I would no sooner trust a lawyer
To educate me on biology , then I would choose a molecular biologist to represent me in a criminal trial.
I try to choose the right tool for the job instead of just listening to any old tool blather on.
The funny thing is, the arguments I've seen of his wouldn't even stand up in court. He has this video where he accuses some pro-vax person of 'gish galloping' to make their point - that is, speaking very fast to cover up a lack of substance or a failure of reasoning - and the whole video is itself an epic gish gallop in which the fast-talk hides a grotesque misreading of the material he's citing as evidence. I left a comment pointing all this out and of course he never acknowledged it.
Didn't know at the time that he was.a lawyer. I wouldn't hire him.
Unfortunately, the people that need to watch this (A) won't watch it, and (B) are all but impervious to facts.
And people like you are unwilling to change their minds, even if there’s mountains of evidence that contradicts your beliefs.

I seriously wonder if any of these antivaxxers ever played the game of Telephone (it has many names, but this is the one i know). Like, it is wild how often i will see them quote a talking head, who was quoting a journalist, who was quoting a spokesperson, who was quiting an expert, and then act like there couldnt have been miscommunication or misunderstandings at any of those steps, up to and including their own recollection of the situation. Our brains are generally decent at retaining some general info in memory, but specific words get lost in no time.
i find specific things massively easier to remember than some generically vague non-descript notional crap.

That`s certainly true in adversarial systems of justice, but less true in other inquisitorial systems. Neither is a perfect system, but the US, UK and similar systems sometimes seem more interested in the debating tactics rather than actually finding the truth.

I hope you are joking or maybe you are just referring to people on the left may think it is settled but it is clearly not. Dr. Wilson makes some good points but he also does some suspect moves like how he takes some arguments out of context like shows a 3 second clip of some guy saying something, and expects us to just believe the guy is saying what Dr. Wilson claims he is saying or how many times he claims these studies suggest otherwise but he doesn't even site the studies he is using so be smart and consider what people say but don't outright just trust their word until you do the work yourself.

I recall making similar points to David about 3 years ago, when he was jumping on the antivaxx bandwagon. And when he ran in the election for office, and connected with Ezra Levant and Jordan Petersen, I was done with his channel, as he became channeling the absurd. I used to follow Viva more than a year ago. I concluded he wasn't a very good attorney (perhaps he didn't like the practice much). He did some good online legal analysis at that time but subsequently moved to the dark side, quit law and moved to the US (at least temporarily). I suspect like Dr. John Campbell, he's making more being a denier than a lawyer in Montreal. As it is said, follow the money.

Exactly what happened to me. But I unsubscribed when he started saying very strange things that seemed rage bait to get more views. Then I watched him on a panel on the Johnny Depp trial and was saying extremely sexist s**t. After that I was happy I sus'd him out for the fake he is.

Total layperson here but the point made at about min 20 was how I kind of assumed things would turn out.
I assumed that the myocarditis from the vaccine was a byproduct of the body's immune response to the vaccine and that the virus itself would likely cause much greater levels of the symptom as a result. Glad to hear that my limited sense of things was mildly accurate.
Makes sense too. I heard a lot of people saying that Covid was more of a disease of the blood or cardiovascular system than of just the respiratory system.

This guy is heavily involved with a certain Robert Barnes, who represented Alex Jones at one time and spreads many of the same kind of conspiracies whilst passing himself off as some sort of legal savant, so incredibly expert in all matters legal that judges are afraid to tangle with him....a narcissistic bell end in other words who Viva Frei adores.

You get only a small dose of mRNA that is mostly gone a in a few days . With virus you get not a limited TNA also each virus has 29 spike proteins .

Thank you for this show! I appreciate you and Amesh Adalja standing up for science and for vaccines. Have Amesh on your show some day. He's great at defending this technology and he knows the headaches of treating COVID patients who could have lived had they been vaccinated.

Wrong. Most of the evidence that supports excess deaths came from insurance companies. As much as you hate them, they are honest when it comes to having to pay out compensation.

@@jnmc2498- It wasn't lazy. I listened for 2 hours and Viva Frei didn't have an "argument". The entire time he was fishing for soundbites to exploit.
He never made actual "arguments" that he was interested in discussing, he continually gish-galloped/straw-manned into different topics.
Truther asked multiple times if he had any studies or evidence; he stated that he did not.
Truther stated that he doesn't talk about subjective topics on his space and only the objective data; Viva refused.
Viva constantly claimed things like "You've admitted" or "We agree" when neither was true an in every event Truther/et al corrected him, he simply spoke over them.
Viva made Truther agree that he would never be muted and Viva took advantage of this by ignoring every point made and merely repeating the same nonsense that scientists cannot be trusted.
Yet the *entire* conversation, no one ever asked him to trust scientists. They made one simple request: if there is evidence in the form of data, worldwide, that doesn't require trusting a sicentist.
Viva continued to ignore this.
Most importantly, Viva ignored and lied about the most simple point of all: the very definition of Myocarditis and the mechanism; or how the same person's reaction to the virus produces far worse Inflammation of the heart wall than vaccination.
If you think my short summary is lazy, by all means, include evidence of where I'm wrong and I'll happily include evidence to the contrary.

I think the real issue here, is the deteriorating trust in authority (government/health etc) after decades of corruption in these institutions due to individuals being greedy and companies taking advantage of these immoral persons. At the same time a lack of transparency in these institutions along with total lack of accountability seen to be applied leads to the general public's mistrust.
Add to this the absolute flooding of mis-information in social media, terrible reporting in main stream media (ie clearly opinionated targeted reporting) and high complexity in the topic, causes the public to be overwhelmed - exactly the desired result!
New studies have shown that the majority of risk from COVID and also vaccines may be due to Vitamin D deficiency!! Any vaccine will activate the immune system and this will deplete Vit D, the hormone used in the immune system. If you were already deficient, this may put you in a dangerous position and cause heath issues that would then be attributed to the vaccine!
That said, most vaccines are tested over a period of decades, not months. However, due to the numbers vaccinated against COVID we now have similar data levels to a decade of testing, giving us a better view of their efficacy/issues.
All in all vaccination is a risk/benefit evaluation, the problem is, that we don't have clear advice from the authorities!

I think the issue is the way some people are trying to push and exaggerate this narrative that is another MAJOR issue here. If you want to see corruption, see how homeopathic and naturopathic "institutions" are being protected from regulatory scrutiny, while those same "institutions" happily sell the story about supposed corruption and greed in pharma companies. And guess what keeps regulatory agencies away from these "institutions": political ideologues.

No, this is not what "new studies have shown". New studies have shown how some people simply keep on doing bad science and drawing bad conclusions from said bad science, and hoodwinking gullible souls. But do you know why? Clearly you are once again ignorant of the high complexity of the topic, while being aware that the topic is highly complex. I have a hint regarding that "period of decades" to you: it is *primarily* due to financial decisions at the companies. It is *unrelated* to how many people are vaccinated over the decades, as many vaccines have been approved using significantly smaller clinical trials than the COVID vaccines.

That's because risk/benefit is not a one-size-fits-all for countries. It includes *financial* and *practical* considerations. In some countries we also run into political posturing that makes clear communication essentially impossible. See e.g. Florida, where political posturing affect the communication of the health authorities.

Science lead evidence drives my decisions. My point was about how public miss-trust has evolved. Science isn't easy, it actually IS 'Rocket Science' and, unlike religion, things change as new data/evidence is revealed.

Great video but I’d suggest some care around the suggestion that many people won’t need boosting. Your rationale is that existing B cell memory is sufficient. This may be true, but as we get further from the ancestral strain the risk of immune evasion goes up. This is frequently a misunderstood concept. Studies tend to report a level of neutralization of sera towards the virus which is fine, but it neglects a few features that could become more important in time. These pooled neutralization studies neglect that at a certain point, binding affinity dominates and so the concentration of antibodies is never going to be sufficient to be useful. When you lose a log or more of blinding affinity to a mutant strain, you are getting into trouble, and once we see 2 logs, I’d worry. Right now, worth some of the new variants, those that have not been boosted with the most recent vaccine booster, could have sufficient immune imprinting that they are only ever going to raise predominantly ancestral strain antibodies (the story around the bivalent booster is super interesting and I think confirms that). I continue to be concerned to see the virus continue to evolve quite significantly and is we get close to 2 logs of lost binding affinity, I think we could run into some trouble, certainly for those of us who are older or who have any risk factors.
But I should say, great video. I do think it is important to continue to engage with ant-vaxers respectfully and consistently so that we can continue to turn the tide of misinformation.
If new subtypes have mutated sufficiently to avoid immunity from previous vaccinations and natural immunity, then the proception afforded memory B cells will become less effective. However that from the memory T cells will remain effective as the epitopes to T cells are conserved between subtypes. This will provide protection while the immune system activates the adaptive arm and induces another primary response.
The innate arm is also "trained" by previous infections and vaccinations and can mount a more robust response to subsequent infections.
The main risk is for older people whose T cell response tends to wane rapidly,hence the need for boosters in this group.
Latter boosters will be designed to target latter subtypes, which should be sufficiently far away from the original virus, that a robust immune response will be induced.
