- Hey Everyone!
This is an update on my original install video of the water heater. 8 months and the anode rod is completely gone! Looks like I have very hard water. Will need to inspect exactly 6 months on the nose to keep the tank maintained.
Here are the links below to help out.

Great Video! However, I would emphasize the need to fully was out the tank with a hose outside to complete get the sediments out before reassembly. IMPORTANT, when refilling the tank, remove the screen from the faucet to allow any sediment to pass through. In filling the tank, suddenly, I had no water (Hot or Cold) passing through the faucet. After waiting a while, trying not to get mad, I removed the faucet nozzle, and it was loaded with sediment. Water then flowed perfectly to rinse out the screen.
@@JimCaldwell-n5y Yes I did wind up doing that with the hose wand as best I could. Swishing it around got 99% of the sediment out of there. But yes I agree taking off the aerator and letting the water run a few minutes is a great idea. Thank you for watching
This video was excellent and came in handy
They bury that anode rod! I had one of these rust to failure by neglecting that anode rod. I wish they would make that easier to service like my RV water heater. I remove the anode rod to drain the RV water heater. Seems Bosch could have done the same. I just replaced our Bosch 2.5 gallon. I guess I will set a calendar reminder for 8 months to check the anode rod. Thanks for posting this video!!
I have a 1.3 gal unit anode on inspection had plenty life in it but want to get spare for replacement can you share a part number or the words you used to search Amazon because I can not find any small threaded ones like you found thank you
@@gregweider7475 I’m not sure. I don’t even see a 1.3 gallon water heating unit available on the Bosch website.
8 months, wow! Good info on servicing yer unit! 👍
Just a suggestion, but write on the outside of the unit when it was last serviced.
@@kriswright1022 I have the maintenance check as an event on my Google calendar :-)
Thanks for this. I have been putting off my replacement anode rod thinking at a year on city water it couldn't be that bad. I pulled mine today and there was nothing left except the rod that holds the anode. It looks like I'm going to check mine at 6 months going forward.
looks like a pita to replace but price to pay for fast hot water at sink, I guess. thanks for the vid
My pleasure thank you for watching!
Thanks, just what I needed!
Good video. Just what I needed. Thank you m
thanks for this - helpful. Appreciate your efforts.
You're very welcome!
liked the video used a lot of water for cleaning
Amazing work; thanks dude!. I wonder about your water quality..
Yeah, its not the best. I'm in a smaller town next to a main city, and we get the city water here while people closer to the other side of town are in the fire district which the water is far better
Did you use dielectric connections? And do you have an after softener? I just installed my 3rd Bosch heater, plumber installed it with Dielectric connections.
@@NH48-24 I did not for the connections or the softener. I may need to do that next time around
Hmm. This seems like more trouble than it's worth. I wonder if there are any better options.
@@David69D even big water heaters for houses have anode rods. It's basic maintenance
Are you on well water and do you have a water softener installed? If not I would have one installed asap. You should also install a whole sediment filter too.
City water. Will have to look into a water softener
@@Bassguitarist1985Definitely di it soon. It will save your appliances that use water and add years to their longevity. A sediment filter will help also
@@YukonHawk1 I flush out my house hot water tank once a year and I just recently changed the anod in that one back in April this year. The next big investment we're going to have to do is put in a new central air system so the water softener may have to wait for a bit.
When I pulled out thermo rod there is a cone shaped rubber grommet. (I think it was from the thermo rod.) Any suggestion what orientation it goes back in? Thanks.
@@TurboMountTV the rubber grommet with the 4 holes? The lip goes inside the tank
@@Bassguitarist1985 No, it is a small little cone-shaped rubber thing, about 1/2 inch, with a cut "slot" along one side, which I think the thermo rod goes into - i think. I just didn't where this thing came from when pulling out the heat assembly. Thanks.
@TurboMountTV I don't recall seeing a grommet other than the large one with the four screws, and I don't see anything on the diagram showing the ground at either. Sorry bud!
Might be a dumb question but I would be installing the 8 gallon Bosch tronic in a 1965 vintage camper... It would go in the under closet/floor compartment and it fits nicely but if I will be hauling it out every 6-8mos for service I'm worried about weight and maneuverability if it is full of water. Is there an easy way to drain this while it is installed so that I can remove it empty and not throw my back out? Great vid! Thanks so much in advance!
There is no drain port on these point of use hot water tanks. Yes that is a lot of water to move. What you could do is disconnect the supply line, and using low pressure (below 60psi) compressed air with the faucet spigot on and the aerator removed, you can use the air to push the water out of the tank. It will be significantly lighter to move at that point
@@Bassguitarist1985 good idea. Might also build in a slide-out drawer for it to sit on like you see in cupboards so I can slide the tank out laterally and then remove it from there.
great video, one question, did you have low water pressure as the rod wears? My unit, 14 months old, still produces very hot water but the water pressure out of the unit has diminished noticably.
Yes. The sediment at the bottom of the tank clogged the aerator screen on the faucet.
thank you but what's odd is only the hot water pressure has decreased, cold water still flows like always, if it was the aerator screen i thought both would flow slower. I have ordered the anode rod anyway, I will service the unit this weekend, thanks again for the great video.@@Bassguitarist1985
@@wrthomas69 you are very welcome. You need to check the inside for sure. Decrease flow means there is an obstruction somewhere. Chances are it's all the sediment. And it may have clogged your faucet valve as well. Do a video and send me the link! Thank you again for watching and supporting the channel!
Great video, I just finished replacing the anode with no problems. 👍😎👍
only last 8 months. most people only check the anode rod every 1-2 years. Where can I get the anode rod? I had an Ariston 4 gallon
I got mine off Amazon. It's part# 7738007315. They fit for most of the small point of use tanks
Does anyone know what the watts are on that heating element and maybe with the part number is
Bosch Ariston Heating Element 994103. 1440W at 120VAC
I can’t believe how much zinc is produced per sink-full. I have very well balanced city water and I get a lot of zinc debris which makes me think they installed anodes which are too sacrificial
Yeah who knows. I thought my city water was a bit better quality controlled. Just means that the maintenance intervals are going to be more frequent in order to prolong the service life
I once had a uv laundry pure water ionizer unit that had a silver anode rod I would have to replace. Yah... there was nothing left. They clamed the thing was nasa tech & no soap is needed. worked well but the waterline solinoid valve in it kept triggering the washers water pressure sensor & it would lock up the washer untill reset with the secret fault reset button press code sequience.🙁 Got old quick when you come back & your washers on strike, "they work better on a washer without a brain"✌👍
Yeah I guess water quality is very important when it comes to your water appliances. I'm still in a bit of awe how quickly that anode rod disintegrated.
@@Bassguitarist1985 I also use a megahome water distiller, If you really want to se how much crud is in your tap water try one of these!
I can only imagine! I used distilled water when I am brewing beer. I then add my own mixture of minerals so I can control the recipe. Sometimes it's better not to know as long as I'm not getting sick on it right haha
why put on the covers, for easthetics... you will need to remove them in 6 months
Easy...the wife
