I know this video is old. But I sooooo appreciate your level of detail on this review. Very very practical with Mrs GT in giving her thoughts. I nearly purchased an Urban Assault 21L for myself to keep things a little more minimalist (and because I really dig the wood waxed version). But I am a little larger than you and seeing you in the 21 and struggling on the comfort has kept me from wasting a luxury gear purchase.
Just ordered the 27L 2 Day edition. Looking forward to growing with it in/outdoors. Great to hear/see Mrs. GT contributing as well. God bless and be well!
The 21L has a flatter bottom, which allows it to stand up better. The 24L pack has a super slopped bottom and can't stand on its own. It's so bad that the 24L is even tough to LEAN on things if you have a slick floor (wood, concrete, gym floors, etc).
We love it when you bring in Mrs.GT into the segment. Her views matters as most of your viewers are family folks, here in Australia anyway. We have twins girls & an another daughter whom we adopt from USA. That backpack that Mrs.GT was using is similar to ours when the kids were babies. Now all our girls are fully grown & they use that same backpack for their outback adventures. Our girls are into bushcraft & outdoor survival adventures. It has a sentimental value to them, lucky we have three of it, as we rotate its usage. Thank you Mrs.GT, hope to see you more. Cheers & stay safe folks. Greetings from Australia.
Tag teaming the backpack review, love it!! I was debating between a couple bags for my next EDC bag and with my employee discount, no question I got the 24, lol. Thanks for the review!$
I have the 21....the two things I would like to see are...outside bottle pockets and even more important to me...a waist strap/belt. (removable if not needed). When on a bike the bag wants to rotate on my body...a waist belt will help with this.
I have no problem with not having a water bottle holder. I dont pack a laptop or any large electronics and with a good reliable water bottle just throw it in the main compartment and you dont have to worry about it falling off. I use klean canteens, nalgenes and hydroflask. I dont ever worry about them busting open. I find that if im out for a long day with my family i can fit 3 large smart water bottles in the laptop compartment and if i leave one of the top zippers off its just as fast as a side pocket.
I found that the 21L kept curling towards my back at the bottom so the the edge between the back and bottom would rub and kick at the small of my back. Every other aspect of the pack was great.
I generally love MR backpacks. I use a Cabinet for hunting and a 2DAP for backpacking and camping. I bought a UA24 to replace a North Face Surge backpack for EDC. The build quality of the UA24 is pretty good but it has a two issues that really irritate me literally every time I use it 1) the backpack will not stand upright when you set it down. the angled bottom is nice for aesthetics but not practical. the bag flops like a turtle on its back every time you set it down. 2) the water bottle pockets are very difficult to use, even more so than the OP says. The water bottle pockets consume space INSIDE the backpack. if you have books in the main compartment, they make it difficult if not impossible to insert a water bottle into the external pockets. Without fixing these two issues, I would not buy this backpack again.
If I can only have one, would you say 2daypack is the better? Do the compression straps allow for a slim profile when not fully packed? I also have the gallagator on my list. But no molle and I think less rugged material. Any extra opinion is much appreciated!
THX, great review. This comparison is what I needed. My fav brand of backpacks. I have 2x Urban Assaults 21 (older and recent version), US made 3DAP, Hip Monkey and Pitch 20 for fast hiking. Now thinking of getting UA24 and/or Scree 32, more for travel:-) If it goes about shoulder straps on UA21 and a taller people, fit was even worst with former version, when they attached them 4iches up from the bottom. This was pack mostly for women. Recent version fits me much better (I'm 5.11, t-shirt size M/L)
Can you measure the maximum width of laptop layer? My laptop is 10.4 inches. Don't know if it fit that. I would really appreciate that if you can help me!! I need Urban Assault 21.
@@jchen966 laptop sleeve alone is 31 x 25 x 3 cm (12 x 10 x 1.2 inches ). It hangs 1.5 inch over bottom of the pack. But You can fit in it something much taller, there is + 5 inches to the point where the long closing strap is attached to the back panel (so 12 + 5 inches total). It is about latest model of MR UA21 (one from the vid ) with fixed harnessing. Former model does not have stiffer dedicated sleeve just large flimsy pockets, no closing velcro strap also.
@@jchen966 I think that it can be a problem. 26.6 will be rather to much. 25.5 (D) x 2.2 (H) cm hardcover book fits already tight, too tight. I have 14 inch laptop (34x23x 2.5 cm) so no problem here. Maybe UA24 has bigger/wider sleeve? UA21 is rather narrow pack.
Well done on the video, I’m looking for an all around backpack that I can edc for work (can’t carry in Canada...I know😒). I’m looking low vis but tough...what would recommend, Vanquest trident 21 or this. I don’t want to look too tactical, little Molle is ok. Thoughts or suggestions?
Don't agree with a tab on the water bottle pocket. It would have ruined the streamlined look with a tab flapping or sticking out an otherwise very pleasing minimalist look on the bag.
Mrs GT looks so bad ass in those glasses- just look at 13:10- the look of a Bond girl about to kick your backside- yet her voice is so soft and gentle. Crazy!
@@TangoGulf I checked their website and could only find one pack that was listed as American made. Not that any of their products are of different quality but I buy only American and if it's an option I will stick to my own state as well.
Mrs GT has been in multiple videos over the years 👍 In this case, definitely makes sense, since the 21 seems to be designed with a smaller body type in mind.

This is the best comparison of these packs yet. Perfectly laying out what can fit where, and body type fit.
I have the older urban assault model (21l with no water bottles pouch) for a year and a half and all I can say is that the zippers are amazing.

Would love to see a comparison of the 2 Day Assault & Urban Assault 24

well its about time your better half showed up on the videos!

21L excellent pack, especially as carryaboard and day-to-day bag. Streamline to avoid catching down narrow aircraft aisle. A++
I would imagine the 21L would be best for a public transportation day pack.

The most useful video that I need. Thanks you for reviewing those two awsome backpack. Hope you can keep doing such great video.

I was about to pull the trigger on the 24 today until i watched this. No bladder spot is a deal breaker for me
Maybe letting Mrs. GT use the 24l one for a little while...
I run MR almost exclusively or my kifaru rig. MR is great but it kills me they also went out of country.
Wow. The power of relativity: Mrs. GT makes the 21 look bigger than Mr. GT with his 24! 😮

@@evolv76 Thank you for reply!! It give me a great opinion to choose these bags.
great comparison of the 2 bags. great job guys and thanks
Nice pack G. Thanks for the full and thorough review.

Just to add, edc for work as well as light day hike, couple hours etc
Will either one of them stand up on their own without falling over on their front? Thanks!
Great vid thanks for doing it. Daft question but does it have holes in btm like 5.11 rush series?
Very Cool backpack's an thanks for showing them Mr. And Ms. GT !!!!!!!!!!!
great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
May God bless you and your family GT
love your reviews, they are so helpful

What model Columbia are you wearing?

With all your knowledge, you should design your own pack
MR is the shit! I have about 6 of there packs . Use the fire gear too amazing stuff love the mission great people.
Mystery ranch too expensive! You should check out Warrior assault systems very well built and military spec.
all the warrior stuff is made in China :)
It is still very well made, due to very high standards and a lot of the world's military can vouch for that me included.
Not everyone wants to look like G.I. Joe...
Love your vidz
What size is that yeti?
Does the UA 24L fit Mrs. GT? Or is it too long?
At these price points, I’m buying Vertex.
👌👌👌
Worst pack ever, no padding at the bottom, the fram sheet goes directly into my lower back 😬
Is this made in America?
Also would like to know

Made in Vietnam..i have the 24 for about 2 years plus and still going strong
