I was born and raised in Los Angeles. Growing up on the west coast, you’d seldom ever hear about the south (Alabama, in particular) in good terms. It was almost always bad. But as I grew up, I realized that there was more to this country of ours (and its people) than the small-minded, preconceived notions we all have about one another. I’ve never rooted for Alabama football, but what this man (Paul William ‘Bear’ Bryant) means to me, far exceeds anything related to just football. I’m glad to have gotten to know about him, about Alabama, about the South, and about our country. Good, bad, or indifferent. My sincere regards to anyone and everyone who understands or has, in someway or another, been impacted by this man’s legacy.
Thanks for that, from the other LA - Lower Alabama. If you haven't read it, check out Rick Bragg's essay for ESPN, "Down Here," which explains many of the things you noticed as an observer from out there. And yeah, if you've ever driven cross-country, as I have many times, there's one thing you learn quickly not only about America, but about humanity in general: most people are like most other people, and most people simply want good things in life, for themselves and others as well. We really need to turn off the TV and put our phone down sometime and be reminded of that.
From " LA" myself ... Thank you it's about all we have here as far as sports. No pro teams etc... but these leaders like bear teach us way more about winning in life than he could ever teach us about winning in ball although it's the same principals.. rest in peace coach
He kept this and read it every day. My time at the University was when Coach Bryant was the face of Alabama football. As great as Coach Saban is, Coach Bryant will always be the face of Alabama football for me.
I really needed to hear this today. My father, who attended the University of Alabama in the 50's before enlisting in the United States Navy was buried this afternoon. Thank you and Roll Tide
I’m sorry for your loss. May he Rest In Peace and May God comfort and guide you and your family during this trying time. I’m praying for you and your family!
My daddy is Navy for 13 years. He got out and worked in mills to support us and made a life.he got cancer last year and beat it! I love my pop! And I go and see him every week.
It's men like your Dad that will be yelling Roll Tide in the heavens. It must be so, because the story of Alabama is no doubt blessed and is now a blessing. Roll Tide.
This hits Your soul an has the power to bring a tear to a grown mans eye. This mans grit was unlike any other. This man is tattoo worthy that's why I wear him proudly on my skin. Win lose or draw life death sunny or stormy I'll always love this man even if I'm 31 and wasn't alive when he was but I've read 5 books about him and watched the only films that's available he's the type you can watch a video an go take a test and ace it bc he powers you.
Beginning speech: This is the begining of a new day God has given me this day To use as I will I can waste it or I can use it for good What I do today is very important Because I exchange a day of my life for it When tomorrow comes This day will be gone, forever. Leaving something in its place I have traded for it I want it to be GAIN, not LOSS GOOD, not EVIL SUCCESS, not FAILURE and I'll shall not forget The price I paid for it.
Uga alum but my dad’s hero was “The Bear.” During these unprecedented times during Covid 19, we need to be more prepared. most of this speech was used to me in life to overcome any adversity. I respect Bama nation. I have the utmost respect for Alabama football. Dad always told me “ I expect nothing less.” RTR Go Dawgs.
Such an amazing coach man I've never played football but listening to this makes me want to play for the guy. He definitely is the greatest college football coach of all time.
Sooooooooooooooooooooo powerful. As a Kansas State Wildcat fan, I respect Alabama more than any other program there is in College Sports. They have earned it.
This is beautiful to hear. A man of great wisdom. From a diehard LSU alum, much respect for Alabama. It’s a joy to beat you on the field when we do, but what culture y’all have. Props.
I was fortunate enough to attend the University of Alabama while Bear was the coach. He was larger than life to me. I met him briefly after I graduated and felt so nervous, like I was in the presence of God. I will never forget that moment. Roll Tide and RIP Coach Bryant. ❤️🏈
Your words ring true forever coach, it's so amazing how he could touch the players loves and use anything in football to correlate to life and how it could make those boys grow into men. Roll Tide forever and always and R.I.P with the all mighty lord and Jesus Christ our savior coach.
#Rolltide Baby. So glad that we are who we are and have had the people to come through Alabama that we have. I even started my channel based off The Process it takes to be A National Champion by our standard. May God Bless everyone who reads my comment.
im going through a hard time looking for a job its frustrating ive havent had a paycheck since april 2023 thats how long ive been out of work ive gone through a lot this past almost year and a half not having a paying job im very depressed and anxious some days i dream that i hear that phone call saying i got a job and some days im just hopeless not have a single care in this world volunteering at goodwill is getting me through those tough days i hold my head high say hi to the customers ask them how their doing and i feel good about that and they do too im not a alabama fan im a auburn fan thanks coach bryant for your words of wisdom rip coach.
Although Coach Saban never mentioned it, I am confident he made sure he never deviated from this very same mental , physical, and spiritual process. Of special note, emotions are not included, only relationships. What a Devine privilege it has been to have lived in the times of the Bear and the Goat, without a nickels worth of difference between them. And there is another champion on deck. Count in it. We in Alabama now expect nothing less. Why? The Bear said so.
@@nicolee.french8534 I was a sophomore in high school Albertville Alabama the hometown of John Hannah he came to the field house to work out the coach let some of the spot for him he was still playing for the patriots at the time that was 1980

Coach Bryant was a great football coach ? But he was and still a greater Man !!! I know this.
"And I'll tell you this...I expect nothing less"

These words of encouragement apply to life, and not only to sports.
I am so proud that we can call Coach Bryant as one of our own.

It does not matter if you are in your teens or your seventies this speech can get you through a lot of adversity
Beginning speech:
This is the begining of a new day
God has given me this day
To use as I will
I can waste it or I can use it for good
What I do today is very important
Because I exchange a day of my life for it
When tomorrow comes
This day will be gone, forever.
Leaving something in its place
I have traded for it
I want it to be
GAIN, not LOSS
GOOD, not EVIL
SUCCESS, not FAILURE
and I'll shall not forget
The price I paid for it.
Even this yellow jacket over In Georgia had to hit that like button. 👍🏻
No one, I mean no one, can argue with any of these words of wisdom!
Even 40+ years later, this is great wisdom for all football players. And most men..
Listen up, men. Coach Bryant is *talking* to you.

The original GOAT. Powerful

There's something about it that makes you cry just reading it I tried to read it aloud and couldn't it definitely goes WAY beyond football
I totally agree. And the hell he battled with alcoholism is just also powerful.@@travisb5922

In case anyone is wondering, the song in this video is called ‘A Song For You’ by the band Be Still The Earth. Just thought I’d mention that.
Your words ring true forever coach, it's so amazing how he could touch the players loves and use anything in football to correlate to life and how it could make those boys grow into men.
