Flowmasters (baffle boxes) sound INCREDIBLE on certain engine configurations but are tuned for SOUND with varying degrees of restriction. The quieter the muffler, the more wing plates and chambers to reflect the exhaust pulses. What you hear, is the pulses being bounced around and then shot out the end(s). Any straight through design with a perforated core (glass pack) will absorb the pulses via the amount of packing material at slower speeds, then will rushingly bypass the perforations when at higher speeds or at full throttle. If you can see through it, you’re making the most of what you have under the hood. If you can’t see through it, it’s either a turbo style (looped/chambered/packed) or a baffled/screened box or tube of chambers. Old fashioned Flowmasters are like close pinning a playing card onto a bicycle frame so the card clatters along the wheel spokes. You lose some power in most instances, but not enough to matter unless you’re counting every bit of power to win in a quick straight line; and if enough pressure is applied, enough times, with lots of heat, the baffles can break off. But, they make great sound!
I had a shop install a FlowMaster on my Ram 1500 & it destroyed my horsepower I hate it, I went & bought a cherry bomb GlassPack to have installed instead of the FlowMaster crap, so what your saying is the GlassPack since it goes straight thru & I can see thru to the other side it will make my truck fast again?
@@schlick93ifyAnytime you take a Flowmaster exhaust system off and replace it with a different type of aftermarket performance muffler, your most definitely gonna gain some Horsepower and Torque, Flowmasters are junk, but they can definitely make a stock V-8 engine sound good, for instance the older 5.0 Foxbody Mustangs, just put on a Off road H Pipe and some 2 Chamber Flowmasters and it'll sound fantastic, but you'll definitely be giving up some performance, i always liked the Dynomax Ultra Flos, Straight Thru design, Stainless Steel, and not too much money.
I recently had a magnaflow (12649) single exaust installed (after having the factory resonator and back removed) on my '04 durango, and i love it. While i initially was looking more towards flowmaster, the guy at the shop recommended the magnaflow. @@SmoknJaysGarage Just received my Borla S-types for my 11 GT500. Chose them over the Corsa's because I've heard them on some other GT500's and they sound good. The Corsa's have also gone up quite a bit in price as well which was a consideration for me. I had Corsa Extremes on my 12 & 13 Boss 302 and loved their sound. The GT500 has the 5.4L motor vs. 5.0 on the Boss, so might not be a fair comparison sound wise, especially since the Boss has 4 exhaust outlets....vs. 2 on the GT500. Looking forward to the spring to install the Borla's and see how they sound.
@macker0077 i have the S-Type ll on my corvette and they sound amazing! I know the LS7 will sound different than yours, but I think you'll be very happy.
Thank you so much! I really cannot tell you how informative that was. I watched this before I went to my local exhaust shop. You gave me the info I needed to make a decision. I went with the Borla. Have a great day.
They have a anti- drone for Flowmaster it’s called Delta flow I had them on my fox body mustang they were 40s it was loud as shit from the outside but inside couldn’t hear anything
Great video; quick and to the point. I've had crappy drone with the Flowmasters on my Mustang. The Magnaflows weren't bad. Once I hit Borla though, there was no going back.
Just put a Flowmaster 70 on my 95 Chevy G20 with a 305 3 inch all the way through with a nice tailpipe it sounds beautiful no common drone nice as you throttle up you can hear the motor doing his job since very nice
Previous owner had Magnaflow exhaust already on our 2012 SRT 8 Challenger. If not , i probably would not be able to afford the 1200 bucks it costs. Sounds way better than stock and i like the tips.
With Borla you also get T304 stainless steel a much better stailnless steel than 409. 409 will rust where T304 stainless steel will withstand the elements far better.
409 is exhaust grade stainless and perfectly fine. It 'oxidizes' from the heat (turns brown) more than actual 'rust'. 304 is more prone to cracking and work hardening and harder to form. Even if you drive your car in the worst elements (not likely) 409 will last nearly the life of the vehicle. 304 is more suited to a show car because it polishes better.
Borla is the way to go! I have Borla on my 2012 Camry SE V6 and my 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. I chose the touring exhaust because it's mild for normal driving and gets wild when you get on it. Plus, no drone. I cannot speak to the Boral S-Type and Atak. Those are much more throaty. Also cannot speak to flowmaster or magnaflo.
At over $1100 for Borla's, and seeing what's inside.....I guess the metal is super expensive and/or the process to make them labor intensive? Not much too them when you see the insides.
There’s a bunch of options for trucks . It just depends on what type of sound you’re looking for . If you want old fashioned American truck sounds the flowmaster 40 series is a great option. Just bought a Camaro with long tube headers and Kat deleted. Has borla ATAK exhaust. It is way too loud and raspy. Pretty sure that exhaust was made for a catted factory exhaust. I definitely want to hear my exhaust. But it wanted to be deep throaty and a reasonable volume. This car is embarrassing to drive it so loud. Literally sounds like straight pipes to me. What do you recommend to modify this exhaust to get what I'm looking for?

Which magnaflow would be good for a rt challenger i don't want it too loud but i don't want it too quiet either i heard the 14 in magnaflow is a good pick im looking for a deep smooth sound

You got that assbackwards bud. Flowbastard is for a 'Stock Turd'. Those are the WORST damn mufflers out there. Not my opinion either. Look at the flow data. I always wanted to see some of those mufflers insides. But nobody has the balls to cut them in half to see the workings. You guys do! Awesome.
Flowmaster / more rumble
Borla / more aggressive
Magnaflow / more deep
Wth is the difference between aggressive and deep?
Corsa / All of Them

I can’t understand why someone would (to show the internal layout of a muffler)would not cut it in half longitudinally.
