The tri zip was designed to be opened by ripping the top open for quick access. So basically the 2 zippers open at the same time if that makes any sense. The zippers can very well handle it.

When you open just the top of the biopsy does the longer zipper that goes downward stay and not unzip on its own?
no that zipper stays up unless you pull on it.
