  • If the dryer motor hums and dryer will not start, then this video will help fix the problem.
Before you do the operation, as shown in the video, you must first all be cleaned completely in a vacuum dryer.
If this video does not work, replace the motor.

Thanks for taking the time and uploading the video! Simple fix! I would recommend anyone that is planning to do this try and find out how to disassemble the dryer the proper way I ended trying to take the backside off. But the easiest way is to remove the door side to gain access to the motor

My guess - the moving centrifugal start switch on the motor is stuck (from lint in the old grease? no grease?) in position so the start windings are not being energized. Sunny is freeing up that switch and relubricating it. I like the idea of a dry lubricant so lint won't get stuck there again.

That is the centrifugal switch. Not sure why greasing it helped. Looks like it would have started up anyway but but just run in the start windings until they burned out.
The switch lets the motor start on the start windings then slides back as the motor reaches speed and switches to run windings.
    Scratching my head in this.
But hey, it seemed to have worked.
Maybe some of f the grease got in the motor bearing/ bushing and that solved the problem.

I just did this repair to my dryer. Many thanks to Sunny!
One tip: I don't recommend using the white lithium grease as shown in the video. Grease will attract and stick dust/lint. Instead, I used compressed air @120psi to thoroughly clean all of the dust out the motor and it's start/run mechanism. (Vacuum the entire inside of the dryer first!) After just a good cleaning, the mechanism worked fine. I then followed up with a dry teflon spray lubricant that won't attract dust but will help keep things slippery as well as prevent dust from sticking on the mechanism again.

There is a mechanical disconnect that locks the motor output shaft. This video is showing us how to re-engage that mechanism. It’s a black plastic “widget” surrounding the shaft. The screwdriver is perfect tool to use while pushing it back into position. This happened to my Samsung dryer

White Lithium Grease is what he's using. Says "WL-8 ver10" on the tube. Probably better to use a graphite-silicone grease, rather than the lithium one, as there is so much dust in the environment...
Thank you, though, for the trick!

Yep it works if you lube it as shown. Just use a dry lube instead of grease or silicone. The lint won't stick then.

okay, so I tried that and it worked, but then when I reassembled the unit I forgot to take the drum belt from the holder and the machine was spinning just fine with the exception of the noise from the loose belt, so I went back in and placed the belt back on the pulley closed her up and back to square one with the hum on start but no start.

Can't believe someone posted greasing the centrifugal to fix a humming motor! Surely you don't do this for a living. Know anything about start windings? Motor switch?
Would never do this and expect a permanent fix.

Most of us are watching the video because we aren't appliance "service" people. Some of us are single mothers with no one to help and no $ to pay the Maytag Man to visit. (Maytag Man is a joke). So cut us a break too because we kind of don't have a clue to what he's doing unless, like me, you watch 10 other videos and piece them all together. THEN I can tell what he's doing.
There's just no reason for a silent video. ? 99.99999% of the viewers don't expect silence. It's just weird. Not a big deal, just weird.
I just hope I fix my dyer.
