  • Welcome to my channel
    In this video I will be restoring a vintage Wesco oiler. I had no intention of restoring this oiler until I saw how amazing other youtubers restorations turned out. I tried my best to keep the oiler close to original. As I started cleaning I saw residue of the old paint. It looked like a dark copper like paint. I started looking for a match and my first purchase had way too much metallic flake therefore I had to continue my search until I found another paint by rustoleum. It was exactly what Imagined.
    I hope you enjoy the video
    Thanks for reading and watching.

    Very nice restoration. Good idea using recycled leather for the seals.

    I love the fact that you did your homework for the colors.
    Plus from a $.50 oil can, to a &5.00 oil can. Sweet.

    Wow, that came out really well. Most Westco’s were red but I like your colour choice it really suits it. I have an identical oil can that I bought to restore so you have made me want to get into it. A couple of suggestions, use your punches on a piece of wood and the edge will last a lot longer. Next time you have to solder a joint like that, after you have applied the flux and rejoined the two pieces use some thinners to wipe off the excess flux before soldering and that will stop any extra solder from sticking around the outside of the joint. Might have been good to panel beat the bottom of the can when it was apart. Please don’t take that as criticism as I loved the whole video just some ideas to maybe consider next time. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

    Why ruining your pipe punches using metal as bottom surface? Why not try wood, plastic or leather? It will save the pipe punches and it will definitely give you a better result.

      @@mytinyworkshop1213 Just has to be a glitch in teh system when uploading. Still watchable though. I have watched it on my laptop and my phone and it is there. , but if you are watching the original on your phone, and no problem, it shws a glitch when upload happened.

    • @mytinyworkshop1213
      @mytinyworkshop1213  4 роки тому +3

      Yeh it is some sort off glitch. I watch the video multiple times before uploading and no issue. Its actually quite annoying. I’ll try figure out what is causing this in order to prevent it next time.

    Nice vid and a sub from me. Just recently picked up a wesco oil can. Can't wait to get stuck in. I just did my first restoration video on a parkinsons vise a few weeks back. Check it out.

    Do you ever anneal the metals you use? Then, heat/cool them for hardening?

    The bearing is supposed to be at the bottom of the brass tube with the spring on it. It is a one way valve. Looks like it has been repaired a couple of times in its past. The top brass tube is supposed to come out, but it is soldered in.

      That wrench is amazing.
      I found it at a boot sale at the bottom of a rusty tool bin. Paid £3. It has a really tight grip. I sadly don’t have any more information on it.
