The Six Wives album has been a constant companion to me since it first came out all those years ago... good times and bad it’s always been there to reassure the heart and lift the spirits. You cannot ask more of a work of art, thanks Rick you gave us all something extra special.
It is still, for me, his unbeatable best. His first 3 albums remain unsurpassed - with the possible addition of Return to the Centre ... IMHO! ... other opinions are available! 😊
@@caroleann_2142 with David Bowie and Elton John he was a paid session player. Sabbath is a bit different story. Yes were recording "Tales of Topographic oceans" in adjacent studio in the same time when Black Sabbath recorded "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". Wakeman was a pal of Ozzy, Tony(Iommy) and Geezer, so they asked him to add keyboard arrangement to the song, which he did almost for free (for beer, exactly). Also at one point Wakeman considered to join Black Sabbath as full-time member of the band. His son Adam continued on-off romance with Sabbath and Ozzy Osborne later as session and touring member
MrTommy4000 -- he does pick good ones... Can you imaging auditioning? But I don't understand why he performs w/Ashley Holt. Does he know where the bodies are buried? ;-) Just a good friend. Put working with him after Jon is just incomprehensible. Maybe it's me. I still love the original "Journey..." though.
it is a lefty bass though. i guess he played most of his life on a righty and finally bought a lefty but needed it strung how he learned it. gotta do whatcha gotta do!
Great version of Catherine Parr, saw Rick and Tony with the English Rock Ensemble at Hammersmith Odeon in 1976 and a few times subsequently, I’m guessing Ashley Holt was on vocals at this show as usual ?
I prefer the version on the D-50 pan flute. That was mesmerizing. This is better equipment in this video, no doubt, but there's nothing like the pan flute solo. Love Rick Wakeman, and his drummer.
No disrespect to Keith Emerson or Jon Lord but the keyboard king of prog rock is Rick Wakeman. He was playing the London Symphony Orchestra at the same time he was recording with Yes back in the 70’s
I used to have it that Keith was the best Hammond organ player, Rick was the best pianist and Moraz was the best synth player. At least this is what I thought as a teen after a bong hit in the 70’s.
@@ER-me1ii I would say the John Lord was a better B3 player than Keith, and Keith was a master of the synth. Thing is, not a lot of Yes’ music had really involved B3 sounds. But that solo Rick does on Roundabout gives you a taste of how prolific he could be when needed.
@@TheLarry82 Not “just my” opinion. The opinion of most keyboardists. No one has the resume that Rick Wakeman has. But yeah, sure … it's a bit subjective.
@ well I've heard many keyboard players say something completely different.. but anyways I like Wakeman, he’s not my favorite but i certainly consider him one of the greats
He manages to retain all the old synth patches somehow. It sounds almost identical to the synth sounds on the album. How do you remember how to twist all the dials after all these years?
The bass player is playing a left-handed bass, left handed, BUT it's strung right-handed. He must have learned to play flipping right-handed bass over, then used the lefty anyway cuz the knobs are better located. If I had to guess. I know cuz I've dealt with all that. My 1st bass was right-handed, so I restrung it & played it lefty style. Teaching myself guitar years later, I just kept strings on borrowed guitar righthanded, and flipped it so low E is on the bottom. Feels normal to me, now. Nothing to do with wicked good keyboardist Rick Wakeman, I know. I wonder what handed he is?
drumer is really good........rick is always fantastic...Does he have a bathrobe on? Years later, they would find me in the walmart parking lot, waiting for the zombie apocalypses

Master of all things keyboards
Rick Wakeman has great personality. Not only fantastic musician, but also fond of jokes

The master with the excellent Lee Pomeroy on bass.
Música e Compositor fantásticos!
He played a lot of keyboard parts on Sabbath records. His price? All the beer he could drink. Cool dude.
He played for Bowie, and so many others

Happy 75th Birthday Rick.
One of the many that kept me sane during my formative years , thanks big guy !
Tony and Lee with Rick. How cool is that.
Very fond memories of being in the crowd at Cropredy watching this !

Funny... Rick Wakeman at Fairport Convention's annual festival!
To me, this was the best band that ever played.
Rick's fingers are pure magic.
Keyboard king
We'll all be worm-meat in 10 years. But, Rick is one of the greats.
Amazing.
Fantastic!
I had that vinyl.

He is blessed to not have arthritis at this present point in time
Lucky for Rick, he actually plays with really good technique and finesse.
Grate.
Rick e Rick!
There's always a few idiots who think that talking while a musical genius is playing, is a good idea!
I do hate that! If they want to yatter go somewhere else or shut the f*#k up!
I totally agree
oh man ! that sound effect at 3:03 is sick !
Lee Pomeroy already up to speed for Yes music later.....
Lee is brilliant 👍
Is drummer Tony Fernandez? He is great as always
Yes it is
Thanks! But I wish it had his whole intro, everything after the previous song.
Sorry, this is all that I recorded on video

Patches, VSI (Virtual Sound Instruments) You can configure synthesizers with all the sounds you need on sage!
Very ELP!
Very Wakeman to me. ELP were heavier in some ways. A subtle difference.
