Ian, just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you. Went through one of the hardest losses I possibly will ever experience in my lifetime this week. Seeing you gave me genuine comfort today. Keep being you and doing your thing ❤
As a veteran hiker and primitive camper, I've tried all of these. The Mountain House lasagna is really good. I like to make a campfire frybread to dip in the sauce. Another great MH meal is the breakfast burrito mix - you don't need tortillas, I just eat the mix as is. It's better than their regular breakfast entrees.
In Norway we have REAL Turmat, and while hard to find and rather expensive, they do resemble these but seem to be a little better quality and some more thought put into what should be and what shouldn't be in them. When I read biscuit on the package Ian chose I felt that it was a horrible idea*. As while some baked goods are delicious to dip into a soup, stew, or something, it's good because you do it yourself if you understand what I mean, so one can decide the level of soggyness oneself. And if they manage to make it not get soggy, was it probably dipped in some weird chemicals beforehand... But yeah, freeze dried meals like these can be really delicious if done right and I've bought a week's worth just in case something happens with the war so close by... I probably should buy more... and some jerky... And some more cans of fruits and vegetables for vitamins and stuff..! * in Spain they sell chocolate milk with chunks of Marie biscuits/cookies, which also gets a nope from me.
@@TeruteruBozusama honestly the idea of biscuit pieces was a little odd to me,... when i go hiking i just take some biscuit and a bottle of milk. pop that into a dutch oven and you got a nice little shortcake! i think thatd be more appetitizng.

@@MaxW-er1hm Yeah, but I find them on sale for like 7 or 8 bucks locally. It also helps that I don't actually eat them for every meal. They're better than anything I could make in the backcountry, at least considering the weight. Water you just filter on-site so that's not even an issue.

@@BackForwardPunchIf you're backpacking multiple miles into the middle of nowhere, food and water are usually the heaviest part. The dehydrated nature of this stuff makes your food pack a lot lighter. If you're just setting up a tent once and staying in one spot a cooler or two tends to be a better option, but if you're camping at a different site each night this stuff comes in handy.
You need to add less water. I'm not sure why they tell you to put so much in. I put maybe 2/3s in and it comes out better. Also never get the ones with eggs. Freeze dried eggs never taste right.

@@Drownedinblood might still be open at some locations, but yeah the one I worked at never reopened its grill even after the pandemic
I’m just in love with the time and care that the editing must have taken. The editing is just amazing quality and severely humorous.
BrutalMoose is that one channel that I remember exists like twice a year and immediately binge-watch all the new videos.
ian using the packaging from the food as props for the skits in between food is absolutely genius
@corbinauriti7807 Hopefully those people take it with them but I doubt it...I mean most probably do but there'll be a few who won't.
@corbinauriti7807 that's why most people just throw their trash in the fire
Ian is still the only person making videos I know of that actually makes their sponsored segments worth watching
Ian, what a treasure your videos are. Just when I think you can't get any better you step it up a notch! The callbacks, the casual litter, the epic hello fresh ad, its all incredible. Amazing work, sir. You are a true master of your art.
Ian, just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you. Went through one of the hardest losses I possibly will ever experience in my lifetime this week. Seeing you gave me genuine comfort today. Keep being you and doing your thing ❤
❤️❤️❤️ hang in there
As a veteran hiker and primitive camper, I've tried all of these.
I love how you create your videos. They’re always Fun and nostalgic. Plus it’s like a mystery tape sometimes you don’t know what to expect.
Dude Ian your one of my favorite UA-camrs, I know you will probably never see this but, keep up the good work my dude! :D

Is it weird that I'm always just as pumped for the off the wall Hello Fresh adds as I am the rest of the video? Absolutely flawless advertisements tbh
Your editing is scarily good
The editing on his videos is magnificent
As a camping / backcountry hiker, those mountain house meals are legitimately my favorite thing. Sometimes I'll eat one instead of cooking dinner just cause they're so good. The Biscuits and Gravy one is my favorite breakfast one, right after the Breakfast Scramble. Chili Mac and Beef and the Beef Stroganoff are my favorite dinner ones. God I wanna go to REI and buy some now :(
10.00 each though, is insane
@@MaxW-er1hm Yeah, but I find them on sale for like 7 or 8 bucks locally. It also helps that I don't actually eat them for every meal. They're better than anything I could make in the backcountry, at least considering the weight. Water you just filter on-site so that's not even an issue.
@@Coconutsales you got to pay for that freeze-dried convenience I guess ,I was just thinking I'd take a tupperware with me. That's about double the cost of a freezer meal to be freeze dried. Not THAT bad , but no bargain.
I want to try them now, lol. If they were cheaper I'd stock up for emergencies-which I'd guess they feel justifies the higher cost....
The inaccuracy I found in you shooting the eagle was a game warden not popping out of a bush. They got em in every other bush, its insane the manpower and budget they have. Sometimes I find one hiding out in the trashcans behind the restroom building. My friend said he accidentally brought one home with him after a hunting trip, they are INCREDIBLY hard to get rid of once you get one inside. He’s tried several brands of spray and traps
Your sound edit on that ice cream sandwich had me smiling every time it happened. What a perfect way to convey its texture when the viewer can't experience it for themselves, and the 'food words' don't cut it xD
The entire video completely rocks! Even the ad thanks to Luke's amazing talent for music! And I gotta say, I've been watching every video on this channel since I discovered it over a decade ago with the Lego Racers video, and I still can't believe how consistently funny and original Ian's editing is. It really impresses me and I think he is genuinely the best comedic editor I've ever seen. The subtle edits, the crazy ones, the restraint when it matters, it's just so good and so artful. The tone is one of a kind and I love it. Keep on rockin Brutalmoose.
I absolutely love this human for the sheer lunacy he brings to our humble lives! We aren’t worthy. ❤
So glad BrutalMoose got to spend some time outdoors, getting fresh air, and living the camper life.
As someone who enjoys both backpacking and Brutalfoods videos, this is a niche crossover of interests I never expected to yet am pleasantly surprised to see.
How did I know the Hello Fresh song was Yungtown immediately? What an iconic duo.
I think the mold has gifted you with additional creative genius Ian. Those transitions had me laughing out loud multiple times

Unironically the Mountain House stuff is pretty great when you're camping, but boy is the biscuits and gravy stuff gross.
Why not just bring food and a cooler?
@@BackForwardPunch Unless you're going to camp right next to your car nobodys lugging that shit around
Why does everyone force the use of unironically in 2023 and usually doesn't even use it correctly. Now that's Ironic
Your editing style is incredible, Ian. It adds a unique flair to your videos and really hits all the notes it wants to. Awesome, dude.
Without the editing it would just be another video of a moose eating crappy food. That's why I never get frustrated that it takes over a month for a new video. Quality over quantity.
"Honey! You're gonna love this! I covered dinner today... And it's freeze dried!" Made me laugh so hard people stared.
Your signature editing style never fails to bring me joy. Love you man
Those freeze-dried meals really are pretty great when you’re out camping/hiking. In terms of just decent tasting food that is super lightweight for the amount of calories it provides they can’t be beat. Also so simple to prepare.
But they’re extremely expensive for the calories as well lol. Not really an affordable option esp if you’re backpacking for multiple days
@@maddieb.4282then by all means eat bugs. Never once have I though “wow I won’t be around food readily and could actually starve, still better save that $20”.

Ian, you're not alone in getting some MRE vibes off the individual packaging on those pizzas. It looks EXACTLY like what you'd get out of an MRE. even has FRH instructions.
It’s actually included in an MRE same brand makes them. If you are curious it’s “meal 23 pizza slice, pepperoni” as far as MREs go it’s actually decent although it didn’t come with skittles so no deployment bargains. 7/10. From my understanding the pizza MRE started in 2019.
I get the feeling that Pizza was military surplus

I can't believe he was able to visit such exotic and amazing places, that explains why it took so long for the next video
I haven’t watched a BM video in years and honestly I forgot how funny his videos are.
My dad took us to cabelas twice as kids. It was a magical place, the big one in ohio. They have an entire fake mountain with various ecosystems inside thr store, and an entire fake pond with big fish, like grotesquely large bass.
Sounds amazing! Need to put that on my list of places to go on a quest too
The one near Baton Rouge LA has a nearly 200 pound alligator snapping turtle. His name is Fred c:
I live just an hour from Las Vegas and they have a massive Bass Pro Shops there too! It's adjacent to a casino and even has an entrance between the shop itself and the casino's aquarium. The store itself also has aquariums and it has boats and stuff on display. They even do the whole "visit Santa Claus" thing during Christmas time.
@@saturniidspectre the vegas one has the largest pyramid in north america
Got thrown out of that very store. If they don't want people fishing in the pond they should put up a sign. Geez.
I'm so thankful for you man. There's been so many youtubers from my formative years that have either left or just declined over the years, and you're one of the few that I still look forward to seeing a new video from. Great stuff as always, Ian.
i was way too high for the “i’ll be back in 5 mins” bit especially cause i’ve been having internet lag problems lately. that was surreal
They remind you of MREs because those pizzas are EXACTLY THE SAME THING that they put in MRE Menu #23, Pepperoni Pizza Slice
