I like my R40. When I bought it, I wasn't buying a camera, an Internet browser, a game, or a Space-X rocket... When I bought a telephone, I was actually buying (and this may come as a shock to some) A TELEPHONE. Yeah, I know, who'da thunk it!!!
@@reachnandiniI think they mean they were buying a phone for original use that phones were intended for, not for the camera or other things which have been added with the smart phones used currently.
I have just received my Aspera r40 so I would be very interested to see more videos about it! You are the only youtube account I have seen who has one :)
fellow dumb phone user here :) i love seeing people talk about their (especially positive) experiences using a dumbphone, it gives me hope that companies/cities will continue to provide offline alternatives to facilities (like concerts, public transit, etc)! currently using the nokia 2780 that i picked up at the end of last year and although it’s not great, it’s so much better imo than using smartphones. you really start to notice how way overstimulating smartphones are when you use one for a bit after using a dumbphone for a while
Thank you for the comment. I think you've nailed it there. I've definitely felt the inconvenience of not using a smart phone but it's still worth it! I agree about needing to have offline options too
the build quality is really bad (screen, keypad, plastic, etc.) and kaios is pretty bad. The biggest thing for me though was the call log didn't work and it became pretty annoying when I need it for calls.I had it for almost a year and while some people dislike it way more than I do, I think for the price it's definitely livable and I could have for sure lived with it longer.@@pqs2000
@@pqs2000 you didnt ask me, but i recently got the nokia 2780 this past weekend as i made the switch to a "dumbphone" as well and i personally can't think of anything that isnt great about it other than how long it takes to text. HOWEVER, i dont mind that bc i will just make a phone call instead. Other than that, i love it! it's doing exactly what i wanted it to do. assist me with disconnecting from the smartphone addiction and refocusing my mind onto things i actually care about.
Great review! I have been looking into non-smartphones. I live in the States and WhatsApp is not as important here. Where I live, we use group texting through the native messaging apps. Is there group texting on this device? Praying for the growth of your channel:)
I am hoping to switch to a “dumb” phone soon! I’m a fan of the bricks. I wonder if I can find this model in the U.S. Similar to you, I plan on keeping my iPhone around and treat it like an iPad for music, maps, camera, etc. Thanks for the review! Now I know to look for Bluetooth, hotspot, and maybe map accessibility in my new phone :)
Hi! Planning to buy a dunb phone soon, living in Australia. The only features that im after are Whatsapp and Maps. You mentioned WhatsApp but what about Maps? Thanks in advance!
So the opel touch flip I bought was faulty and the location services was unserviceable. I’ve just ordered this and cannot wait. Could you elaborate on what your usage is like and what you get from the battery. 2400mah is pretty sizeable for a feature phone.
Hey, thanks so much for this review! So helpful for someone looking to get a dumb phone. I do have a question... Can you delete Facebook off it? Thanks Anna
Thanks - I bought a pocket radio so I use that when I'm out exercising, I listen to the radio in my car and sometimes I'll pre-download podcasts or music onto my ipad
Would it also be possible to use a web browser and play spotify from that? The Aspera R25 has a web browser but not sure if Spotify would work with it.
I just got the phone, but I find the call volume very quiet. You can hit the up button to turn the volume up (from 1-5) during the call, but at its loudest setting I can hardly hear the person on the other end. Also the speaker volume is disappointing. Do you find the same? May be I just got a dud.
I think I figured it out. As soon as I got the phone and set it up I bragged to my son that I could run the tap over it. Then I tried making calls etc. It was quiet. Now it has dried out properly (I guess) it works fine.
Hello! I just put my smart phone sim in the dumb phone so that plan has carried over. I'm with amaysim and it costs $18 per month. The phone also connects to wifi so you could use youtube then if you don't want a data plan.
@@Bella_Dixon Hello to you. 😁 Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated. Here a little something that occured to me a few weeks ago. Don't know why it didn't occur to me a long time ago. Getting old, I guess. As you pointed out, one doesn't need a data plan to get WIFI. Don't even need a plan of any kind. Just a charged working phone. Preferably a smartphone as they have the most functionality. But I Iike your suggestion. Thanks again. 😁
I miss the days of dumb phones. When they made you work for that text message on the keypad. People talked to each other more and were less tethered to technology.
It would be partially supported depending on the frequency bands your provider uses. The R40 should support most European and Asia Pacific providers, but North America uses odd frequency bands. R40 supports these: 4G bands 700/850/900/1800/2100/2600Mhz (1/3/5/7/8/28a+b) 3G bands 850/900/2100MHz 2G bands 850/900/1800/1900MHz
I envy you for having a phone that can use sns apps like whatsapp. We still have dump phones in Japan, but only those that can use phone calls and short messages. We use a communication app called LINE, but such apps are not available on dump phones.
Calling these 'dumb phones' really irks me. So much technology and expertise that most of you couldn't dream of understanding. Maybe the phone isnt the 'dumb' one in this equation.
They are called “dumb” phones bc they offer much less functions than “smart” phones. How would you call them? Little telecommunication computers with complex, but significantly inferior functionality to smartphones?
This phone is running Kai OS which is a striped down version of of Firefox OS now dead. Pretty slow but functional. This is what you need for digital detox. Nokia and Alcatel Kai OS phones are way better than any other Kai OS phone out there.

How d you sync the contacts? Does it have google sync to Gmail...
