more, but once harvesting is done and specially if it gets colder, it will stop fruiting. Eggplants are perennial, meaning they can come back next growing season, but it is more common to grow them annually to get a better fruit quality. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
Hi the pocket how much gallon the bucket for the eggplant you can use your plant in 7 gallon right ✅ i like you video 💪
Yes, I planted in 7 and 5 gallon grow bags. For plastic buckets, I recommend a 12 in (30 cm) wide and deep pots. I hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment! 🙏
@@TowardGarden thanks
Thank you so much for your videos. If I may ask, where do you purchase your containers please?
I get the grow bags online @amazon.com. The plastic pots I either re-use buckets (like flower buckets from local grocery stores) or get them at our local garden centers(Home Depot, Lowers, Ace hardware,...). I hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!😊
Thank you so much!
One of the other gardeners said they are ready to harvest when just can gently press your thumb in and it leaves a slight indent. Water well throughout the growing season so the skin doesn't end up bitter.
Good to know. Thank you for your feedback!
Hi! What's the size of the containers or grow bags are you using? Thank you for the video.
These are 5 and 7 gallon grow bags. Thank you very much for your comment!
Hi is advisable to plant here in my place though it's rainy season, hoping for your advice, thanks.
Eggplants do well in warmer weathers and cool/rainy season might effect their fruit production. If you have the option, I suggest to grow them in a form of a greenhouse where you can control the temperatures. For example if grown in containers, you may use large clear plastic bags to make an individual greenhouse for each pot. Also, in cloudy or cool weather, tapping the flowers will encourage pollination. I hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
Did you prune it?
No I did not. I only picked old leaves on the bottom part here and there. Thank you for visiting.
هل حصلت على نفس النتائج في الكيس 5g و 7g ؟
Yes, almost same results.
What do you do with that much eggplant? I love marinating it, but I don't know if it'd store long enough to use it all up?
We usually share our crops with friends and family, so it doesn't get to the point of storing :) Thanks for getting in touch!
@@TowardGarden 👍🏻😊
I'm in North Texas. Do eggplant tolerate heat well ? We have 3 growing seasons: Spring, Summer & Fall. When is it best to start the seeds ? Do they like lots of sun....or mostly just morning....or more shade ?
Eggplants do well in full sun (6-8 hrs of sun). If you have a mild winter like me in California, you can start seed either mid winter (Feb.) or mid summer to harvest in October. When grown in full sun, for very hot days +90F, you can protect plants with some shade cloths (I use 30% blocking cloths). I hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
What are those white plastic ties that you're using to hold up the fruit?
These are called "Tomato trellis clips" you can find online (Amazon). Thank you for visiting!
Hi there I live in Florida and bug are bag here and very hot what could you tell me thanks
Hi there. For plants(such as eggplants) that don't need pollinators like bees to set fruits, you mat use garden netting to keep the bugs away. Or you can grow insect-repelling plants(basil, mint, lavender , petunia,...) around your vegetables to keep bugs away. I hope this helps and thank you for visiting.
Do you have a video on growing tomatoes in grow bags..
I am planning to share a video on tomatos in grow bags. FYI I 've had great results with bush Roma tomatos in grow bags. A great variety to try in containers.

@@daybreakga I recommend min. 7 gallon bags. I have used 5 gallon but plants didn't grow well. Thanks for getting in touch.
What do you do with the plant after harvest?
Once harvested, I usually add old plants to my compost bin. I do same with the old roots in the potting mix. Thank you for getting in touch!
Do you fertilize with the granular or composted manure each month? Do you cut off any fruits or off shoots of the eggplant?
I feed with 3-4-4 organic fertilizer (not liquid), not manure. And I don't cut fruits or off shoots. Thanks.
@@TowardGarden thank you!
What are those bags made of? Is it felt? Do they have holes in the bottom or is that not necesery?
These are gardening grow bags made from non-woven fabric and are self-draining, no need to add any holes. I listed few of them on my amazon page amzn.to/48l700B . Thank you for getting in touch!
I have another question. We are in the middle of winter here in NZ (mild fluctuating temperatures ranging between 41 and 60 fahrenheit) and our eggplant plant looks in great condition, but lots its flowers. We only got a few eggplants, as we planted it late. Is the plant useless, or can it remain in the ground until summer. We are going to install a small greenhouse soon, so could I pot then it to store in the greenhouse or indoors to plant again in summer? Thanks.
Eggplant is a perennial and will likely produce fruits next year, but it is more commonly grown to produce fruits as annuals. If you decided to keep the plants for next year, just keep in mind that the plants are alive and still need moderate watering. Thank you for visiting!
@@TowardGarden Thank you for taking the time to reply. There is hope then, so I’ll probably cover it with frost cloth when it gets colder.
Great Eggplant 🍆 video! Thanks. I am to Fertilize it every 4 weeks. With what??
I used organic vegetable 3-4-4 fertilizer. You can use any organic balanced fertilizer like 5-5-5, 10-10-10, or any organic tomato fertilizer too. Thank you very much for your comment!

After you harvest, do you have to re do all the procedure for another harvest?
You will be able to pick fruits for few weeks. After final harvest, and although eggplants are perennials and can come back next year, it is more common to grow them as annuals. I usually start them from seed each year. Thank you for your comment!
What should you fertalise with? Seasol?
I usually feed with any tomato fertilizer or 3-4-4 organic one. But Seasol is a great choice too. Thanks for visiting.
Do you take any side shoots like tomato plant or just let it grow..
I have done it but usually not. By the time the side shoots will be ready for planting, the growing season is usually over and I haven't had good results planting them late in thee season. Thanks for visiting.
Do I have to leave the seeds/plant indoor or outdoor ? Because i live in a very cold climates
Generally you would transplant seedlings when night temperature reaches above 55 F (13 C). Eggplants would struggle in temperatures below this, so if you have a very cold climate, time your sowing to start indoors 6-8 weeks before this temperature. And make sure to provide as strong light source for seedlings. I hope this helps and thank you very much for visiting!
So what do you do to the plants after you harvest your fruit? do you throw them away , or do they keep producing more fruit
You may be able to pick fruits for few weeks. For eggplants, once done with the harvesting, the plants go to my compost bin. I prefer to start over from seed on the next growing season. Thanks for visiting!
After you’ve harvested will more eggplant grow back?
You can keep harvesting for few weeks. Keep picking fruits for longer productivity. Thanks for visiting!
Hi, I am going to try this coming up this season. May I ask how big are the containers please? They look like 10 Gallons ?
Hi, these are 5 and 7 gallon bags (check video @ 4:03). Thank you for visiting!
@@TowardGarden can I use 1 gallon only? Or not possible?
@@mdnaiad03 1 gallon grow bag is too small. Your plants/fruits won't grow and develop and to their best. Thanks for visiting!
@@TowardGarden Love all of your videos. Nice and easy and relaxing. Do you prune the plants at all ? They all look so neat and well mannered :) . Also, do you happen to remember the eggplant type you were growing?
@@NatureLover-ss4ef These are "Long purple" variety. I usually don't prune my plants, only pick wilted leaves here and there if I see them. Thank you very much for your comment!
Thank you so much for sharing this. This is the first year that I caught the garden bug and I have one lone eggplant that appears to be growing very nicely. However, I have two questions for you please : what are the clips that you put around the stake and plant, and what is the best time to start growing eggplant seeds. Thank you in advance.
Sounds wonderful! The clips are called tomato trellis clips and are available online on amazon. Usually eggplants can be started indoors Feb-Mar to be transplanted in Apr-Jun. If you have a mild winter, you may start mid summer to harvest in fall. Thank you so much for your comment!
How long does it take for eggplant to grow to yield fruits? Thanks I see it on the video
Glad you found your answer from video. thanks for visiting.
Did you sift your grow media to make it less chunky for seedlings?

how do you know when they are ready to be harvest, ,mine are purple from little
They might grow to different sizes but usually eggplants are ready to pick when they are firm/soft and not very hard. You may also try picking one to see if they are ready or not. Thanks for visiting.
Hello, Not sure if You well see this but What size grow bags are those?
Hello, They are 5 and 7 gallon grow bags (check video @ 4:01 min). Thanks for visiting.
You don't pot up before going to the 5 gallon? And you just used an npk fertilizer?
I only pricked out once into 4 in pots and then transplanted in 5 gallon bags. The fertilizer used is organic vegetable 3-4-4 NPK fertilizer with 5% calcium. Thanks for visiting.
@@TowardGarden The reason I asked was because I was worried I did the wrong thing. Your plants look great! Thanks for the info
@@persadsanjay Thanks for the comment!
How often do you water them when you are just starting off the seeds up until they grow big enough to put in grow bags, daily? Every few days?
You want to keep the seed mix moist, but definitely not soggy (not overwatering). As soon as you notice the top layer of the soil is getting dry, it is time to water. If the temperature is not very hot, usually it will need light watering every 2-3 days or twice a week before seeds germinate. Happy growing and thank you for visiting!
@@TowardGarden thank you!!
Do you ever have to prune any leaves?
I usually don't, but if you see that plants grow plenty of leaves, special when fruits are setting, you can trim starting from lower leaves. Thank you for visiting!
handle by leaf? interesting. What is the final bag size?
The bags are 5 and 7 gallon grow bags (check video @ 4:01 min). Thanks for visiting.
What kind of soil mixture could that be?
You can check the video @ 3:54 for the mix I used for soil. Thank you for visiting!
Is this a nursery enclosed garden? How do u keep in sects and snails from eating everything? I cant grow anything without alot of poison
No, I don't have any green house or enclosed garden. Preventing is the best to control pest. I check my plants daily and with the first sign of pest present I use the appropriate pesticide, usually neem oil or spinosad mix. For snails I have my pots above ground on pallets which helps a lot. Other great option is to sprinkle food grade DE Diatomaceous earth around plants which is also organic. Hope this helps and thanks for visiting!
What is complete fertilizer. 10-10-10?
Complete fertilizer has all three N-P-K elements plus calcium which is critical for plants in containers. It can have balanced ratio as you said like 10-10-10, or usually for fruit vegetables with a higher ratio of P, K. I usually use 3-4-4. Thank you for getting in touch.
What size grow bag?
As mentioned in the video, these are 5 and 7 gallon bags. Thank you for visiting!
What do you use to feed them ?
I used organic vegetable 3-4-4 fertilizer with 5% calcium. You can use any organic balanced fertilizer like 5-5-5, 10-10-10, or any organic tomato fertilizer too. Thank you for visiting!
I’ve grown Ping Tung eggplant and am considering Long Purple. Is LP a stubbier and more prolific variety? Cheers!
I have grown Ping Tung (will post a video) and would say that it is more prolific than Long purple eggplants. But the fruits (long purple) might be on larger size comparing to Ping Tung variety though. Thanks for getting in touch.
@@TowardGarden I’d prefer a little larger sized eggplant that we could use for baking and not just for stir frying. I grew the Ping Tung before and it wasn’t as prolific as I had hoped but could have been due to our hot desert summer. Thanks for the reply!
@@archstanton9703 Understood. Thanks for sharing.
@@TowardGarden I subscribed to your channel and will check out the videos for tips. Cheers!

are you using fertilizers when seeding if so why?
I usually do not fertilize seedlings, the compost added to the seed mix at the time of pricking out will feed the seedlings. But if you want to fertilize, use diluted fish fertilizers (5-1-1) at half of the suggested rate (1/2 Tbsp per gallon). You can start fertilizing when you have 3-4 true leaves weekly. Thank you for getting in touch.
What fertilizer did you use?
I used 3-4-4 organic vegetable fertilizer. Thanks for visiting.
will the plant keep on growing eggplants after harvesting, or will it die eventually after harvest?
You can pick eggplants for few weeks. Eggplants are perennials and they can come back next year, but are more commonly grown to produce fruits as an annuals. Thank you for visiting!
Do you sow it in direct sunlight?
I don't sow seeds in direct sun. The seeds can be started in part shade. But the seedlings are planted in pots in full sun. Thanks for visiting.
Can you grow these indoors inside an apartment
If you can control temperature (about 70 F) and more importantly provide enough light (6-8 hrs. of sunlight or use grow lights), yes it is possible. Thanks for visiting!
