Miami was not stupid in trying to hire the Bear, but I have a sneaking suspicion , Bear Bryant would have despised the pro game. Too many of his strengths might have been wasted on the pros.
Coach Bryant was smart enough to see the Pros for what it is. Spurrier and Saban didn’t quite see that fact. It’s just a different game for coaches who use intimidation and a certain level of brainwashing to win. Not an insult. Just a fact. Guys like Joe Gibbs and Don Shula were just as much politicians as coaches. They have to deal with all those personalities. When you’re a college coach you set the tone and no BS.
Spurrier couldn't coach in the NFL. Saban couldn't coach in the NFL and, I bet The Bear would have had trouble too. Only difference is that he was wise enough to realize ahead of time that the coach isn't the boss of those players like at the lower levels.
