    I use this tank as a mobile groomer. My tank has been in use for 6 years. I never knew about any maintenace (got lucky) I am having an electrical failure (indicator light was not coming on and tank was not heating) Thank you for walking me through gaining access to temperature controller. Now I see the rust corrosion. I will be buying a new one. Thank you. And thank you for links to parts and service manual.

    I just went through this! I installed mine Dec of 2017. It started leaking March of 2023. Made quite a mess. Insides looked same as yours or worse. I bought a new one plus an anode rod! Will be checking it in a year. Thanks for a helpful video.

    I replaced my whole house tank with a plastic one made by Rheem 40 gallon I believe . They give a life time guarantee made of plastic no rust problem , about $400 CDN a more than a regular metal tank . Not sure if they make ones small like yours . I have a a couple of plumbers tell me they are good tanks .

    I cleaned and replaced anode once a year. Went 10 years then tank leaked. Been a good unit but no maintenance will destroy it in a few years.

    Nice video! I am installing this unit in an RV and before I finished plumbing it with PEX tubing and connectors, I very briefly turned the unit on and saw no indicator light come on, even when the Bosch was turned up to the highest setting (very briefly) Checked my electrical connection and that was good. Will the indicator light only come on when it senses water temperature? Thanks!

    Thanks for the video - 2 questions: where is the electrical outlet that your water heater plugs into - was it there already? And, what's the average inlet water temp where you are? Also, the manuals I've looked at for various mini tank heaters describe the effect of thermal expansion on the pressure release valve (lime build up and eventual leakage) in "closed systems" (when a backflow preventer is on the house side of the water meter.) They recommend installing a bladder expansion tank - seems like a lot to add to this little system...

    • @Bassguitarist1985
      @Bassguitarist1985  Рік тому

      The outlet is a GFCI right next to the sink, so it was an easy connection to it. To your question on the expansion tank, if your local code requires a backflow preventer then your house should already have an expansion tank before the install of this POU Mini Tank as your house water tank (if equipped) would require it. In my case my home does not have a backflow and thus no expansion tank.

    • @marthaboyd7713

      @@Bassguitarist1985 Is your outlet down in the corner to the right of the sink? Regarding backflow prevention - this tank will be independent, and I plan to remove existing house water tank. • @Bassguitarist1985

      Thanks for sharing. My apologies on not showing that part. It's only a few Philips head screws that hold the cover on. How I drained it is the hard way, meaning I had to take a full tank and flip it upside down in the kitchen sink to drain it out. There's really no other way to do it.

    Hey one question, the pressure valve relieve should be in what position ?
    If I leave the relieve valve as you have in 12:07 the water starts flowing from there when I turn the water pump on, if I close the valve, it starts leaking from the front side! (behind the dash panel) through the heater piece gasket -_-

    • @Bassguitarist1985
      @Bassguitarist1985  Рік тому +1

      sounds like the valve is faulty or the tank is faulty. The lever shown at that point in the video should be closed by spring tension. In the event of overpressure it opens up spitting the water out. Either debris is keeping it from closing correctly or the valve is bad.

    • @hijodetupa
      @hijodetupa Рік тому

      Oh shoot the reason for leaking was that gasket was loose!

    • @Bassguitarist1985
      @Bassguitarist1985  9 місяців тому

      There is no reset button. If there is power going to the element wires but water isn't hot then the element is bad. If there is no power to the element, then the thermostat unit is bad.

    Water heaters are the #1 most neglected appliance in American Homes. You covered it by saying flush water heater at least yearly. People who have well water or municipal water that comes from wells will have higher TDS (total dissolved solids), mineral content for sure. People who have water supplied from surface water (lakes,reservoirs or rain water) will have an non existent or low amount of dissolved minerals.
    When I was younger I worked for a company that did house line/Water line maintenance work) we would isolate from the supply source an run a recirculated vinegar solution to dissolve out and flush all calcium and iron mineral deposits on homes. This drastically increased the volume and flow on houses who never had it done. If they had a maintenance contract we would replace the anode rods (zinc,magnesium or aluminum) depending on the pH, mineral makeup of their water along with the type of plumbing piping and water quality they had from the source. The company sold filters,softeners and a everything in between. I just was on the maintenance crew side. Now for the last 2 decades I work for the water utility, I've gained an immense amount of knowledge over the last 30 years about water quality and plumbing infrastructure. In short you can have a 6 year warranty water heater last several decades by just simple maintenance. Almost no one reads or remembers the information in the water heater manual. It's a set it and forget it, until it leaks or they no longer have hot water world.
    Great video, I look forward to seeing a 6 month video on this if you are still producing videos.
    The simplest and cheapest thing you can do to prevent sediment is install a simple whole house filter on the incoming side of your house or at least before the water heater as it is nothing more than a sediment trap.
    Greave video Sir. Sorry I'm so long winded. I would love to make informative videos and share my knowledge like you did but my video editing is null.

    if this is installed a long ways from the hot water heater, would it make more sense to connect the cold water line to the Bosch unit? The hot water will never reach the unit before it refills, so you just pull hot water from the main hot water heater and it never makes to it to the tank (and is therefore wasted).

    • @Bassguitarist1985
      @Bassguitarist1985  Рік тому +1

      Yeah if the hot water line was not run to the sink I would certainly do that. For my application I connected the hot water line to the tank because eventually if you were to run it for an obscenely long time the hot water from the hot water heater in the basement would eventually hit the small tank and it would never kick on to heat the hot water since it was already heated. Either way it's the best solution considering how far away from the hot water tank in the basement is
