Hey, really liked the video. I bought some knitting needles a few weeks ago and this encouraged me to actually use them. I do have a question, how long did it take to make the cardigan? The only thing im scared of is it taking too long.
@@sarahmodalla i’ve gotten faster to where i could finish it in 3 days, but for the first cardigan it took me about a week due to a lot of tension making my hands hurt & how slow i was knitting since it was my first time in a while. and that’s about 5-7 hours a day😬
@@ikoxun oh wow. I currently have school so I feel like this is a fun project to do when I finish assignments like at night. I started learning yesterday and when I say I was unable to learn until this video, I mean it! So thank you!!
As someone who's been knitting for about 10 years now, it's always fun and interesting watching people learn how to knit! Its fun and complicated but making something by hand is always very rewarding. Some advice for the newbies, after you learn the basic of casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch and binding off, *PLEASE LEARN GAUGE* . I know it seems complicated, but it is _vital_ when it comes to customizing patterns. Sheep and Stitch did an AMAZING video on how to understand gauge. It will allow you to use different yarns and needle combinations based off of the pattern's measurements. Starting off with hats and cardigans is great because these pieces are made of a bunch of squares and are easy to measure!
AFTER TRIAL AND ERA I REALIZED HOW IMPORTANT GAUGING IS (i have more learning of gauging!) This is so beautiful because once u learn gauge swatch and how many inches is per stitch your life becomes way easier. Hopefully over the years I can improve my learning in knitting because I am a baby knitter!💗
@@dandelions_are_cool gauge means how many stitches and rows it takes to reach a certain size. Yarn labels (and sometimes patterns) include a gauge that usually looks like, for example: 8 rows × 8 stitches = 2 inches × 2 inches, or cm if you're not in the US. This way you can test it by seeing if 8 rows × 8 stitches equals 2 × 2 inches for you in a sample square, and you can guess (or do the math) on how much yarn you'll need to complete your project, if you know how big you want it! Hope that helps xx
Tip for how to make fitted cardigans more comfortable under the arm: Add an extra panel for the side of the body, between the armpit and the bottom hem. We are three dimensional, and this extra panel will better mimic the shape of your body. The thicker you are, the wider this side panel needs to be. If you study sewing or at sweater patterns, the majority feature extra side depth for his reason. The extra side panels will also make the front panels meet closer on the front, since you are adding to the overall circumference.
i cannot even imagine trying to create my own pattern right after figuring out how to knit for the first time. you are amazing! and these are so cute!!
i just wanna thank everyone in the comments because you’re actually helping a lot of people you don’t know how much you’re helping me rn! Especially you Ikoxun you’re such an inspiration I admire your work so much! I’m proud of you ❤
I had started crocheting about a year ago then my grandpa got me knitting needles so I decided to learn to knit and made a chunky scarf! I love these cardigans, I’m totally gonna try them! 💜
Thanks! Long time knitter - and I loved this nice, gentle and yet thorough tutorial that addresses some of the challenges of knitting a sweater (a challenge for any skill level). So many times, they seem to assume we will understand by osmosis. Keep up the good work!
If a friend knitted me a cardigan literally the second they learned how to, I'd probably burst into tears of gratefulnes😆 4 is my favorite~ It's crazy how much improvement in shown in each one. The 1st and 4th were made so close together but the 2nd and 3rd taught so many lessons that they look soo different!
I’ve been a crocheter for over 2 years and have always been intimidated by knitting but you’ve given me a push to step out of my comfort zone! Your videos are always so well made and in depth and I just bought everything I need for this tutorial. Thank you for being an inspiration to a crafter like me :)
You are totally adorable!!! I learned how to crochet from my grandmother about 55 years ago. Over the years I have tried and tried knitting and I can do it but, like you, my hands were used to the speed and easiness of crocheting. My hands would tense up, my body, my head would start to pound and the knitting project would get thrown across the room. What amazes me is your tenaciousness! Not only did you keep trying and trying but you actually decided to invent your own pattern and design. You're young, determined, have a good eye and even though your first sweaters weren't perfect, you didn't let it discourage you. I see great things ahead of you....maybe you belong at Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC? Or designing patterns for upscale knitting magazines? Definitely good things in store for you, clearly you are a creative force to be reckoned with. And what a friend!!! Knitting up sweaters that you designed and giving them to friends right after learning how to knit. My goodness!! Such an impressive young lady - kudos to you and the person(s) who raised such a wonderful girl.
Hey gurl. As a knitter who started knitting the English way ( as you are here) I learned from Arne and Carlos on UA-cam how to knit the Norwegian style which is similar to like how I crochet it is so much faster than the English style of knitting and you have a more ergonomic handhold on the needles which makes it so that your hands aren't as stress you don't get that twitchy feeling when you're trying to sleep and you knitted too much. Not trying to tell you what to do or anything but since you brought my crojo back I figured maybe you might like that tip It might help in the future in your endeavors in knitting cuz I know it helped me
OMG this is just perfect😭I was crocheting for a while and I watched all of your crochet videos. just this week I was thinking about starting knitting and this video came up. ordering needles rn
Another iconic cardigan video !! Ive been loving crochet but I realized I didn’t like it as much for clothes, aside from a cardigan. I made a tank top but didn’t really like the look of the stitches. And I found an absolutely adorable frog knitting pattern; I’m obsessed with it. If I ever hype myself up enough to try I am coming straight here for the basic tutorials again !! : )
i’m the same exact way! i only like crochet for very specific things, but i’ve always enjoyed how knit pieces look a lot more. crochet stitches are very hit or miss for me & it also depends on what yarn is used that will make me like how it looks
Thank you so much for this video. After learning how to crochet earlier this year I’m now stepping into knitting. It literally terrifies me lol but I want to learn and conquer my fear. Your video is an inspiration for me to not give up. Keep up the good work! I absolutely love your videos/editing. ✨

Congrats to you!! I know you pointed out mistakes but all I see is AMAZING! Anything hand made shouldn’t be perfect that’s what makes it rare and unique!❤❤❤
Oh man! Welcome (back) to knitting, and I see you found out pretty quickly how intense it can get... Your cardigans definitely look better than my first go-arounds at garments, though - I like the third one of the most. I would definitely recommend learning to gauge and block sooner than later though, and that's coming from someone who hates it. The way I think about it, I consider it a minor annoyance now for the certainty of a fitted garment later... and then if you're making stuff in the exact same needle size and yarn, you don't have to do it again. That, plus learning how to magic loop, have saved me a lot of hassle. And caused me a lot of hassle. But mostly saved me. You know how it goes... I'm steadily working my way through my attempt to do a patchwork cardigan like yours in knitting. Four patches down, like... eighty more to go. Fingers crossed to get it done before fall really starts!
I just finished my knit patchwork cardigan this summer. How are you knitting yours? I did my squares in a mix of broken rib and the seed stitch. I ended up actually crocheting the ribbing directly on the cardigan for the button band and the collar, but doing it separately and sewing it on so I could get a poofy sleeve for the cuffs and bottom ribbing. I recently purchased some circular needles and am knitting a cable knit sweater. I've never made one before, but I'm having a lot of fun. I'll have to look up what magic loop is; I've only just figured out how to cast on properly. I've apparently been doing it wrong... I hope you're able to complete it before it starts getting cold!
@@journeyhoreis I'm doing stockinette for the panels - I thought about varying stitches on them, but i realized that they might end up slightly different sizes then and that it might look too busy, also. Probably going to do the button band/collar by just picking up stitches, and I think I could get the poofy sleeve effect that way too - you'd just immediately start knitting stitches together. Same goes for the bottom ribbing too, although I'm not sure if I want it to be poofy like that. Magic loop is really useful for anything circular! I've used it for some nice cowls. Best of luck on your sweater! I haven't tried cabling yet, but I'd like to one day.
Loveeeee how they all turned out. I had started knitting a few years ago but then gave it up, this makes me want to go back to knitting 😍. Thank you for all your detailed video. I can only imagine the time you put into it but you make sure we get all the information needed for these projects 🤗❤
wow this is the best, I have been crocheting for a few months now and wanted to get into knitting since i love how knitwear looks. i felt like i was having trouble finding beginner friendly patterns that would explain things like increasing and casting off so i got pretty discouraged ;-; i will definitely be coming back to this video, thank you so much
I cant tell you how genuinely grateful I am for this video, it actually got me thinking I could get into knitting and motivation is hard for me. Thank you! 💜
I'm actually almost done with my first patchwork cardigan for fall inspo'd be you! I had some recycled yarn from a blanket and I knew I finally had to tale it on! I'm not really buddies with knitting either but maybe I'll have to try again some day lool
If you’re hurting you need to get a wrist brace (or two) and give your hands a break for a day or two. You don’t want to give yourself carpal tunnel or a repetitive stress injury! I second what a lot of people are saying to try to learn continental knitting. I learned to knit first but I’ve hear from a lot of people who learned crochet that it was easier to pick up continental (working yarn in opposite hand of working needle) than English (working yarn and needle in the same hand). It will seriously increase your speed and make it easier to not grip it so tight. I’ll add it to the reply but the lady I learned to continental knit from on YT did an excellent job of explaining as well as explaining what to look for when looking for other tutorials for techniques. There’s lots of different reasons to do different cast ons! It can just make the edge more stretchy or firm or can just give it a different look. There’s also a different cast on needed for toe up socks or top down hats since you need to start with one row so it’s closed off but then immediately switch to knitting in the round. I started off learning the long tail as well but more recently discovered the knit cast on which I find is much easier and makes the edge look much neater. You also don’t have to guess how much yarn you’re going to need to cast on before hand. You just need a long enough tail to be able to weave in. I also recently learned that most cast ons have a knit and a purl version and you can even mix them in the same cast on to make the cast on more cohesive with the rest of the piece. I’ve yet to try it but one of these days lol. Sorry for the whole essay but hopefully it helps someone
Oh and I found that (at least for me) that so long as I follow the needle recommendations on the package, the gauge that they put on the pack works just fine in knitting.
OK, I love seeing others in crochet and knitwear. When I put on the very same garments, I look like a cartoon or something. Everyone else seems so gloriously gorgeous to me, and I just hear sad horns when I try stuff on.😂❤❤❤
i am obsessed wit ur videos!!!!! i feel like every time i get into something you already have the perfect vid for it, like i just started learning how to knit and then u released this!! making this asap!!!
Good use of stitch markers. I find that a lot of folks new to knitting underestimate how insanely helpful they are in so many situations. I hope mastering knitting is a fun process for you. Ravelry has been a great place for me to find new patterns to try out new techniques if that's something you want to explore. do remember to take breaks and stretch your wrists, etc. I can't wait to see what this new yarn skill brings to your designs. Your crochet stuff is so inventive and fun I look forward to seeing what you do with knitting, or even combining the 2 techniques. edit: i LOVE the look of the super slouchy bois you made for your friends. i think i might have to use up some of my stash to make me one of those!
I have been knitting for a long time and I am amazed at what you were able to accomplish all on your own! These cardigans are beautiful and you did such an amazing job. I am so happy to see other people sharing their knitting journeys. When I got back into knitting in 2020, I had all the same issues as you except, I wasn't also designing my own patterns. I still haven't designed a lot of my own patterns and have mostly worked from the patterns of others. Great job on your own patterns! I don't have any advice to offer that isn't already in the comments from others. I just really wanted to share my admiration of your fortitude and creativity. :D
I’ve been knitting for about a year now, but still pretty unadventurous in what I knit because I don’t know many techniques. This video was so helpful!! You do beautiful work, and I love how open you are about making mistakes and how you fix your work! ❤️
I don't knit or crochet, but it was so lovely watching you learn, especially because you keep it real all share all your struggles - humans aren't perfect and that's okay
ive been binging your videos lately because im sick and i just wanna say i really love them, they give me comfort and inspiration. and you're so nice for making tutorials as well. So yeah I just wanted to say, fantastic videos!
I love knitting so much in the past after so many years now I crossed your account and my love for knit is coming back… thank you so much, the design the colors are soooo beautiful and YES you are very beautiful
i started loom knitting this year and your videos have been an extremely helpful guide for me. i have no idea what im doing fr but i have 80% of a cardigan put together correctly rn and i think its so cool
I really like crochet and knitting. For the past 2 years I have learned crochet, and this year I have learned knitting. because I really like this things I forget things about my health.and it's so bad. we have plenty of time, don't rush to learn and don't forget your precious self
omgg the right video just in the right time, i started knitting like 2 weeks ago and directly started knitting a cardigan but didnt kno how to inc for arms 🌚 and now i know tyyy
I've been trying to start my own cardigan without an actual pattern and this is the exact video I needed to figure out the little details !! perfectly made!! thank you!
I’ve been crocheting for over five years now and I just started to get into knitting and this vid helps sooooo much! I love all of the designs and I hope that I can make this cardigan one day 😆😆😆
Watching Stevemn universe whilst making something is so real. Also, I just starting knitting when I know how to crochet and you're right, it's way more difficult
Thank You girl! You mare such an extraordinary cardingan! You'll be the most beautiful this autumn. You spent so many hours reserching and gave us all that information...RESPECT!
UA-cam recommended your video and I’m very grateful for that because even english is not my first lanquage I understood everything you explain so easily Thank you very much 🥰
First I start crocheting because I found your channel, now I’m gonna learn how to knit. Thanks for being the one to expose me to the wonder of needle & yarn crafts!😁
Omg the yarn you used for your fall cardigan are all the exact same as I used for my fall patchwork sweater that I made using your patchwork cardigan tutorial, even the white with speckles
continental!! very important to knitters, i think you're using the european style here, the only difference is which hand you're holding the working yarn with. continental is holding it with your left hand, as a (mostly) crocheter it made my knits go much faster. takes a bit to get used to but projects fly by once you know :)
I love your videos. I listen while I crochet. You have great ideas and directions plus very easy to listen to. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos.
You are Brave! I have tried to design cardigans and sweaters without a pattern but I get stuck and give up and get frustrated. I have two crochet and two knit sweaters waiting on me to get over myself and finish them. The colors on the last cardigan were my favorite. Thanks for sharing your journey. Best wishes!
I'm so glad to see you back with a new knitting video this year. Now I'm thinking what I should knit. And this time I have to take care of my back and hands because I hurt them last year, too hahaha
I am also a crocheter and recently started to knit. I struggled A LOT for tension with the right hand... Then found out about continental knitting style. You hold yarn with the left hand, so it's a lot similar to crochet and I found it so much easier to have the right tension! Hope this helps. The cardigans are beautiful anyway aaaaa
love this video! I watched it while knitting and it felt like hanging out and knitting with a friend. The cardigans turned out beautifully- I can't wait to see what else you knit!
very good job explaining casting on for someone with no knitting experience! I picked it up within seconds compared to the eternity during my first foray months ago 😂
Omg yess finally some knitting cause I loved your crochet outfits but I haven't learnt (still working on knitting and and I tried crochet but it was too hard )so I am so happy you are doing knitting now as you make really cool designs
I still can't believe how beautiful ur work is! as someone who just started knitting this video helped me sooooooo much. please make more vids like this!
I seriously love your videos you are always so great at explain & I can tell you put a lot of time & effort in them, I hope you enjoyed the outcome as much as I enjoyed watching it because Ik sometimes as content creators we can be pretty hard in ourselves 🙏🏽🫶🏽🦔
I always enjoy your videos, thank you for being in depth and talking about your experience 🥰 I tried knitting a scarf once but I messed up and had to unravel and redo three times, and at that point I was done 😆 but you’re really motivating me to start again! Thanks so much ❤️
It's so interesting to see the exact other perspective :D i love your crocheting videos but im sooo bad at it! Knitting feels just much easier to me Also i personally always recommend holding the yarn in your left hand, in case any beginner reads this, it really feels more efficient and less crampy :)
I literally love these so much. As you were making the bottom orange ribbing to your personal cardigan, it reminded me of a pumpkin and straight away made me think of my friend because we wanted to have matching outfits for the fall/Halloween. I loom knit and it’s exactly the same as normal knitting, the terms are the same and everything, except it’s ofc, on a loom and loose, but that depends on your pattern, tense and if you use 2 balls of yarn together. So this has inspired me 😭. I’m also slowly learning how to crochet with my mom!! So I really hope I could also crochet somethiing soon! Maybe before October 🫶🏼🫶🏼 Lots of love!!!

Oh and I found that (at least for me) that so long as I follow the needle recommendations on the package, the gauge that they put on the pack works just fine in knitting.
All of the cardigans came out so beautiful! You have an amazing eye for design! 💕
I liked how you plan everything before buying the materials. You're so organized.
i just love that you can made this for the beginner and everything say just makes sense
The second one is soo cute!! I love how it drapes down
I have been knitting for years and didn't know that button band trick, I've learned something new today!
ive been binging your videos lately because im sick and i just wanna say i really love them, they give me comfort and inspiration. and you're so nice for making tutorials as well. So yeah I just wanted to say, fantastic videos!
Love them! Especially the last one. Love the colours and the way you did them. Will try that one myself. Thanks for the video
I love knitting so much in the past after so many years now I crossed your account and my love for knit is coming back… thank you so much, the design the colors are soooo beautiful and YES you are very beautiful
I don’t want to freak you out but I love you, this video helps soooo much
You were the first video I watched when I decided I wanted to crochet and know just as I decided to start knitting I get your vid recommend
i started loom knitting this year and your videos have been an extremely helpful guide for me. i have no idea what im doing fr but i have 80% of a cardigan put together correctly rn and i think its so cool
This is absolutely phenomenal... I've never knitted a cardigan or sweater, but I definitely want to! 😍
Oh NO! I do not need another cardigan right now, but this pattern is so CUTE!
Literally i want those last three so bad 😭❤ they look amazing
I've been trying to start my own cardigan without an actual pattern and this is the exact video I needed to figure out the little details !! perfectly made!! thank you!
I’ve been crocheting for over five years now and I just started to get into knitting and this vid helps sooooo much! I love all of the designs and I hope that I can make this cardigan one day 😆😆😆
Watching Stevemn universe whilst making something is so real. Also, I just starting knitting when I know how to crochet and you're right, it's way more difficult
Com tantos videos de tutoriais de cardigans fiquei impressionada com esse! Os três cardigans mais bizarros que já vi na vida.
please i am so so impressed with you !! you should be so proud of yourself this is no easy feat. what a FLEXX
These turned out so cute! You did a great job!
Wait is my favourite youtuber now knitting? ILYSM 🤩❤️
Thank You girl! You mare such an extraordinary cardingan! You'll be the most beautiful this autumn. You spent so many hours reserching and gave us all that information...RESPECT!
OMG THANK YOU THIS IS MY DREAM VIDEO FROM MY FAVORITE UA-camR!
I love how you do with the colors always stunning
I don't really know what knitting feels like, but your videos are so cool it makes me want to rock and roll 🥰
You did a really good job of explaining the stitches and how to do everything! You’re very thorough
UA-cam recommended your video and I’m very grateful for that because even english is not my first lanquage I understood everything you explain so easily Thank you very much 🥰
The pastel sweater is so so cute.
Stunning colors, in particular the second one!
I love your videos. I listen while I crochet. You have great ideas and directions plus very easy to listen to. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos.
Just bought some yarn and knitting needles so I could try this, you made it look so easy! Thank you for the tutorial!!!
Thank you 🙏 for laying all the pieces out! Soooo helpful! Great work too!
New subscriber..I've been a knitter (left handed) for almost 54 years, and guess what I'm still learning
I'm so glad to see you back with a new knitting video this year. Now I'm thinking what I should knit. And this time I have to take care of my back and hands because I hurt them last year, too hahaha
Thank you so so much!
Literally amazing 😍😍😍😍 they’re all so cute
Love this 😭❤️❤️❤️ Girl you're good at this can't wait to start ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am also a crocheter and recently started to knit. I struggled A LOT for tension with the right hand... Then found out about continental knitting style. You hold yarn with the left hand, so it's a lot similar to crochet and I found it so much easier to have the right tension! Hope this helps. The cardigans are beautiful anyway aaaaa
You did such a good job on all of them! The green one for your friend is my personal fav :)
The cardigans looks soo cool, comfy and just amazingly gorgeous ❤
love this video!
You went off with these!😊🔥🙌🏾
Thank you for this very explanitory video. Love it! Seasoned in crochet and want to knit too. Best video so far! Xx
Thank you!
Saw this on your tik tok waiting for a video on your UA-cam.... I'm sure excited 😭. Thank youuuu ❤️
hi just wanted to let u know u helped me sm in a lot of projects that i did, ur a blessing!
Haha, same. My mind cannot comprehend knitting over crochet, i need more visuals
Omg yess finally some knitting cause I loved your crochet outfits but I haven't learnt (still working on knitting and and I tried crochet but it was too hard )so I am so happy you are doing knitting now as you make really cool designs
Завдяки вам я відчуваю натхнення і готова знову взятися за в'язання 💜
Ive been waitinggg for this!!! 💕
You did such a great job! I love the last 3 you did. I'm inspired to start knitting my first cardigan
This is lovely I think your vibe is so cute 💜
I purple you💜
I love the cardigan you made for yourself, i have the same yarn type and i think i'll make me one too!❤
You did an amazing job. I’m so impressed.
I still can't believe how beautiful ur work is! as someone who just started knitting this video helped me sooooooo much. please make more vids like this!
You make it look so simple 😭
😆 I’m crocheting and I’m on the floor right now wal watching this so ya😂😂❤
I seriously love your videos you are always so great at explain & I can tell you put a lot of time & effort in them, I hope you enjoyed the outcome as much as I enjoyed watching it because Ik sometimes as content creators we can be pretty hard in ourselves 🙏🏽🫶🏽🦔
I always enjoy your videos, thank you for being in depth and talking about your experience 🥰 I tried knitting a scarf once but I messed up and had to unravel and redo three times, and at that point I was done 😆 but you’re really motivating me to start again! Thanks so much ❤️
omg I really love the fall cardigan you made for yourself. I'm gonna try to do one for myself. Too cuteeee !!!!
It's so interesting to see the exact other perspective :D i love your crocheting videos but im sooo bad at it! Knitting feels just much easier to me
Also i personally always recommend holding the yarn in your left hand, in case any beginner reads this, it really feels more efficient and less crampy :)
Maybe before October 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Lots of love!!!
I am definitely going to buy some green and orange yarn 😭, closer to fall time because I’m working on a Tyler the creator inspired cardigan.
OMG a tyler the creator cardigan? That sounds sooooooo nice already 😭😭 matching outfits with your friend would be so cute!
