- Join us as we visit one of the most well known Japanese tuning companies from the golden years of JDM. Well know for their high response and balanced demo cars from popular Japanese media and Gran Turismo, the Skyline GT-R R32, 33, 34 , 35 and Lancer Evo V. A tuned car must be comfortable and easy to drive fast and confidently even if it is tuned for high power. Figures only tell half the story when it comes to control of a sports car. To corner, stop and accelerate with total balance with impressive performance bringing a smile and satisfaction to the owner. This is the essence and motto of Niikura san, the founder of MINE'S motor sport. We visit their garage in Yokusuka and have a chat with him about his philosophy and have a look around the shop at their tuning parts and goods. This is also the very place that the late Paul Walker of the 'Fast & Furious' franchise visited a few years ago.

In May 1985, Mine's was established as an exclusive motor sport tuning shop.
In February 1991, Mine's Wave Co., Ltd. was established.
Later in January 2004, it was incorporated as Mine's Co., Ltd.
We specialize in the development, manufacture, installation and sales of high performance automotive parts and engines.
Among our products is the VX-ROM, which is considered a pioneer in the field of engine management.
Our tuning philosophy is to focus on maximizing the balance of power, handling and braking whilst using our extensive experience and data to maintain reliability.
This lends itself to the spirit of car manufacturers in Europe.
Whilst some tuners pursue big power figures at the cost of drivability and reliability, we focus on the total driving experience and the harmonization between driver and machine in terms of acceleration, braking and cornering.
We believe it's the total balance of the car which brings the most enjoyment to the enthusiast.

I know I won't ever have enough time to visit all the places in Japan that I'd like to, so as a car enthusiast as well as someone that is fond of Japan and Japanese Culture/Ethics, I appreciate you bringing it to us.
Waiting for HKS tour and review. Tomei Powered, Nismo Omori Factory, Spoon Sports and Mine's Motor Sports Are all in my favorite tuners list all are legendary and unique.

I'm always impressed on how the shops actually look, always old buildings, with old interiors, but they let there work speak for them and don't try to impress others with fancy showrooms, gotta respect that. (reminds me of my home country)

Me and a mate did the japan trip and just rocked up in the week. We hung around the show room and had a staff member come ask where we were from (Australia) explained we traveled to look at our fave tuning shops. We then got a full factory tour and met the boss! They were so friendly and welcoming!! Was unreal!

I love the Mines cars & products, I had a R33 gtst about 18 years ago and across the bonnet it had the large "Mines" signature that had been clear coated over .
I later found out by the then owner that the ecu was mines also .
Visited the Mine's shop on a business trip in December 2011 and got a passenger ride in the R35 GTR as well with Niikura-san!
Car accelerated so fast that the toll-booth card got launched into the back seats where we couldn't reach it. He forgot his wallet in the shop so I had the honor of paying the toll for the car on the way back :D
Got invited to a tire-test the next day at Tsukuba to see the R34 in action, one of the best trips of my life, filled with those things that I will always remember and treasure!

Once again, thank you for taking us deeper into the JDM world. This was a yet another great episode! I have a lot of respect for the concept of balance as it applies to cars and motorcycles both. Speaking of balance, maybe in a future episode you could go into more detail regarding the balancing and blueprinting of engines as provided by outfits such as Mines and/or others.

I love that Mine's and Spoon are the leaders of tuning in Japan, but I put Mine's above because they make such radical and discreet preparations that it makes you become a professional driver when you sit behind the wheel of some of their Radical Skyline GTR and GTR R35, their phrase of "Total Balance" takes it to a level that very few companies in the world can match, excellent video and greetings from Venezuela

I remember when Mines came to Sema... but somehow their booth was like in the tools section and didn't have much attraction... they did bring their R35 gtr and allowed my wife to sit in and take an awesome picture!

I would have loved to get more details on how they approach Rb26 tuning in terms of turbo selection, camshafts, port work etc . Along with the blueprint bottom end etc..

@@scottjohnson7373 Hahaha I see your point. I don't really mind but my main concern was actually addressed in this video: People that buy Skylines and fill them with 1000hp. Happens in the UK a lot and it grinds my gears. Thus, the availability decreases, demand rises and the price becomes ridiculous for a model that hasn't been taken advantage of. Our main classifieds in the UK for cars is called 'AutoTrader' and on there is a Skyline R34 GTR V-Spec currently selling for 119K (GBP) or 16.2 million Yen(They claim it's 1 out of 80 UK spec model and in Lightning Yellow). To me, that price is crazy. To your point, I agree with you however if everyone is buying JDM cars and looking after them, sourcing quality OEM parts and catering to all aspects of the vehicle and not just performance, then I truly don't mind saving up my money to get something I can cherish and take care of.
@@conradbenjamin7739 Yeah i agree 100% the prices for 34gtr's is crazy and they aren't worth that kind of money, same goes for 32gtr's. Now i'm seeing it for toyota chasers which have shot up in price to ridiculous money. Yes a lot are thrashed and used for drifting but there is a hell of a lot of chasers around so they shouldn't be pushing such high prices for a car that's pretty much a taxi haha.

Great video, would have liked to know what Niikura san was saying, is it possible to place subtitles if the dialogue isnt too long? Otherwise we feel kinda left out during those portions of dialogue

Please do an Episode on the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo (1996 - 1999) and the Mitsubishi FTO Version R in Manual (1997 - 2000)!
Please do not overlook these two Japanese underrated Gems.
If this visit is fairly recent. Then for sure you won't see their R34 N1 demo car as it's being completely rebuilt at Garage Yoshida.
