If you live in Europe and only fly to the US, use American to get direct flights. If in Asia/Africa, use BA. IF in South America, use American. If in Australia, use United/Qantas. Very limited drink services, inedible food and especially the breakfast granola with a yoghurt has been incredibly disappointing. Have had a way better time on BA
BA is rubbish. Regularly travel for business and the planes are dirty, tickets are expensive, and business class doesn’t compare to other airlines. When I have a choice, I’ll always choose another airline.
I remember as a kid BA was the best. Nowadays most BA fans seem to mostly display jingoism rather than any hard facts around how or why BA is superior.
British Airways every time. BA actually make seat selection a reward for their own frequent fliers (rare) but sucks if you are not a member. Club suite, as they call it, is among the better variants of European/American business class seats. Their new first class is being revealed soon and 100% of their heathrow based fleet will have the new business class seat by end of 2025. All their 777s have it, 787-10s have it and all A350s. Just 787-9 and A380s left to refurbish. I'd pick American if £100 or more cheaper.
Solid response there… curious to know what their new first class cabin will look like… I never fly first, I just want to see how much they want to compete against their rivals in this space. Frankly, I’d just offer business class as their premium offering as it’s a solid product.
The reality for most of us passengers is we'll receive virtually the same painful and mediocre long-haul flight experience in the back half of the plane no matter what logo is on the outside, so I never choose an airline based on any factor other than price (ultra low cost carriers excluded). That said, I actually liked flying intercontinentally on AA a little better than BA: slightly more modern and comfortable cabin/seats and friendlier service.
I fly PHX LHR every 3 months and have the choice of BA or AA. I choose BA every time for 2 reasons - 1. BA’s flight attendants are always fun, polite and chirpy and 2. BA’s food is far superior. Sadly, the Heathrow experience is awful regardless who you fly with.
Bingo re the Heathrow experience...their ground ops are an absolute f***ing shambles., and the airport itself must have been laid out by M. C. Escher during an LSD trip.
BA, for the quality of pilot training alone. I've flown into Heathrow druing a storm with heavy turbulence, very likely some windshear during landing, the pilot made a few jokes over the PA system and buttered that landing.
@@samuelren3405only if the reactive windshear system triggers. if the windshear is minute, it will not trigger and the pilots will not have to perform a windshear escape manoeuvre
I'd pick BA. Maybe I've been lucky, but I have had surprisingly pleasant experiences with them. And the service has been fantastic on every flight I've taken with them.
If you are planning to use miles to fly in or out of LHR, the answer is super easy. BA will hit you with insane taxes and fees to use your Avios miles. Virgin does the same. AA does not charge those taxes.
American for sure. BA has an identity crisis....charging the same as American, but charge for everything like they are Ryan air...American pricing is straightforward.
@@HekateMGO it felt like I had more with BA. As someone who’s 6’2 I felt like I got more height on the chair too, in American my head had nothing to lean on as I was taller than the chair. Plus you get the extra storage by a window in an a380. Maybe I just hit really unlucky in the 777 and got an older one.
I live in the UK and I never fly BA. Every flight I've ever taken has been terrible. Late departures, lost luggage, awful catering, disinterested staff - their service just continues to decline. I'd rather pay extra for a different airline.
I just flew BA today, I cannot believe how poor the whole experience is. Like I’m actually in shock, I haven’t flown with BA for about 15 years and sadly I wish I never flew with them again because it’s completely ruined my image of the company. Quite frankly it’s a national embarrassment.
Flew with PIA recently it’s even worse never taking it again, especially when airlines such as Qatar, Etihad, and emirates connect Pakistan, PIA is a joke.
This is true, I flew premium eco with BA a few months back and paid $90 for a seat. I assumed a seat would be a given considering the premium cost, but no. Service is far superior to AA though.
If you were flying business or first, and not coach, I would pick British Airways as they have more large body aircraft with bigger seats unlike the opposite on American Airlines.
I personally like the door so would choose BA based on that, but both are fine. Virgin is probably better but the issue if you live in the UK is that you can’t use points/status on intra-European flights (for which BA points are invaluable and can make flights almost free given taxes are lower) which always makes me stick with BA despite worse service.
IF given a choice, I would go with BA over AA any time because AA has become less concerned about customer service in recent years, especially with reducing leg room and lost luggage. AA is the last aerline I will consider flying unless there is no other choice.
I would pick American. BA still has their old hard products on their a380 - on a route I commonly take. If I’m paying business class fairs, I want a decent product. AA offers that, and their lounge and other OneWorld carriers for that matter, are better than BAs at Heathrow.
The BA arrivals lounge really needs a renovation, so if all things are pretty much the same perhaps AA is a better option if you want a nice shower on arrival.
Mine was on a British Airways from London to Lisbon, legit had lukewarm water and I had to dip the bag in it and mix it around, I paid for the coffee too!!

American Airlines operates significantly more aircraft and thus way more flight hours without incident. AA pilots are competent you have no reason to say otherwise.
Just from my and my dads previous experiences in both airlines, BA 100% We’ve never had poor service on a flight with them and in general everyone has been lovely. They’re usually very efficient (though not up to the standards of airlines like Singapore and Emerites [spelling pls]) they’re a decent choice for what I would consider a mid range airline (not cheap by any means but DEFINITELY not as expensive as Qatar and similar airlines.) I won’t say there aren’t problems tho, the seats could be a little roomier on the more expensive seats, catering out from the uk (particularly Gatwick and heathrow) is usually decent but can be dodgy on returns depending on where they get the catering from. Could always be cleaner, some of the planes are a little old and tired and in need of an overhaul but all in all a nice airline to fly with, never had any problems with them. AA however. Wow. The rant my dad could go on from lost luggage to shit food to cancelling his flights left right and centre (a fun trend that all of the America based Airlines (Delta, United, AA) seem to have). My dad travels to the US and across it a lot for work so he’s tried most if not all of them.
Even though I’ve never been on AA while I’ve used BA, I’d pick AA, why? Because AA hasn’t caused either of my parents to be stranded in a different country for 6 months. But I’m being forced to fly BA for a school trip so I’m hoping I don’t get stranded
Every time I’ve flown AA something has gone wrong. From sitting 2 hours out on the tarmac to staying overnight at the airport because of a cancellation, literally every time those two words showed up on my ticket something has gone wrong. That is why I will NEVER choose AA over any airline
I fly American Airlines a lot and am the top tier of frequent flier (exec platinum not concierge key). The food on American isn’t good even in international business class (although I had a decent chicken breast on my last flight from Dublin to Philadelphia). Even the ice cream sundaes aren’t as good as they used to be, and they got rid of the warm nuts on domestic flights. Plus now American rarely gives domestic upgrades because they have the new program to sell 1st class seats and it’s impossible to upgrade to business for international. I remember years ago my first international flight from Denver to London on United I got a business class upgrade because I was silver status on us airways - the short ribs I had for dinner were amazing. But those days are long gone, being a frequent flier now only means AA gives you the stuff back they took away last year. For as much as I fly American, I’m not a fan - but I think all airlines are terrible now. If only someone treated passengers like they used to
My take is - Fly the airline of your destination country. Airlines landing at their own hubs are more likely to have a better gate than foreign airlines. That's less time spent walking at the unfamiliar destination airport.
