As a Chinese I do not like Hong Kong for the same reasons you stated. As a matter of fact when I tried to speak Mandarin in HK back in the 90's I would get looked down upon and be spoken to very rudely. When I switch to English all these idiots all of a sudden seem to have a light bulb click on and try to communicate in what limited English they master. All in all HK people are a totally another breed. No other place like this on earth......THANK GOD!!!!!

Mainland Chinese are fairly nice everywhere, especially towards foreigners (Caucasians). However, in terms of public courtesy you'll find that the culture is quite inconsiderate. Since it's not a personal thing you should not take it personally. Took me a while to get used to that.

I saw Dan Lok's video n found quite a useful info but at the same time I think about this video m.ua-cam.com/video/xlm6u3SNDOY/v-deo.html
Some comments for HK people and Dan Lok
Stop bull shit to the youngster .. no doubt u have a brilliant mind but animal heart so u can push to human limit with animal desire with the gift of human wisdom for money.. what would an animal does to get something ?
U r definitely a free thinker.. high intellegence animal..
Look at Steve Jobs , wtf he can do with his billions of dollars?
He was diagnosed with cancer and recovered then diagnosed with cancer again after pushing his limit using same thought as this fatty pig face mindset ..
Nobody gonna recognise wtf is iPhone in next 5 years especially the young kid .. perhaps buried in Google or may be difficult to find those info too on Google
This fatty pig from HK . Those HK Chinese is so poor that spend their entire life, energy and money for the expensive rented house small like a coffin, restaurant seat packed like a coffin, and work inside a coffin .. how many people really get rich in the world ? Face the fact and reality.. money is important but craze for it like this mad dog..
Wtf.. for HK people.. please polish your skill and English level and get the fuck out of HK with your family..don't stay in this hell while u can. Get a life and stop making this stupid video..
Some special note to Dan Lok, can u do plastic surgery of your face cause u look like north Korea president n wanna slap your face .. alright I shall stop wasting time complaining about this animal n spend my time wisely and more carefully to earn money

It was 7 AM no other customers in the store
I paid the cashier woman and she did not even look at me or said anything but just gave me back my change but I said Thank you to her

In HK, you will be taken advantage of or being labelled as unsophisticated if you tried to be unconditionally nice to strangers. You get bullied by being simply nice to someone. This is the reason why they wouldn't turn kind or say nicer when they get to know each of them better and ascertain people's characteristics. They feel that they might be possibility of being exploited by straight away accepting people they didn't know well. They observed with preventive clause by any means. I have been here for most of my life so I understand them well enough to say. Typical Mainland Chinese think that way when most of these population are still of a proletariat mentality level.

Hi, im filipino... me and my family went to hk when i was 8, 7 years ago, as tourists, i was most excited about disneyland at that time... but i will share my experience
At the airport, there is a part where you show your passports and stuff, one employee threw our passports away and shouted, she was asking for a form that we didnt know, so we finally filled up that form and went to a diff person, he didnt take the form and let us in 😡 at the end we just threw our forms away... At the hotel, the woman working there was so loud! Even at night! She is screaming at the phone etc. ... At the restaurant there was an old woman who saw us taking pictures and started screaming at us and making middle finger! And she didnt get kicked out! We have to move instead!
At the market, there are people selling shirts and raising the price on us, we asked why it was expensive, and she got mad cuz we were complaining and her employees asked us to leave...
The only person i found nice at hk was a stranger, old man who was in line for the disneyland entrance and he was in front of me, he gave me disney stickers. Thats all

  • @fcfhkmelb
    @fcfhkmelb 7 років тому +27

While what you are saying about the rudeness of Hong Kong Chinese is very true, you need to differentiate Hong Kong from China. The rudeness of Hong Kong people is not a Chinese thing. British ruled Hong Kong for 100 years and Chinese in Hong Kong are actually westernised. They hate China more than anybody else. They are not proud of being part of China and the rise of China at all. They see the rise of China as a threat to them and they cannot accept the fact that their once poor neighbour who they look down on for decades has become rich. Chinese in Hong Kong and Chinese in Mainland China are very very different so please don't mix them up. People in Hong Kong are rude deep down because they think they "as an individual" are better than anybody else. I needed to emphasize "as an individual" because, as opposed to what you think, people in Hong Kong actually have no concept of nationalism. They were also brought up in a highly competitive environment and developed a mean, harsh and selfish personality. They apply perfectionism on others and hence Hong Kong is nick-named the City of Complaints. They praise Whites and look down on non-Whites, and hence the "You are dirty" insult to a Filipino domestic helper. They think Whites are the best race. On the other hand, Chinese in Mainland China are rude on the outside because they are not well educated due to the poor past of China and that's it. Many of them are actually very friendly and hospitable when you start to know them. But most Whites expats still choose to live in Hong Kong rather than China because Hong Kong and its system and people are westernised.

Accurate response. The chinese who grew up in HK think they're special because they were colonized by the British. Then at the same time they blame their shitty behavior on the British. Which is it? The British expats in HK can behave in a civilized manner, so HK people cannot blame their shitty behavior on the British. But that's just like a HK person, not to accept responsibility for anything. Goes back to their incredibly selfish mindset.

I can tell you , the way they treat their own hk people is really mean as well. In the work field, some employers are the bastards of hell, they treat employees almost like slave, not just yell at workers when doing the wrong thing, they would curse at them, blame their parents to born such a stupid kid to work at this place and say some really bad swear words and put them down to a worthless trash
sometimes can get abit of physical- i had been pushed the head down several times just because i asked dumb questions

Coming from my mother who used to live in hk, cars will not wait for pedestrians, its been like that for A LONG TIME. They will not care if you midway crossing a street. I guess its because of the busy lifestyle that they have. So most hk pedestrians tend to walk fast for 2 reasons, they are hurrying somewhere or they are not risking their lives. Also on the 20 yr old girls who still chase Hello Kitty, I, personally think that is perfectly fine. The behaviour of some teenagers in Australia could be worse. Stopping in the middle of the shopping centre to take a selfie or groupie. Usually a table in the food court, for far too long too talk and use social media. Ordering food with no please or thank yous. Loudly talking in cinemas or public places. On the bus I catch, several drivers have already had to shout at them to quiet down. Bumping into people and not saying sorry. Being unawareof their surroundings, like running across the street with a red light, having to have their friends pull them back. Basically acting as if they own the place. This behaviour is caused by them thinking that they look cool on social medias or in public. Ive seen several people look towards these teens in disgust. Its not just Hong Kong 😰😁

I have traveled by Kathy Pacific to London via HK. It was terrible the way the HK Airport staff treated me. When I was going I was asked in the gate of aircraft by someone, who have asked me "why do I go to the UK, where am I going and where that place is located in the UK" etc. On my way back the airport staff was shouting at me to ask how could I get permanent residence in Japan. When I was going to the gate for boarding another staff had asked me to show my passport and told me that it is a fake passport. I have challenged him, he called someone else, two or three people came and have inspected my passport but could not find anything wrong.

As Indonesian i really don’t like saying these things because i have chinese friends that are nice to me here in Germany during my college year but i have to tell you one time me and family went to Hong Kong for a holiday and things like people said about chinese spitting, cutting line, rude language, etc happened to me and my family just as soon as my family landed in Hong Kong. It happened sooner actually would you believe it. A chinese guy forced me to switch seats while pulling my hand in an airplane witnessed by many people and his fellow chinese yelled at me asking me to move. They were very loud and rude. I honestly don’t know what seems to be the problem that causing them to behave this way. Many people have problem with mainland chinese but after went to Hong Kong i was surprised. Didn’t really think people there could be that rude and uncivilized like that. To be fair there are nice people too there. I just hope for a better and civilized chinese one day. As a black guy myself, I have visited Hong Kong and lived in many other parts of China for many years. I can honestly say my experience was actually the total opposite. While I was there, the Chinese people seemed extremy nice and polite to me actually. I met many friends there and my relationship with them carried on even back in the US. I don't know. Maybe I'm bias because I met my wife in China who is also Chinese. Chinese people are nowhere near that bad. They just have to get use to you because your a foreign Westerner and some may be prejudgments about you based from bad experiences, which can regard any race not just Chinese. Once they get to know you, they can be extremely sweet, especially older Chinese people. Same with Japanese people when I studied abroad there too. I think Americans can be wayyyyy worst especially in Baltimore, Maryland where I currently reside.

Native Hongkong people just as rude today as it was in 1980s. Ask a question or make a comment, and you may be berated if the seller sensed that you do not appear rich and you are not buying. They expect that you just make a quick purchase. The sellers are not as friendly after a sale. The Hong Kongers are under high stress 24/7 with high living cost and crowded living. And naturally are short tempered. Today, I rather go to other places that are visitor friendly and avoid being agitated and aggravated. I can "visit" these places on UA-cam channels and buy online from the comforts of my home. I can dine at fine Cantonese restaurants in my neighborhood same taste anytime and cost less too.

It was that time I know that HongKong Chinese will discriminate against mainland Chinese or even feel shame about China. I just don't understand why ever time mainland Chinese trying to ask them for help or something, they just make a sour face on us.Mainland Chinese seldom do that kind of thing...so don't think that all Chinese are like that

  • @klosevilla98
    @klosevilla98 5 років тому +2

Some of the explaination that making sense here ..
A lot of cultures are just byproducts of demographics. Just go to any overpopulated country and you'll see the same behaviours. Even in the Netherlands people can be pushy, greedy and rude, they're one of the most population dense countries in the world. Then go to Norway or Canada, and people are very self-aware and courteous. Too many people in a small area is the definition of hell.
Consider moving to the country / rural area, if you can. I'm sure the people there will be nicer.

What you're saying is very disturbing to me. I am from Hong Kong, and what I want to say is that please try to understand our culture and our background before making any judgements. It is very disrespectful and I found you naive to say things like that. Every parent I'm sure want to spend all their time with their children. But life is hard in Hong Kong - many families are struggling to support their own families and raising children here in Hk is expensive. In many situations, both parents are required to work in order to support their families. While HK is one of the cities in the world with the longest working hours, parents could only hire a helper to take care of their children. Money is important to HK people because our salaries are not catching up with the inflation - things are relatively more expensive - making it harder to live in Hong Kong. I feel sorry for you to make such judgements before understanding the full picture. It is totally fine if you do not like the culture of HK. But I hope that you can rethink about the judgements you made here and apologise for what you have said.

I am married to Chinese girl from Malaysia. Travelled in China a few times and also Hong Kong N Singapore. I feel Chinese from HK and Singapore is different from the Chinese elsewhere. To many they give a bad name to the Chinese. People in China mainland, particularly in the villages are the nicest. It is true Chinese as a society pay more attention to making money than many other races but they are not unique. However they are ready to work hard for it. It is hard to find lazy Chinese. Result - their success all over the world. So all in all - don’t have a bad impression about all Chinese because of The people in HK. Go to China mainland - and find out about true China and the Chinese people.
Also, bad treatment of domestic helpers is problem in all over Asia and Middle East. So it’s a different issue and most thinking people in the world hates it.

I worked in a family of five, i clean 2 house which is in the contract i should take care one only. I was naive and stupid that time it was my first time abroad i let the grandma humiliate me in public. She’s in her wheel chair and my employer asked me if i could sleep in her house to accompany her of course i said Yes, do i have a choice, i was stupid. She woke up every after 30 minutes to smoke in the bathroom and if i’m sleeping the time she would kick my head to wake me up to stand in the toilet door to watch her in the toilet smoking. In the morning i feel like i want to collapse due to lack of sleep by that time i was working 5 months in their home.Everytime my employers go out it’s a nightmare to me bacause only me and the grandma left in the house. I couldn’t rest my mind bacause i always hear her voice inside my head though she’s not calling me. She would throw things infront of me especially food if she didn’t like it. I lost a lot of weight that my mother cried and always urged me to just go back home when we are talking via phone video call. I burn my hands in using muriatic acid in cleaning the toilet bacause she forbid me to use gloves. There was a time that she hold my head and wanted to bump it in the faucet sink but i told her i would run to police and she calm down. We don’t eat lunch most of the time she eat biscuits and smoke. I tried to cook more rice at night but she caught me so i didn’t tried it again. She is weak in appearance and using a cane but strong physically. She sometimes buy me food and i cried while eating at the kitchen i don’t know why. I managed to worked and waited for the arrival of their new Helper. I prayed in tears every night and now my prayer answered.

Crowds: You are literally in one of the crowdest cities in the world. Don't expect them to move for you when the entire idea is that stopping stalls a crowd. Pay attention to where you are going instead of trying to go against the bloody crowd. If you are actually walking INTO people, then you have no one to blame but yourself. Just suck up and ride the wave.
Girls: You do know the basics of Chinese culture is that you have to earn your home, right? While you can gripe about things like girls and money, the fundamental issue about Hong Kong is that housing is fucking expensive. While you can complain about the "golddigger" mentality, a lot of this stems from the fact that the current generation is not as likely to be able to afford real estate unless they have help. And if anything, you damn well have to have a house.
Taxi: You really have never been to mainland China, have you? And then you kicked their car? Imma gonna just laugh.
Integration: Dis nigga just came in and told the locals to integrate...
Kindness: I'm getting a lot of entitlement from this. You don't exactly gain much from expecting kindness unless you go out of your way to make it so. Hong Kong is a place where time is LITERALLY money (if you live in Hong Kong, you need money). So if you came in and expected the people to bend over backwards for you when literally every other person gets it and gets out, you really don't seem to get how this works.
Money: While you can say a lot about money, you are basically in a city where the cost of living is insane.
Connection: AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You aren't there yet.
Manners: This actually goes both ways. It seems you never bothered doing a little of what you told them to do, integrate. They do have their own version of culture. But what you did was basically browse the street.
