8.6 Blackout :)
This looks like a great series. I contemplated building an AR-10, after reading about the Armilite .260 rifle, but uncertainty of parts availability and compatibility killed my interest. Eventually, I decided to go the AR-15 route, only to learn Barrett Arms was designing and preparing to build quality AR-10s for the military. As everyone knows, Barrett builds great rifles. I hope to someday field an AR-10 for hunting. Until then, I'll just have to be satisfied with reading about them. Thank you for sharing this series!
Thanks - another great series chock full of good info. My last build before our state's AWB went into effect was an Aero Enhanced (internal) AR-10 with Wilson Barrel and BCG. Only issue was feed ramps on barrel extension sticking out past receiver feed ramps. Runs fine, but I'd like to try other part combos. Unfortunately, now we can't even buy replacement parts here!
The pain/struggle is REAL folks! ^^ Thanks for coming along on this journey too. So much lost/poor information out there, we're over-the-moon to continually hear how these videos are helping folks. They sure are helping us as we make them! -Randy
Good Video dude.
Building an AR-10 from Scratch for starters ends up throwing people into a rabbithole... Like you said. Mostly because it have something to do in noticing the differences between AR-10 Pattern vs Aero Precision/DPMS LR308 pattern
It's understandable why it's quite common to see LR308 / DPMS Gen II / PSA Gen III getting built from scratch and AR-10 pattern rifles being the option for those who wants to buy a complete rifle from the get-go in case of a better financial condition.
On AR-10 Pattern (and even that some of these brands does their own stuff, it's quite the niche):
- ArmaLite
- KAC
- LMT Defense
- Diamondback Firearms
- LWRCI
- STAG Arms
- Daniel Defense
- LaRue Tactical
Awesome addition. Thanks for chipping in!
Thanks for giving PSA a mention. I have one no complaints, Especially when it was a sub 1K price but that was five years ago.
Just as you did at your previous employer, providing a wealth of knowledge!!
Absolutely. I figured I'm not the only one who followed Randy here
Awww, you guys are the best! 😅 No really, I really do appreciate the support! -Randy
@At3tactical you bring a great personality for informational videos to either hobby. Funny timing with this video as I finally took my new ar10 build to the range this week. Stuck with aero precision for everything but the barrel. Did Wilson combat super sniper, 308 win
6:15 The prevalence of the LR-308 platform is why I decided to go with a DPMS lower. Also the G2 would look nice with a fixed buttstock like the one depicted on the LR-308 in the diagram as well as an integrated A2 carry handle-style upper
Had been looking at DPMS lowers, then found a great deal on a Diamondback (Armalite cut) then I learned the difference. I've gone on to build an extra 6.5 upper, and then bought everything for a complete other build. Just about everything came from Diamondback, which actually has some really good prices on components.
Great info!
A prime example here folks, pay attention! ^^^
??? not sure about this.....DPMS 308 IS NOT share parts together with AR10 Amalite because 1 is Mil Spec and the other is Commercial using for Civilian like us????? NOT SURE about this statement because I hear from a guy at shooting range in Arizona ??????
@@ThepDenNgoaiBien A lot of the high end builders use a variation of the SR-25/Armalite slant cut pattern; Knights, LMT, KAK, Seekins, LWRC, Stag are some that come to mind. But different companies do different things. So since I started with a Diamondback, I decided to stay with them for subsequent builds; components are nice, as is their pricing and they have top notch customer service. 2-308s & 2-6.5cm, so far...
Besides the difference of Armalite and DPMS receiver differences, there are DPMS Low and DPMS High uppers that use different handguards. I've also run into diferent barrel nut threads on the Armalite uppers.
Absolutely! I had that in here, but cut it out of this one for the sake of clarity. I don't doubt we'll cover this in the episodes to come!
Another difference is where the buffer tube mount attaches to the lower receiver.
Man i spent over 5 k on my last 308 dpms build, got it to 5.8 lbs without the scope and suppressor. Built on a Roam rifles receiver set and smoke composites furniture, with a titanium bcg, and BSF carbon fiber wrapped barrel.
I also did a build around a BSF carbon barrel but in 6.5 CM. I was also shooting for a lite build. My problem was that it was 2020 when it was challenging to find anything. With a 22 inch barrel I came in at just under 7 pounds.
pretty sure my upper weighs more than that without a bcg
Dude, you have great content. Thanks
Thanks!
Hey turns out we test our builds at the same range! Just purchased a couple things from you as well!
Good stuff!
Great info, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Bro it’s randy from brs! Nice to see ya man
Hey hey!
From brstv Randy to at3 tactical Randy! Lets go😂
Absolutely
To further muddy the waters you did not mention the "Mutant "Ar action that GMMG makes because the 7.62mm X 39 mm bolts use a Ar 10 Dia bolt , but the carrieris are intermediate length BGG. Not as long as a Ar 15 but shorter than a AR10..
Bought a magpull dpms lite stock for my dpms dosen't fit
could we still standardize the AR-10? or is it too late for that
Why didn’t you do a video of accuracy on the aero build?
I prefer the use of SAR vs AR as it defines the true function of the firearm as a Semi Automatic Rifle.
AR does not stand for automatic rifle
That doesn't remotely make sense, SAR (Singapore Assault Rifle) AR (Armalite Rifle). So, how does that define the true function of the firearm when both abriviations denote manufacturer or location of where the Rifle was made. Unless we're being too damn lazy to say semi-auto or full auto and trying to reuse abbreviations to confuse already uneducated folks like yourself.
AR15: FUN. AR10 WAY more FUNNEREST!
Damn Straight!
Is that AR10 some parts called Commercial gun parts and the other call Government Mil Spec part and...THEN GUN WITH MIL SPEC is more value?? IS that true? THANK YOU EXPERT!
So, before being educated, I bought a Diamondback DB10 which has the Armalite cut. It's been great, so as I was already on board, I bought everything from Diamondback to build a 6.5 creedmoor.
Still in service today?!
@@At3tactical DB10 308, yes! I actually just picked up the 6.5 barreled upper to take to work with me tonight. I'm going to true the receiver extension, dimple the barrel, and do the final assembly. Off 4 days next week I hope to have everything sighted in! I have Surefire Warcomps on all my ARs, muzzle brakes on my bolt actions. Even though I already had a Warcomp for this 6.5, I have another SFMB on the way for it.
Will a M16 A1 trigger work on a AR10
Not sure how many folks have a true M16A1 spare trigger assembly around, or who might want to remove theirs from a little piece of history. But, in terms of today's "MilSpec" triggers and fitment with AR-15/AR-10 ... the vast majority WILL be compatible. That is one part where the AR10 Lower manufacturer's ensured were cut to "tolerance"... not ALL will be a perfect fit, but yes...even today's standard "MilSpec" single stage trigger should definitely fit today's AR-10 lowers.
So i have an aero ar 10/ m5 coming minus their bcg bc they are sold out, and who knows how long that will be!? Should i wait for one of the aero bcg to come into stock or what? Thank you
I will ask our Team. I feel your pain.
@At3tactical ok thank you, just wondering if that's my best option for fitment and reliability or if there are better options around that price or even higher priced, that will fit just as well. Thanks again, I just don't have the knowledge or experience and could use some help.
I had no wrong parts. I bought A dpms lr308 receiver group.
A BA barrel 18" mid gas
A BA bcg
A BA breech charging handle
A utg 17" slim M lock free float
A utg grip
A utg recon 360 bipod
A utg set of 34mm scope rings
A cmmg mag release
A cmmg bcg release
A cmmg safety selector
A cmc 2.5 lb flat trigger group
A MI 308 muzzle break
A Odin works adj gas block
A Odin wks mid gas tube
A Odin wks adj buffer weight
A JP tensioning takedown pins
A Arken ep5 5x25x56
And A ruger RPR but stock.
Lots of tolletence stacking but my base receiver set was the standard by which all LR308 parts are made.
Ps 6.5 is on average 100 fps faster than a 308 I hand load both
Nice parts list.
Now to confuse things even more we have POF Rogue/Revolution & Ruger SFAR...
I WISH I WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE.... I bought a Noreen AR 10 lower. I thougth they were mil spec and I could just throw a PSA on top... easy cheesy. The lower is suppose to be a LR-308 DPMS compatable... and the PSA might be the same but the lower does look different. At least it was only 90 bucks. Still, it's going to grive me crazy knowing I have it... just sitting there. Any idea?
Buy a Noreen upper to go with your lower or a PSA lower to go with the upper. It's best to match upper and lower from the same company.
Hi, I am exhausted in the research on what complete .308 upper would fit my DPMS lower "low" profile? Can Anyone offer a solid answer TIA
Any dpms style upper should work with a dpms lower. The high vs low profile is referencing the height of the tab above the charging handle and pertains to which handguard you use. Dpms high with dpms high compatible handguard and low with low handguard. You're better matching your upper receiver with whatever brand your lower is.
May seem random but what’s the size of that workbench table top ?
Haha! No problem, that table is 6ft by 29.5" inches. Some Craigslist find we scored for $5 bucks!
Is Palmetto PA-10 is DPMS L308?
Sometimes, depends on the part
Great potential friend. Please keep the language clean for more subscribers. Thanks a lot. SC Navy vet. 1965. 🇺🇸😊
Thank you, Sir! Glad you are enjoying them. I will definitely be more mindful of the fouler language. 👍 🤐 -Randy
Radical Firearms makes great ARs and uppers imo, sub $500 where you look
The pin variants is one of the most annoying factors - even between different manufacturers.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
FYI its 223 remington not winchester
Good catch👍
4 me.....DPMS with JP parts.
Just get sfar
Ohh, we are bringing those in house here very shortly. Can't wait to get out and exercise it.
He's hott 🔥
