@@DarrenWS6 Awsome looking forward to it and ya it sounds nice! Right now I have a single tip exhaust so i need to get extra pipe and a y pipe to have a similar set up as yours!
With your specific setup, I knew it would sound awesome! I have the same 5.3 in my Envoy XL, and I'm looking for a similar sound but with a lower 'investment'. Power, MPG, and then sound are my priorities in that order, but at a relative budget. I'm leaning towards OBX long-tube headers (heat wrapped), 'catless', and magnaflow muffler on stock single exhaust. Your thoughts? I love your truck!
Don't know how often you change mufflers, but I have a suggestion. You should check out the Carven TR in the future, would be a cool video in my opinion.
@@erick._150 The TR is more raw sounding compared to the XR-1, which is more refined and deep. The XR-1 comes in two cases Oval and Round. The (40943) Oval is slightly louder with more rasp while the (40085) Round is deeper with almost no rasp. As for loudness, probably the Oval Borla but the Round for deeper. Borla definitely has a nice sound, but Carven has a better value and its own sound as well. Just depends what price and tone you're after.
I like this sound the best after watching tons of videos for these models! Just got an 04 Silverado 5.3 and looking to copy this. Just curious why you chose to go channel it to one muffler and not true duals. Would the sound or power change much at all? Thanks a ton for the help!
I feel true duals wasn't necessarily needed as the truck if at all was maybe putting 250hp to the wheels lol. It kept cost down and it made it one clear si gle tone. Dual mufflers without a cross over would have a more rumbled dual tone, and with a cross over, it might have less static pressure and no have a steady strong pulsation, being a tad quieter on low rpm pretty much.
Thanks! It will run without them, but it should be tuned to run properly as the PCM is tuned to have them. So now the CEL is on due to the deleting. Custom tune will eliminate the rear O2 monitoring and allow it to run more efficiently. My cats were clogging, mainly the passenger side. The catalyst broke apart. Because of the backup in flow I was getting 10/11mpg with it all last year and it felt like it was getting more and more quiet. Now its getting 13mpg with the longtubes and catless Y.
Hey man! Love the truck, I have a 2005 2500HD and I’m doing the EXACT same setup, only difference is I’m putting in an H-pipe, I like how you did the resonators because I HATE the sound of catless launches, they sound like a wet fart, so I was planning on having a true dual setup so no Y-pipe, how did you find those resonators? I’d rather do that than no cats, just wondering HOW you worked those in? Sorry that was a lot haha
DarrenWS6 what’s your thought bud? Got a 2017 Silverado 5.3 with long tubes single 3” y pipe high flow cats into borla xr1 dumped with a 6” tip. Sounds good but I’m thinking of taking cats off and replace with dyno max bullet minis lol will that help clean the sound a little you think? I just have problems with these cats they don’t hold up worth a crap. Bullets are straight through as well.
@@Tiger9535 That could work out. What do you mean not holding up, do they keep clogging and plugging? I would look into your tune and see if the truck is running too rich or lean. The resonators in my system came with the kit, they are about 8"s long and aren't real thick at all. The short Bullets would probably keep a clean sound.
DarrenWS6 thanks man that’s what I’ll do then. One of my high flows broke apart inside not even 200 miles on it but 2 exhaust shops said it was due to the headers and tune like you stated. Hey Darren, I was wondering if you can give me some input. I am thinking about getting rid of the flowmaster super 44's as soon as they rust out and was looking at a set of 4x14" magnapacks or dynomax 12" race bullets. The flows are pretty loud and deep but I guess they just don't really cut it for me. I'm looking for more of a straight piped sound with a really choppy, raw tone but really deep. I can't really decide between the two, for some reason I can't help but feel like the Magnapacks will be a similar volume as my flowmaster super 44's. Something is telling me to go with the Dynomax 12" Race Bullets. I understand the bullets will literally muffler about 5% of the sound of straights. But which do you think would be really good for a really loud, powerful sound similar to straights? Thanks man! Love your videos!
The Magnapacks will sound awesome. I ran the 12" Bullets on my 04 F150, then ran a single 3" exhaust with a #14419 Magnaflow 4"x14" case. I liked that setups sound a lot more. A much deeper tone. The true dual makes a nice natural rasp. I would certainly try the Magnapacks out over the Dynomax Bullets.
