An Aussies first time in a Bass Pro Shop

- Bergie is in Atlantic City visiting one of the biggest fishing tackle store chains in the world, Bass Pro. This huge store is unbelievably different to the Aussie tackle stores with a plethora of hunting, fishing and camping supplies. The sheer size of the place is daunting. Bergie chats to some of the workers and asks them all about Bass Pro, also whether they have even heard of some our iconic species.

They aren't kidding about that being a smaller store. The 10th largest pyramid in the world is a Bass Pro Shop in Memphis Tennessee. It has a hotel inside it, an archery range, bowling, laser tag, restaurants, and they also remembered to include a store.
Before the pyramid became a Bass Pro I saw Guns n Roses with Sound Garden opening for them and also KISS during their reunion tour in the mid 90’s. It was killer for seeing concerts at.
@@BlackMesaSecurity They also used to host travelling art exhibits.
This one is so small compared to others. I’m a local to this store that came from Alabama and was shocked by how different they were.
I was wondering why it seemed s small compared to what I'm used to in Canada
i saw that. they had a stocked lake in the bottom and floated the boats.
Really obvious Aussie culture is not gun culture... Please, whenever you manipulate any projectile-emitting device, keep your finger outside the trigger guard. 😃
My eyes immediately saw his finger inside the no-no ring.
But I kinda gave him a pass because it’s a crossbow, clearly not under load, and no bolts in sight. But my alarm still rung 😂
Australians gave up their means of basic defense and now their country is severely low on testosterone
It’s almost like it has a trigger lock and can’t be fired anyway. Trigger locks are devices that fit over a gun's trigger and trigger guard to prevent the gun from being fired. This makes it basically impossible for the gun/crossbow to fire.
@@dbabdbbbghbb it’s almost like there’s also a trigger lock on the trigger that makes it basically impossible to shoot it even if he could press the trigger.
Lol anyone would’ve thought bergs racked a bolt wake up to ya selfs
You hit the nail on the head at the end about the different tackle available depending on what state you’re in. Here in Minnesota you’ll see a lot more stuff geared towards walleye, northern pike, and Muskie.
Not a whole lot of saltwater stuff at the one here in Wisconsin I go to.
@@madtownangler I wonder why
I came looking for this comment, the Bass Pro’s on the coast will stock more salt water supplies. This includes boats, gear, and clothing. While inland shops have more freshwater, and even cater to what kind of game/fish is more prevalent in your area.
I’m in coastal Florida and the size of gear, hooks, and lures is insane.
If someone found a lure as big as their forearm it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
@@johnmaurer3097 there are! My uncle caught a 570lb marlin off a 18 incher
I’m American but I love that BPS hires old timers and veterans. That right there will make me customer.
I work at a Cabela's which is owned by Bass Pro Shop and we also offer a 10% discount for military, medical, and first responders (5% on ammunition). Great company to work for.
no one has better storeies than old timers, they also ground the younger gen to appreciate how great we have it.
@@Daminatedis that something uncommon?
In the U.K., there is a blue light card, that gives all emergency service employees discounts, Pretty much all healthcare, armed services veterans and first response get it too.
You get anything from 5-20% discount across that vast majority of retailers in the UK
I 2nd that!
@@Jamiiemac honestly a 10% military discount is kinda mid. Yes, most all retailers and big box stores have military and first responder discounts. Even the weed shops in oklahoma😉
When I moved to Florida I went into a bass pro and told them I want to learn to fish. I told them where I live and I got a guy just like this walking me around helping me choose all the gear I need. Couldn’t have been a nicer guy and he kept me under my price point!
Love to see Mark visiting and being excited, that’s how I feel everytime I go and I’ve got one 20 minutes away. Amazing store and terrific employees
That a Bass Pro Outpost which is a smaller store, the regular stores are even larger and have more of everything.
well sure, but how many bass pro shops have a nike outlet and several casinos within a few blocks? he picked the right one
@@bigploppa154 a lot of them
Greetings from Springfield, Missouri, where Johnny Morris used to sell tackle out his father's liquor store before opening the first tiny Bass Pro about 20 minutes from my house. It now houses a fish and wildlife museum that controls the temperature and smell to match the environment featured in each exhibit. Unbelievable. Better than the Smithsonian; I have been to both. Also inside, a racing museum, firearms museum, fishing museum, indoor shooting range, fancy seafood restaurant, and indoor watercraft showroom. Also the aquarium (both salt and fresh, domestic and exotic) where you can go in a cage in the shark tank and everyone gets to pet the little manta rays. Their penguins dont talk like in that movie, though. And no, dont work for them, it is really just a "I remember when..." moment for me. Super cool. Excellent video and happy fishing! Thank you!
I can't visit the US without stopping at any Bass Pro I'm in the vicinity of. Even the food is good.
I’m from Louisiana, bass pro is a 2 hour drive away from me but always worth it. The place still blows me away every time and I always spend more than I planned
Professional Sports Shop , 920 Julia st., NOLA is a hidden gem. I find as much useful terminal tackle as anywhere else and they have it all
Salt and Fresh water.
Check it out before you make the drive. 😊😊😊
Also Puglia's on Veterans Blvd. I'm Metairie. @@amycarolineott6575
If ur driving 4 hrs you might as well make a day of it
I was fortunate when I lived back in Louisiana because they built one in my Hometown when I was in High School.
Also, don't take the people around you for granted, man. They are very different outside of Louisiana. I've gotten stink eye for holding doors open for people and calling them "Sir" or "Ma'am". Food's also a lot better down there, too.
Everything's illegal in Australia now... Bloody woke left 🙄
I’m a Brit and my first visit to a Bass Pro shop was in Islamorada Florida keys ! Even had a replica of Earnest Hemingways boat ( forget the name think is was Pilar 🤔. )I thought I was in heaven I’ve never dreamed of a shop like that let alone been in one ..if you’ve never been in one then go it’s a great experience in itself and don’t forget your wallet 👍
in my industry here in US, I have a lot of Brit clients. They are CRAZY to make me drive them to Bass Pro Shops. They ALWAYS buy the baseball caps as souvenirs, sometimes 5 for one dude and tackles. Even if you are not a fishing guy, the place just hooks you in, no pun.
Fun fact: each Bass Pro has a different theme to them and are decorated differently. The ones in Louisiana have Swamp/Bayou themes to them and each store has a different interior decoration.
Yeah, the ones in Florida close to the coast have saltwater tanks.
The one in Palm Bay has an alligator exhibit at the entrance with a freshwater tank inside.
Fun fact with very few exceptions they are all basically the same across the country.
Lol and this is one of the smallest bass pro shops.
MERICA FISHING AN GUNS U AINT SEEN ENOUGH WOOOO 🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸FREEDOM 🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸WTF IS A METER
The bass pro shops make Aussie tackle stores look small. Even just the variety. 🎣🎣👍
Bass Pro Shop has some really awesome stores, however the Mother store in Springfield Missouri is by far the best one!
I am from Springfield Missouri, can't confirm
@@Elconquistador1979 LMAO! I'm from there too and can confirm!
As a man who fishes from his canoe a lot in American Lakes and rivers I’d say about 60% of what you catch is bass. They’re pretty good to eat and you can have 300 fisherman on one lake and still not fish them out of bass. They reproduce so quickly. Second place in my experience is either walleye or catfish depending on where I’m fishing although I caught a 3 1/2 foot (105cm if my math is right) sturgeon once in the Missouri river.
It’s the size of the stores, was blown away my first time
What’s funny is he is at a “outpost” the smallest of the bass pro shops
It’s funny really the northern states love our walleye, musky, pike, and small mouth bass. Northern states Largemouth bass aren’t really too high on the list just as general and totally not speaking for everyone but that just seems how it is.
He lives in a country where every creature wants to kill you and he thinks guns are crazy 🤣
You have to go to Memphis Tennessee and check out the bass pro shop pyramid! It even has a hotel you can stay at for like $200 or $300! It's massive!!!
We really get the crumbs in Australia... Japanese tackle shops are otherworldly
We also get ripped off heavily on things like braid and reels.
I remember my first time, it was something special
My first time was in Missouri during the 90s as a kid. I believe we spent 6 hours there, maybe more. Visiting there was actually part of our vacation.
The yanks def don’t do things in halves, that’s for sure with a go BIG or go home attitude!
Thanks for the insight Bergie, I’ll see you when you come over to surprise me to go fishing with you on “Fishing Addiction” 😉👍🏽
The Southern States: Catfish is probably the most fished for - followed by the Bass and Crappie. However anytime your fishing a fish regardless of species is a good catch
The Bass Pro up here in Tacoma WA seems to be more geared towards the area. Lots of Salmon and Coho. Also in terms of gear, lots of back country stuff for all the rugged hiking right on the doorstep. I have noticed a difference between here and the stores I shopped at back in the Midwest.
my favorite feature of the tacoma bass pro is the fire lookout tower on the edge of the parking lot right next to the freeway. i smile every time i see that thing, when i win the lottery i'm having one built in my backyard.
09:30 Pat ( the boyfriend behind the counter) fades ever so slightly at "50 centimeters" as he tries to recall middle school math and centimeter to inch conversions. Luckily he was saved by the universal signing of "I once caught a fish THIS big!"
Nice recovery, Pat!
Lulled him into a casual conversation just to drop the metric system outta nowhere LOL
Springfield,Missouri the mother ship
We visited probably 30 years ago as a kid and literally spent an entire day of our vacation there. It’s absolutely incredible and such an amazing time.
I agree they theme it very well. Makes it inviting. I personally would love to go to Tokyo and see their 24 hour tackle store. I have seen some videos and the tackle unreal. Imagine getting there at 4.00am in the morning.🤠🎣👌
The bass pro near me in Colorado is twice the size of the one you visited. It’s like candy land for outdoorsmen
I can remember when I lived out in Denver over twenty years ago that Bass Pro Shops was basically an outlet store in a seedy part of town in a small tackle shop.
I used to play pool at the Mexican bar next door. When I went there with my friends. I remember some guys walking out saying they hated it when white guys went there and I said I hated it too. I was one of those white guys. After a while of going there at night on payday they actually started cashing my paycheck there.
These are dotted all over the country as well. I'm within an hours drive of 2 of them. Great store to 'window shop' in if you don't need something in particular.
They are slightly regional as well in their tackle selection. Like the one I went to in California was very different from the ones in Florida.
Love Bass Pro Shops but your next stop needs to be at a Sheels, which are mostly out west and the upper midwest. They're AWESOME!
If you get a chance, you need to come to the headquarter store in Springfield Missouri. You won't regret it.
Intersting take on Bass Pro Shops from an Australian perspective, down here in S W Florida the Bass Pro has a good selection of both salt and freshwater tackle, we have a bigger variety of species as well, with the Everglades and the Gulf of Mexico nearby it's the best of both worlds, Marco Island is well worth visiting for any fishing enthusiast.
super expensive lures. Is that because of joe biden inflation or because it is in a bass pro shop?
those lures should be 1/3 and some 1/4 of the price, lol
Wow, didn't have the nads to show the gun counter. Aussies have truly been castrated.
Crossbow laws vary by state in Australia, but in most states, adults over 18 can own crossbows with a special license. Crossbows are classified as Category M weapons under the Weapons Categories Regulation 1996, and licensees must provide a genuine reason for obtaining a license. Reasons may include: Club membership for sports or target shooting, Recreational shooting, and Military re-enactment or demonstrations.
That's sad
sounds draconian. very sad state of affairs.
Reasons I need a crossbow or even firearms is NONE of the authorities effing business. Expat living in freedom loving Texas.
@@TMS5100 Its is and the people are conditioned to believe that the authorities know best and must follow the rules to be aloud permission. Its FUBAR.
btw, Berg? Scandinavian ancestors?
Springfield, Mo. BPS is HUGE.
Wait ... what? Americans have health insurance? Even an old-timer? That can't be right. Where's the editor of this video?
I’ve had health insurance my entire adult life. Up until Obamacare came along I never paid a dime for single plan because it was affordable enough the companies I worked for have it as a benefit. One company I worked for paid 100% of employees family plan.. Good insurance with low deductible. Just like everything else government touches they destroyed that..
I spent most of a US holiday in Bass Pro shops once!!😂
How about a tour of your tackle store just as a comparison.
Trump 2024!
2:41 Why do Aussies hate freedom so much??
The music makes it unwatchable
Hey from sc, USA. You need to check out this bass pro shop in Tennessee. It’s huge, shaped like a pyramid and the top portion is a hotel/restaurant. That guy was telling the truth when he said that was a smaller bass pro shop
I used to think BPS was huge, until I walked into a Scheel’s. Made BPS look like Ace Hardware.
was only in one scheels and it was a small one tucked in a corner in a mall. i was impressed with the amount of used guns and fair prices
Give me a choice between Bass Pro or Disney-world, I’ll pick Bass Pro every time even just to browse. Bass Pro selection is regional. For example, the west coast has less lakes but are usually much deeper due to dams. They’ll have more rigs to bring your lures or bait hundreds of feet down on a down rigger. Same with the Great Lakes area. Some bass pros like in Louisiana have alligators along with fishes on display.
I live about 45 minutes from the original store in Missouri. Bass pro started as a wall with lures in brown derby liquor stores. We do a lot of catfishing, trout and bass around here.
Why is your finger on the trigger???? 😳
i don't Fish or Hunt but i love walking around Bass Pro Shops and seeing everything, plus they have pretty good Knife sections
Cabelas in Baton Rouge. Place is massive. Got a McDonalds upstairs.
Yeah I was thinking of Cabelas too. I've never been, but I have purchased a few things from them. And their printed catalogue was awesome.
Wow 🤩 love ur videos mateeee 🎣👍🤙🇦🇺😂
trigger discipline bloke
Sounds like Bass Pro Shop needs to start a chain in Australia but made to fit the local fishing and hunting👍
They probably would, from what I know they already have difference in the stores depending on the state, but would be cool if you guys got one
Man if you go to places in the US where open water fishing is more popular you will find more of that stuff in smaller sized stores than in a Bass Pro and you know, we don't just shop at Bass Pro exclusively though they are awesome stores. Morehead City, NC for example has a bunch of stores with tons of open water gear and lures that you won't find in most Bass Pro Shops. It's one of the biggest saltwater fishing destinations in the world and there isn't even a Bass Pro there (yet). It's always interesting to hear the "omg crazy because guns" comments. The guns are never going away either and if you go in a Bass Pro that's inland like the one in Ashland, VA that the one employee you spoke to mentioned, you will see so many guns you'll probably faint from the shock. Also if you ever go to that one which I highly recommend, you should also check out Green Top which is right next door and has even more guns and lots of fishing gear as well. Great video sir!
Out west it's trout, salmon, snapper, bass, and if you're really lucky halibut.
Bass fishing is big but where I am in California, we do allot of Kokanee fishing, I mean allot. It's a land locked salmon. Bass Pro Shop in Rocklin Ca is a good sized store but not all focused on bass, or bass boats. They have everything for anyone..I don't know one person in my area that fishes for bass, I'm sure they do but we have a town facebook page, where we post our catch...Let people know where we are fishing. We have 3 lakes we all love, Union Valley Reservoir, Bullards Bar, Hell Hole and Stamped Reservoir...All great for kokanee and trout. You are probably going to catch a Mackinaw as well which will give you a run for your money reeling it in...We use downriggers, lawrance fish finder, kicker motors, trolling motors on a 20 North River...We love to fish..and I hunt with my girlfriends which is fun too...
BASS PRO SUCKS!!! shop local, you get better service and fishing tips!
I went to Bass Pro in Canada. We have nothing like that here in Australia. Yeh and the Staff are great They had an archery range for crossbows best store I’ve ever been to
I'm in Katy Texas and I'm lucky enough to have a Bass Pro maybe 2 miles from the house.
Another big outdoors store in Texas is Academy and it's even closer than Bass Pro!!
So basically if it's out there I can get it in short order.
Just as an FYI for non Americans, our companies provide our healthcare unless you are very poor(Medicaid), or a “pensioner” (Medicare), which we pay for along with social security retirement pension in our income taxes.
This dates back to WW2 when factories had set salaries, so attract workers which were in demand, they offered extras like health insurance
Tip for someone who's never been to BP. What the old timer said about different stores and surroundings is correct. A Florida BP is extremely different from a middle TN BP and so on. Here where I live in TN is mostly focused on hunting white tailed deer, so that makes up most of the store. Where as the one by my grandparents in FL was all pretty much saltwater fishing.
They are amazing Retailers at Bass Pro Shops. Great Gear and reasonable prices.
Too bad you were unable to stop by the gun counter............ they sell freedom seeds also.
You can't even own a crossbow in Australia? Wow.
You can, theyre just restricted with a license like firearms. Pistol crossbows are basically illegal, but you can get them.
Hey the bass pro shop, it is an experience.
I grew up beside a lake with a tiny bait store that had like ... 5 selections of line, maybe 10 different weights, some bobs, just a few fake baits, and a dozen different sizes of hooks, of which 3 were their only sellers. Soda, snacks, and that was about it. Oh and of course a cooler running on its last legs barely keeping the bait cold. Tons of polaroids with pictures all around the walls of customers catches.
Greatest store for sure.
Sadly the Bass Pro shops need to put almost 80% mark up on everything they sale, which is really hard to justify with Walmarts, and Amazon and specialty fishing web stores all around. While I support mom and pop stores, a bass pro shop is a not one by far. For me fishing is less a sport and more of reason to just get out of the house and away from the family.
Outdoors paradise indoors.
That’s a cute little BPS location you went to. Maybe travel to Missouri and go to one of the full size ones next? You were in the communist nanny state of New Jersey where guns for peasants are pretty much illegal. In a real BPS the gun and bow area alone is bigger than the whole store you visited. Throw in all the rest and it’s probably six times as big as what you saw. Overpriced but awesome selection and atmosphere in a BPS.
Illegal crossbow wth. Springfield, missouri is where you should go, it's the original and massive.
I recon the BCF tackle shop in Townsville domain would give the bass shop a run for its money
Great things about Australia:
1. Fantastic fishing.
Okay, that wraps it up.
My thing is aquarium fish and Australia is home to many varieties of Rainbow fish, there are also several in New Zealand and Papua ,New Guinea .The Rainbows are attractive fresh water small to med sized fish and even seem to develop a personality if a fish can thought to have one.
You didn't even go to the hunting and firearms section of the store.....City folks...?
Lol can’t have a cross bow. We can literally hunt with helicopter mounted machine guns in Texas.
Sadly Bass Pro destroyed Cabela's with their crappy in-house brands.
Yeah, in Fish and Game areas in the US, we take this seriously. We don't care where the stuff is from, if it's great, we'll put it in our Bass Pros.
Sucks Bass Pro bought Cabelas, but the Cabelas stores are still 100x better than Bass Pro.
My understanding is that the fish in the tanks are representative of what is available in the local waters, so you might see different fish in different parts of the country. IDK if the stores near the oceans have a saltwater tank(s) because I am in Arkansas and not near the ocean at all, but perhaps someone from a coastal area who has been to a local Bass Pro Shop can comment on this.
There’s a Bass Pro near where I live (Foxborough MA) that’s two stories, has a restaurant and a giant shooting range in the back.
I think the first thing a tackle shop should have is a nice big fish tank stocked with local species. You walk in to buy a couple of tassie devils, see a couple of 12 - 15 pound rainbow or browns, the blood starts to flow and you walk out of the shop spending $500 😂
Haha was this a Russell Coight version of Bergy vids 😳😆🤦♂️
This is only an Outpost which is the smallest of the BP outlets. Go to any BP in the south and this entire outpost will be the second floor of the larger stores.
Bass Pro , where you can get anything you want for 40% over market value LOL
Nanny state will come for anything that makes you self sufficient.
Each bass pro is a little different depending on the area. So a bass pro in Montana is going to be more hunting focused than fishing. The ultimate fishing bass pro is in ft meyers Florida or really and coastal Florida bass pro
It might have been worth it to fly to Memphis to visit the bass pro shop based on your interest. Btw the store started in Springfield, MO.
As an American I’ve only ever stepped into a bass pro shop to look at the ponds, besides that everything else is overpriced and can be bought for cheaper at a mom n pop sports store, plus the mom n pop stores usually give a dog a bone just for being loyal customers
You need to go to Springfield Missouri world headquarters store. Takes hours to go through it
Go to their HQ in Springfield Missouri !!!! 3x as big !!!!
i heard about barramundi on 24/7 4wd on you tube. it is like a prehistoric bass. lol
Great video!! Thanks Mark
lol I just went today, crazy I see this recommended, I even got a trucker hat
The one near Fort Walton Beach Florida has 3-4 goliath groupers in their tanks.
They caught themselves a 22 pound channel catfish out of the fish tank!!
It's about how many people you serve in terms of the scale of store.
This isn't even one of their big stores, just an average sized one. Some of their stores are much bigger than this one.
If you go to a Bass Pro shop near the ocean, you will see more lures and gear for saltwater fishing.
Ahhh if u wanna do a first time bass bro shop video, you do Memphis.
Crossbows are illegal? WWWHHHAAAATTTT????? WTF, Australia!? WHAT... THE... EFF!?
You can get them, just restricted under licenses like firearms, I think some states totally prohibit them, but yeah, they're controlled.
Very awesome looking shop!! Lots to see
Hey Bergy. Great video. Where did you get your flanno?
