I am a frequent "park n sleep anywhere" traveller n camper. Strongly support all the 10tips n considerations. I am here propose to add two more tips:
    (11) At non guarded public places, do park ur vehicle n sleep as u r driving, don't hang too many things outside. All these external items such as opened roof tents, external belongings, floor camps n etc will pull u back from immediate escaping during emergency.
    (12) Campervan equipped with obvious outlook may attract "special intention people" to visit u when park alone, thus come with a group or select a paid campsite.
At non guarded area, vehicle with original (low profile, normal) outlook always safer, since no body notice there r strange travellers sleeping inside.

Having dogs is the biggest advantage in term of safety since you already have them. For others, probably it is not convenient to have them along in the limited space of vehicle. When I drive alone and zzz in my mirage from KL to Udon Thani I always park beside 7 eleven, 24 hours operation. Safe. To get a shower, i just stop at public toilet which is clean. It was an amazing experience where people were crazy about your way of traveling, met so many new friends along the trip. Great sharing from you guys though. Hope to meet you guys in person one day.

Shawn Yap I heard that there's a time limit for R&R at toll roads. Wonder how many hours they allow and whether they charge if we exit the toll hours later than we suppose to.

Pepper spray nmay not be ideal. Studies show that people who are pepper sprayed will react violently usually they will swing and punch their fists as they panic. Many women who used pepper spray were usually beaten by their blind assailants regardless. Best to give up your valuables if thye threaten you.
