Vintage Salter Scale Restoration

- In this video i will be restoring a vintage scale made by Salter. I acquired this from a gentleman that remembered his mother using it on their farm to weight the turkeys.
As you will see the most tiresome part was sanding all the pitting. This took me about 4 hours to complete.
I hope you enjoy the video

Exceptional work, particularly on the pitted metal.
Really awesome work. Watching all of your other videos right now. I think what sets you apart from other restoration channels is your attention to detail. Keep it up!
Thank you very much. I’m trying to get better with each video.
What about calibration?
Tip: To get into places like those springs (if you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner), use shotgun cleaning brushes. They come in nylon, bronze and stainless steel. 16 or 20 gauge looks like they would be good for those springs.
Nice restoration!
Thanks for the tip
Nice! Amazing work on that dial!
Thank you very much
Got one of these at an auto jumble. I like the needle zeroing adjuster.
It’s an amazing tool.
That's very cool bro, great job.
Fantastic job looks fantastic thanks for sharing great video 🍺🍺👍👍👍👍👍
What was the date on the lead weights and measures seal?
Really nice job, lots of effort paid off amazingly. May be a stupid question, but was the original colour dark blue or does that paint stripper always turn that colour?
The original was black. I was surprised to see it turn blue.
i like restoration videos subscribe and thumbs up for you

Great work, especially on that pitted metal.
I would suggest, however, that you do a pH test on that vinegar, since it doesn't seem to be doing a very good job. Keep in mind that the reaction doesn't just remove rust; it turns the "vinegar" into water with an iron acetate salt suspension.
If you're interested, the reaction is 3CH3COOH+FeOOH⟶Fe(CH3COO)3+2H2O
The vinegar is working fine. It doesn’t remove the rust it loosens it.
Really nice job, love how you brought it back to life, thanks for sharing!
Sand blasting and good thickness of paint would have saved a lot of labour. Nice job though.
Super tare
There was a 2 second time delay between the audio and visual in this video - had to mute it as it sounded too weird for me 🤨 😣
Thanks for letting me know. I don’t understand what is going on.
😀😉
yeah i picked up on that too, the audio is out of sync with the video, it was like the audio was 2 seconds ahead of the video
Hi bro 👋👋👋 very good restoration scale 👍👍👍🔥💣 I admire your work and the new video 🤝👌🏽
Just bought the same one a few days ago a long with another slightly newer one for £30 both in bad shape but all there.
I will not go to full restro but like the info for when i start to revamp them.
Enjoy your restoration.
GREAT JOB!!! beautiful restoration.!
Thank you
Thumbs up over here👍👍👍!!!
Thanks🙏!
great work! turned out nice, i like how the brass polished up. i smashed that Like button!
Very nice. But I also have to ask: What about the calibration?
Thank you, sadly I didn’t add that bit. Iv learnt my lesson now.
Garrus -“Did someone say Calibrations?”
Why remove the original paint? It looked to be in good contition and didn't come off on the wire wheel.
Original Paint is always worth more.
Steve Huffman I seem to recall that these scales (often used for weighing meat) were japanned rather than painted.
It really came out well ... taking the extra time to deal with the pitting really makes a huge impact on the final outcome. Excellent work as usual.
Cheers!
Thanks very much.
Hahaha gloves shit
The pitted part on the measuring plate is completely gone! AMAZING work!
Thank you very much
Wow, that was impressive! Great restoration. Really enjoyed your video.
Thank you, glad you liked it
Oh yeah, very nice. 👌
I love that you told how long it took. Gives us an idea of exactly what went into it. Thanks.
Thank you, I’m glad you appreciate the work
You really "pounded" out those dents ;)
I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Super nice work sir.
Thank you very much
Nice fix of the dent
Thank you very much
Your restoration work was perfect congratulations
What a handsome scale now. Great restore!
Nice restoration. Did you calibrate it?
101 years old item... Now like new...
Nice RESTORATION 👍
Nice job of getting that dent out.
Thank you very much. I was surprised with the outcome myself.
There is no means to calibrate that model. Springs are made to a specific strength and that's it.
Gorgeous job 👍🏻👍🏻
Muito top 🇧🇷
