- Hi,
if you tumble dryer drum does not turn and it's not a broken belt, if the motor just hums, replace the start capacitor.
This model Hotpoint had an 8uf, yours maybe different.
Ordered the part now hopefully it will be here in 4 days and it cures the problem, many thanks for the time it took you to do the video, cheers
thanks for this video, had the same problem with Candy condensing dryer. Got the capacitor for £5.20. A bit harder to get to it but managed to change it one handed !! You saved me about £100 for a repair call out. You are the Man 🔧 😀
Thank you kind sir, I'm pleased the video helped.
I just want to tell you, that because of this video - my dryer is saved, my days are saved, wallet - saved. And mostly my mental health. You should get some prize for this advice ❤ greetings from Sweden.
Thank you kindly Angelike, a beautiful message; it makes the effort worth every minute.
Good evening from England.😁
Thanks for this John, My tuble dryer was doing this and i was going to just buy a new tumble dryer but this video exactly described the problem. Well done sir. I have a Candy GOC580c which was a pain to even find the capacitor and not much info online so i plan to do a youtube video on how to locate it.

Excellent news Chris, I'm pleased the video helped
Fantastic! Thanks, this just saved a 30yr old dryer from the landfill, all for the sake of £4.50 - I just wish ours had been as simple to get into the guts of!
You're welcome!
Superb - thanks so much for this John. I was about to buy a new tumble dryer for £300 when I decided to do a UA-cam search and found your video. The new Zanussi capacitor cost me under £10 from Amazon. I've tried donating to your Paypal but the link doesn't work. Also I've just noticed this video is almost 10 years old - but still very helpful 😀
Thank you kind sir, I'm pleased the video helped.
hi john....cheers saved me buying a new dryer.....was exactly as you describe...👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Excellent news, thanks for the comment.
Thanks for this mate, got it spinning again. FYI for anyone watching though it might be worth ordering a (quick shot stat) also when doing this repair. Mine blew (acts like a fuse) as the element overheated all of a sudden when the motor stopped spinning the fans. This can’t be reset, mine was blowing cold air until it changed this too. 👍👍
Hi my dryer not spinner when press start makes a noise, we got new pump but still not working
Thanks mate just saved me a small fortune, advice was spot on.
Great to hear!
Tank You John , got the same dryer ..... same issue .... :D
Excellent
@@JohnB-2021 can you please do some videos of this dryer please
This dryer is long gone, I showed how to fix it because this one was broken.
It was my partners dryer, not mine.
Very helpful. Thanks
Steve Litchfield Thank you
Nice same as my model 7 kg condenser
Thanks a lot I’ll give it a try , my daughters dryer has stopped turning
Fingers crossed.
thank you very much very useful
Thank you
Frigidare dryer same problem however if I give it a little boost by hand it does turn so I assume the starter capacitor is bad is there a part number?
Djmax 200 Just look it up on ebay, any cap of the right size will do.
Hi, thanks so much for the video. I have a LG TD-C902H Dryer and seem to be having this problem. There was an electronic burning smell and I'm wondering if the burning smell is consistent with this issue before I go and buy the capacitor.
I've pulled it apart and noticed it does spin intermittently, but it does take very little force to stop the drum from spinning and then it just hums. Once it starts spinning, it seems to have plenty of force behind it and I was unable to stop it.
It's definitely not the belt slipping or bearings in the drum or anything like that.
It does sound like the start capacitor could suspect, they are cheap enough to rule out of the equation.
Thank you
Thanks for confirming. I have already ordered one and hope that's all it is.
great video, my tumble dryer motor works ok but the belt is not moving, looks like a little black wheel (which i can see in your video) is very loose and looks as though somethings broken off it, any advice would be great, thanks
tensioner. check the tensioner wheel.
What if the drum rubs against the black stopper knob on the back?
thanks john off to my local electrical parts shop tomorrow ;) given my unit runs perfectly if I push the drum along otherewise it just humms and does nothing sounds all to familiar watching your video so fingers crossed
Sounds like you have it sorted.
Thank you for your comments.
@@JohnB-2021 put the new part in today and it works perfect now :) super easy fix! thank you again!
@@-Ride4U Excellent news, I'm pleased you got it sorted.
Great video this must be the issue with mine. Thanks!
Thank you too, you're welcome.
Excellent I was ready to Buy a new motor until I watched this video 😃👍
Thank you for your comments
Ge belt was briken. I bought a belt hopefully the right one. Empty the drum spins, two pair of jeans will not spin. I saw belt moving but not the drum. When drum spins the fan spins.
I’ve a Beko dryer and the drum wasn’t turning until I pushed ever so slightly on it then it worked no problem so I’m guessing a lubricant problem so going to try wd40 if not then I will change the capacitor cheap fix whatever anyway thanks for the vid. Too many throw away and buy a new mentality these days.....
Hi,
Thanks for the comments, probably the cap.
Hiya, if anyone has any advice on this it would be greatly appreciated...
I have an indesit tumble dryer.
The drum wasn't spinning the belt is fine although it had slipped off the pully wheel I've changed the pully wheel. Still having the same issue. The belt isn't loose at all and it's a bigger to get over that wheel.
It's driving me crazy!
Thank you
Hi Rebecca, so you fitted a new pulley and refitted the belt and it fell off again?
The bearing at the back of the drier does wear out too, it is also cheap to replace.
The whole drum turns / spins on one pin.
Many thanks 🙏🏽
You are very welcome
I have just replaced the belt on my indesit condenser dryer. The drum is spinning but then all lights come on. It keeps turning but does not seem to go into reverse - any suggestions?
Sounds like a relay in the control unit
I have a Kenmore elite that is humming when you cut on not spinning belt is still in the tact. When u manually spin the big part the motor turns but when u make motor turn manually big part doesn't.
If the motor spins when it should and the drum does not, you have a tensioner problem.
If the motor does not spin, you need to check the start capacitor
What would you do about a tensioner problem?
How do you take the electrical panel off on the left of the motor????
What causes an Electrolux dyer to not stop spinning when the door is shut? It continuously spins in one direction even though the cycle has ended. Is the main control board on its way out? Also when it does spin the other way it does so violently, not stopping to spin the other direction just instantly goes the other way.
Yep, sounds like the control board is shot.
@@JohnB-2021 Ah damn, was hoping it was something cheaper to fix haha. Its corrected itself again and working normally but probably should start saving up for a new bored before it completely fails haha
Alright. I have an Indesit tumble dryer which had the belt snapped. Replaced the belt and still not spinning. If I manually help the drum a bit it spins so I thought it is the capacitor. Ordered a new one today. Replaced it and it is the same issue. The drum does not seem to have any spinning resistance whatsoever.
Any advice please?
@@stratysymo sounds like the control unit then.
Hi I have same issue iv tested the capacitor it's showing ok
Order a new one to be on save side
What was your problem after you fitted new capacitor
Cheers Graham
The electrics panel at the front hiding the fan cover how do you remove it please ?
It can't be that difficult can it?
Just some screws somewhere.
Mine struggles to start and can only spin small amounts of wet clothes, if it struggles to spin for too long it smokes. Motor and capacitor ?
Changed but won't spin. But when push drum will start and spin fine till next stop ???
my dryer heats up but won't spin I check the belt and it's okay I check the motor and it spin freely so that means it's nothing stuck to it I clean out the vent but it won't spin can somebody tell me anything
Yes watch the video
@@JohnB-2021 best comment 😂😂😂
I have a zanussi zdc 67550w it has 2 two stsrt capacitors a 6uf and a 2uf
I tested them the 6uf was bad i replaced it with a generic 6uf 475v start capacitor its now turning but still can randomly start motor humming and struggling to spin then stops with red led flashing fault
Do you think the motor is also on its way out ?
I doubt the motor is faulty.
Alright mate, I got an AEG Tumble dryer, drum not spinning. Any ideas ? Don't wanna waste money on something I might not need.
Hi,would this apply to my hotpoint machine if it’s only turning one way..thanks
I don’t think so
@@JohnB-2021 okay cool 👍
At first my tumble dry was broken belt but it I bought the belt and I put it back but now the motor it's not running how can I fix that problem
Maybe it's the capacitor
@@JohnB-2021 that for your help it's now fine
@@kennethmaulana770 did a new capacitor fix it?? Im having the same issue with mine after just fixing a new belt!
@@ItsTrinity88 look at the video
@@kellyhaywood794 Wow thx for that very helpful advice. I hadnt thought of that 😑 read what i wrote and you'll realise the answer aint in the video
Hi, I turn mine on and nothing happens. I spin the drum manually and start, it works. Does this sound like a start capacitor?
Yes.
@@JohnB-2021 great, thanks for the help. Does the capacitor stop electric?
This dryer doesnot have capacitor
Well it won't be that then.
