I'm amazed at how quickly these water heaters need maintenance. I have an Ariston 4 Gal which is pretty much identical to the Bosch in appearance. I installed it in 1998 and never replaced the anode rod. The tank just failed last week and when I pulled the element and rod it looked pretty much like the one in this video. I don't know if the quality has gone down so much or if I just have good water or good luck. I'm reluctant to bother replacing it from all the maintenance frequency I am seeing in several videos, and articles. Why can't they move the anode to a easier to replace location?

What kind of chemical did you use to clean the anode rod?
CLR or Distilled White Vinegar and a bristle brush…
