I feel like animators saying to vary the frame rate is highly misleading. Frame rate should nearly always be at 24fps as a video file for smooth film. How many UNIQUE DRAWINGS you do within those 24 frames per second is something entirely different. If you animate on 2's at 24fps that's still 24fps just each drawing is held for 2 frames rather than having 24 unique drawings. Same for 3's, 4's etc. I see people from all levels of animation expertise say "change the fps" or that animating on 2's equals "12fps" but it's not. It's still 24fps or whatever setting you set the playback rate to in the file.

Omggggg thank you so much because I knew something was off with the explanation because I've been experimenting with 12fps, 15fps and 24fps. Thank you soooo much this comment was needed.

@@sakareeh Basically animating on twos/2s means the image stays on screen for 2 frames adding up to 12 unique images per 24 frames. Animating on threes/3s means the image stays on the screen for 3 frames adding up to 8 unique images per 24 frames.

Hey @Kuzillon! Thank you so much for this tutorial! This made it very easy for me, a VERY new artist and animator, to understand how much work I need to do (how many pictures need to be drawn) vs. how much the frame rate is used to your advantage to manipulate the weight of the scene. I'll be watching a lot more of your stuff. 🙂

I've tried animating at 20 fps, and damn its so hard going from 14 to 20, I love the movements in 14 because it was a bit choppy, but it has enough smoothness in the frames to where it makes it satifying to watch, I'm only trying to force myself into animating within 20 frames due to collabs I'm joining requiring it

I’m trying to understand the concept of when things should go fast or when they go slow even with the frames per second I’m using ( I’m choosing 12)
Like I understand gravity but there’s still some parts I’m trying to understand.
Like that one other example with the explosion how many times does it have to play out or is all of this slow in and slow out or fast and slow.

I love to animate at 6-10 FPS. 10 isn't a factor of 24, which most animations use, but it is a factor of 30 and 60, which is how I personally do my pixel animations. Under factors of 60, I never do on ones (60fps) or on twos (30fps) and even threes (20fps) is pushing it for me. Fours (15fps), fives (the familiar 12fps that is on twos when under a factor of 24) and sixes (the aforementioned 10fps) are more like it for me.
