Same here! That scene is just about perfect! It scared me as a kid but as an adult who LOVES movies, I'm able to really appreciate the Amazing acting and direction. Stop motion may be laughed at these days but it still seems more real than the CGI S*** in the remake.

Yup. The Harryhausen effects have far more personality than the most detailed CGI. I can totally look past the stop-motion effects without losing immersion in the story.

And pretty much anything made by Aardman Animation ("Wallace and Gromit", "Chicken Run", "The Pirates!") oozes with personality too.
Well, you probably "don't see any cheesy effects" in THIS movie because there AREN'T ANY IN IT!! THIS flick has GOOD effects. Better than those stupid computer simulations that you see in every other movie made nowadays for damn sure.

In 1983 our school took us to the movies to watch this as a treat at the end of the schoolyear. I was 8 year old, and when Kalibos appeared I was terrified. That face with the horns was too much for me, I covered my eyes and it took the teacher a lot of persuading for me to open them again. I was enthralled by the creatures, they were the coolest creatures I had ever seen. I had fo watch the rest of the movie with my hands over my face ready to hide it as soon as Kalibos appeared. God memories...

I don't remember this much from when it came out, but from these clips, it looks like we're seeing stop-motion at its finest, and it must make an amazing visual experience. I believe we've truly lost something in the decades since.
This movie remains uniquely special in my middle aged heart. And this video is a love letter that the movie deserves. I also still have broken tail Calibos, and Perseus. I wish that I had kept the Kraken and not lost track of Charron. All the ingredients of the mythology and Harryhausen’s craft and the actors and all of it are outstanding. As for my personal movie night experience, my mom had won our family the tickets off of Chicago radio station, WGN. And the movie played at the Nortown theatre, long since torn down. It was a beautiful 1920s movie house. Every aspect of clash of the titans was and is magical.
My mom raised me on all the Harryhausen movies, and all the campy fun movies. She wanted me to have a deep appreciation for adventure movies. I think she's the main reason I enjoy RPGs like D&D to this day.

The gentleman that played Calibos is buried in the town of Fordingbridge, Hampshire here in the UK, it is a few miles north of where I live. I was lucky enough to meet and get the Autograph of Ray Harryhausen a few years before he passed away. And FYI, Sian Phillips' first name is pronounced "Sharn" Great video, keep em coming!
That was the real clash of the Titans: the Titans of stage and screen. Olivier, Smith, Hamlin, Burgess vs Harryhausen. I recently watched this movie and fell in love with it again.
I just love this movie to no end. I even liked the liberties they took with the original myth to make a more contained and easy to follow. Every actor fit their role so well and Harryhausen's work was epic.
When I was a kid, my father had a vast library of VHS cassettes. I often was sickly and had to stay home from school and kindergarden. My mother was a housewife so she would look after me here and there, but she was also busy with work around the house. So she would often park me in front of the tv and I would watch more and more of the movies my father had on cassette. Apart from the original Star Wars trilogy, films like Clash of the Titans, Conan and Beastmaster were the movies I grew up with. They hold many fond memories for me and I love them to this day!

I did TONS of chores so that I would have money to get on the bus and ride into town and pay for my ticket to watch the film over and over! And when I didn’t have enough, I would sneak in just to watch it for the 40th time!! My favorite part is the Medusa sequence. It creeped me the hell out and fascinated me all at the same time! I couldn’t look away but was freaked out as well!! And after being beheaded, I couldn’t get over her body tipping over and leaking spaghetti sauce!!! Ray Harryhousin is a genius!!

This film is one of my childhood favorites. I was scared of Calbos and absolutely terrified of Medusa. To this day her scene is one the most chilling and suspense filled works of cinema. Clash of the Titans holds up well today. The Medusa segment still give me chills. The 2010 remake CGI creatures don't come close to the horror the 1981 stop motion creatures give me. It's sad that Jurassic Park killed off stop motion in 1993. It has become a novelty and no longer considered a top shelf Hollywood special effects method.

Still absolutely adore this film! Think it has such a nice blend of innocence, elegant dialogue delivered with authority and of course truly tremendous VFX❤ Surprisingly the book-of-the-film adaptation is actually pretty good too, you should read it if you’ve not already
This was one of many films from about 75 to 95 that I had the good fortune of viewing in some workprint form many weeks before its actual release. That is, these were pre-rating cuts that often had incomplete sound, editing, and effects, as well as temp soundtracks and no credits. The cut of TITANS I saw was about 80% complete. A few graphic scenes of violence were cut and Bowker's nude scene was toned down. I forget the tempt score, but I was thrilled to hear its actual score on opening night; the theatre where I viewed it sounded like a symphony orchestra was in the house. I was thrilled, too, to hear applause at the end from the audience. It is a truly beloved film.
My family had this on tape or something mid 80’s when I was a kid. Used to watch it regularly. Even back then I remember being like 8-10 and being smitten with Judi Bowker.

None other than Ray Bradbury has gone on record saying that Medusa was his friend's best creation, and I can totally understand why, as the confrontation and slaying of Medusa is my favorite part of the film - atmospheric, suspenseful and with a beautifully designed and animated Gorgon that still chills!

I laughed at that scene where Cassiopeia is officiating Andromeda's and Perseus' wedding and says that marriage or something or other is even more beautiful than Thetis herself, and Thetis gets PISSED and her statue's head starts talking mad smack, lol.
Neil McCarthy really was great, bringing humanity to Calibos. And I remember seeing a Kraken in a toy store. I really wanted it although I was disappointed in the lower half. Kind of wish I had it now.
I remember watching this on VHF/UHF when I was a kid. This film, Jason & the argonauts and other fantasy film similar to it, have always been my favorite. I was sad to see the mechanical owl left in a chest in the remake 😉

I was born in April of 1980, with two I lder brothers,so this film was around a lot. I have very vivid memories of this and the creatures within. Especially Medusa. It still takes me back there. Brilliant.
Ah! Clash of the Titans. The first movie I ever saw on the big screen at the tender young age of 6 (followed fairly closely by Raiders since I handed CotT so well). That was (still is!) a magical film. I had those toys (except the kraken which couldn't be found). This movie ignited my love of Greek mythology. The prologue and main theme (by Lawrence Rosenthal) is on my favorite movie music playlist. The 80s were a wonderful time to be a kid!
I was obsessed with all the Sinbad movies, Mysterious Island and Jason & the Argonauts growing up as a kid. Gotta say, Clash of the Titans was the epic cherry on top of the Ray Harryhausen cake!

RIP, Ray Harryhausen. He brought to life out favorite monsters and heroes spanning over 30 years on the big screen, from 1949-1981.
he died at the right time. A guy like that that lived in such a golden era would be sick to his stomach living today.

I laughed at that scene where Cassiopeia is officiating Andromeda's and Perseus' wedding and says that marriage or something or other is even more beautiful than Thetis herself, and Thetis gets PISSED and her statue's head starts talking mad smack, lol.

Neil McCarthy really was great, bringing humanity to Calibos. And I remember seeing a Kraken in a toy store. I really wanted it although I was disappointed in the lower half. Kind of wish I had it now.

My favorite movie from my childhood. But the skeleton Ferryman in the River Styx crossing scene gave me nightmares for years. I still watch this masterpiece once a year.

I was born in April of 1980, with two I lder brothers,so this film was around a lot. I have very vivid memories of this and the creatures within. Especially Medusa. It still takes me back there. Brilliant.
Ah! Clash of the Titans. The first movie I ever saw on the big screen at the tender young age of 6 (followed fairly closely by Raiders since I handed CotT so well). That was (still is!) a magical film. I had those toys (except the kraken which couldn't be found). This movie ignited my love of Greek mythology. The prologue and main theme (by Lawrence Rosenthal) is on my favorite movie music playlist.

I was obsessed with all the Sinbad movies, Mysterious Island and Jason & the Argonauts growing up as a kid. Gotta say, Clash of the Titans was the epic cherry on top of the Ray Harryhausen cake!
Same! I consider his Sinbad movies and inseparable trilogy and agree that Clash of the Titans is a fine film to end on.
