David, might be a little long. I had the exact same thing happen on my wife handicap transport. I would drive it ever 2-4 weeks to keep it loosened up and kept it on shore power, always. I got mixed up on when I drove it last and it was just a couple days over five weeks. Same thing, crank, crank, two or three tries and it finally started. I took it to a Ford guy and he explained it this way. I let it sit so long the oil pump lost prime, all the oil in the cavities leaked past the pump, back into the oil pan. He said I should start it every two weeks, three at the very most to keep this from happening again. Mine’s got about 250k miles and the oil pressure was a little low so he put in a Ford higher oil pressure kit. It never happened again and does that thing have oil pressure now. Head held high, you’re doing good buddy. JimO
So I'm not the only one who has a talking doggo. My Tank has the same way of communicating that Lefty has. I get a chuckle because the minute Lefty starts talking Tank gets up in the screen looking for his buddy Lefty to talk back to him. It tickles me to see my boy talking to your boy. Good to know the way you do the oil change bc when I get my ambo I'm going to need to know how to do these things ecause I'm not going to let anyone else work on my vehicle. I've always done all my own work on any vehicle I owned but never had a diesel. Been watching a load of how to videos on diesel truck repairs. Lol Lefty 😂 and his talking got Tank going again. Happy trails and safe travels to you and Lefty!
There is a check ball that prevents oil from draining out of the hpop resevoir. Not to send you down a rabbit hole, but it is possible that when the van sat as long as it did that oil managed to drain past that check ball and you did not immediately have enough oil in the hpop to create the pressures needed for the injectors to pop off
Kong dog toys rule 💪🏻 Lefty destroyed I mean loved his toy 😂 He sure loves you so much wants to be in on everything you are doing. Glad your repairs are going well. Look forward to seeing you hit the road and in Minnesota. 🚑
Great job and love that you took the time to film it for us. For people who can get under there, a great learning video! Luv ya, kove your channel❣️ 🚑🛠️🔧🐾🦴
Hey, 94 e350 7.3 type 3 here. Dave try plugging in that heater tonight (I know it's still summer). Crank it in the morning and I bet she fires up immediately with warm water in the block. Mine is noticeably easier to start when the block is warmed overnight. Just putting part 1 and part 2 of your video together Into a self test. Happy trails....
That is one bored Pooch. He is dying to get back on the road and start his new adventures. I'm surprised he hasn't climbed his way out of a window at night to sit by the Ambulance or go on a mission to the park on his own. Lefty is a handful! I wonder how he'd do in a sidecar for the eBike or Motorcycle? I bet he would absolutely love going on rides with his father.
Hey David, we were watching one of your videos, you asked for a neat clean way to crack eggs. Tap them on the inside of your pan or bowl. Eggs go where you want them and no mess on counter or floor.
Sounds more like fuel . Just lost pressure & had bubble in filter. Also may be good practice to add anti algee in tank while sitting a longer amount of time
Hi Dave... You might give a diesel additive I use in my 07 5.9 Dodge. Got it at Walmart. About 25$. Really helped improve mileage. STAR BRITE Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment - Super Concentrated Diesel Formula - 1 oz. Treats 32 Gallons - 16 OZ. WD 40 will light up a diesel engine without harming your motor like starting fluid. Sounds like it fixed itself. Looking forward to your trip to beet land. Safe travels to you and Lefty!
I'm getting ready to get back on the road as well. Van is out of the shop and running great. 4 more weeks on the job and I'm out of here. Safe Safe travels
ah, you are a very competent mechanic for sure. So you plug the end coming out of your grill into a block heating unit?? I'm from the south, and we don't use things like that. That is alot of oil in your motor... I mean...coming from a guy that used to change the oil in my super beetle back in 1972.. grin😅... Lefty is chopping at the bit I believe. He's ready to hit the road. yawl keep smilin. later.😊
I've seen pictures of folks in like Minnesota parked in front of, like charging stations....but I guess those were block heating stations.... man, it must be really cold to have to use one of those. I lived in Kansas for ten years.... we never used the block heater, but we did mix about a gallon of regular gas with the diesel in our delivery trucks.... I learned that the hard way....my diesel truck froze up one time. We did leave our truck running over night a few time to keep the engine warm... I delivered furniture out there in Kansas for JCPenney.... I moved from Florida to Kansas.... grin... culture shock and climate shock too... grin. but it was fun.@@TheCampulanceMan
Just in case the box doesn’t tell you. At 14.5 ohms with 120 volts, your block heater should draw just under 1,000 watts, 993 watts to be exact. My OCD wouldn’t not let me do the math.😊
After a couple of drives, it's back to its normal startup. It must have lost fuel prime from sitting. If it had continued I would have talked to Harry about it :)
I had to replace my cord once but haven't done the heating element I have some glow plugs not working have replaced the plugs the harness and the relay they still don't work I don't know what ells it could be
@@TheCampulanceMan thanks I got sidetracked decided to hang a freshwater tank under the rig instead this weekend. surprisingly with three glow plugs not working it still starts fine this winter might be a different story will get it done soon.

Ha! Lefty really wants to play -- someone should tell him that he isn't a puppy no more (impossible, I know). I saw my nephew driving his truck down the street last week with his dog (very similar to Lefty) sitting in his lap, hanging her head out the window. Some dogs are just irrepressible. 😂

Inquiring minds want to know….
You're right - diesel engines don't like cold starts so you plug in the block heater to pre-warm the engine before starting. It takes 2 hours to warm it or it can be left plugged in all night. I fixed this in preparation for the cold temps at the beet harvest.
@@TheCampulanceMan Yes, I’m on the same page now… We r ready for the Fall 2023 disembark video, wherein Dalynn christens/cracks the Champaign bottle to the bow of the *SS Left Hook,* as Lefty & you take us once again on your journey.. Prayers added!
David, I'm wondering what the ohm reading is at the plug. Now that you have added the new wire, I'm thinking the ohm reading may be the 15 to 20 ohms predicted.
I put the FL 1995a on my 7.3 IDI and haven't noticed a difference. That's the only one Walmart sells now. The first things I read about the "A"was that it was just being manufactured in a different facility. And the Wix is an equal or better filter than the motorcraft. And the Napa is a Wix filter. Just get whatever is cheaper at the time. O'Reilly carries Wix filters.

I hear you. I've seen fake Ford parts (my dash AC vent that I replaced a couple of years ago). The heater I ordered came from a Ford dealership - I hope it's real!

Glad you put "No Reading" on the screen to correct having said the resistance reading was zero.. Zero resistance s is a short, not an open circuit. No reading means the meter didn't even know you were trying to take a reading, because the circuit is open.
Hi Dave, nice job with the block heater. I expected a lot more fluid than you got. Just wondering if the glow plugs can build up deposits after sitting for 6 weeks and just need to be used enough times to burn it off and get reliable first starts. I agree I never heard of you worrying about startups except when your crank batteries were growing old and the amps dropped. Just a quick FYI. Plastic Ty-raps deteriorate over a few years; so maybe make a note to replace them at some point.
Good tip! I have the high quality thick ties but even they get brittle after years.
Recommend a plug cover for that end of the cable, just to be safe
I put the cover on it that was on the old cable. It is a good rubber one with a loop that goes around the cable to keep it from falling off.
Wix and Baldwin best
