I think this is the Year of Conclusions. I miss Geek and her picking a theme for the year. The themes she picked worked in all levels. You can make a full Chinese Australian Zodiac out of them, too bad we didn't get 12.
You know you've hit the right level of garbo when the player is lulled into a soft enough entry that they feel they can make progress, and then you ramp up the garbo so that they are too invested to skip. ;-P
this is actually so smart. I love the puzzle take on artificial “hot garbage” because there’s honestly something so satisfying when you find that dev exit or that cheeky power up that skips an impossible section. It feels amazing when you pick up the pieces of a broken, unfinished level and make sense of it. Also I think hot Garbo is just brimming with charm and is hilarious. Wonderful.
The level creators had to be doing something right, because this definitely evoked the spaghetti-infused nostalgia for the days of Thomandy, Carl v. Poo, and 100-man garbo runs. Those were simpler times...
@@moodragonx2 It's the flower musical level. I actually spent a lot of time trying to make it playable, and making sure that the "garbo" doesn't interfere with the playability, so hearing him rant about how much he wants to skip the level was a little disheartening. ^^
The thing about asking for MM1 garbo is that all the "Little Timmys" from that era have grown into "Not So Little Timmys"... so instead of normal trash, you get ADVANCED GARBO

Honestly, access to an extra checkpoint closer to a challenge would be a great reward for optional red coins in future levels. Like unlocking a door to a checkpoint right before the toughest final section or a checkpoint room with a powerup and a switch before the boss room that makes the boss easier. Make getting those those coins both truly optional and truly worth getting.
I wish I had finished my level for this. It would have been a level where you need to travel across the entire main world on 2 burners on tracks (each facing up and with opposite timing) as well as enemy spam and kaizo blocks. But I didn't want to commit to beating such a level
For ease of access, here are timestamps for the levels: 0:28 Spinee Obstacll Corse by ClarosK872 2:37 make mario go weeeeeeee by PaniniCake 11:08 YES by Smash boss 24:54 margot’s garbo cargo car by Ryebread09 31:16 make over the starting level!!!! by Renaldo Jr 35:45 [HGC] Flower Power: The Musical by Futaba
When you were looking at the editor for "Make over the starting level!!!!" it looks like there is also a key in the wiggler at the end, so getting the Dev key wasn't needed. Also is that a new editor on PC or something? Its really cool that you can just show the levels to the viewers like that.
This is exactly what I love about Mario Maker, and I feel like this is the aspect of the Mario Maker community that I would describe as negative. I know "hot garbage" is said with at least a bit of love here, but a vast majority of these types of levels were made by kids, and I don't think it's said with love everywhere else, despite LOOK HOW MUCH FUN CARL IS HAVING. So many people were so preoccupied with rules for making a "good level" while forgetting how unfiltered raw creativity still leads to fun. It's just unbalanced, spontaneous, silly fun instead. It's what I thought Mario Maker was about and what I was expecting when I purchased the game. By all means celebrate excellent levels and level design by the community, I just wish it was done more without dismissing other types of levels and ignoring the potential fun you could have by just going into 100 Mario Challenge and just playing levels and experiencing all of the variety on offer that I never get anywhere that doesn't have community made content.
I think the solution to the second level might be getting the not spike shell with the bomb, then, something something springs and bumpers and diagonal slopes riding the shell up to the spike shell?
Hey, does anyone know why the level viewer is working for some levels but not others? Like some levels uploaded earlier aren't in the system yet but some uploaded afterwards are in the system? Thanks!
create extremely hard hot garbage level......call it "can you find the dev exit ? 8750"... while not actually putting a dev exit just to troll ppl to make them look for it :P
There was a clause to go for the feel of the design style while AVOIDING extreme frustration. That last level towwed the line very carefully, and lacking either CP would likely have seen a full nope out.
If you do something like this again I feel like you need some sort of rule against noise, or just instantly skip those levels, because it is painful and you don’t want to encourage that sort of stuff
This has been REALLY fun and nostalgic so far. If you'd like to make a garbage level, the discord for submissions is here:

Has Carl ever played Minecraft; the way home? That's such a prototypical Little Timmy level

Hmmm I wonder why streamers do not play Mario maker 2 anymore? Carl do you know?😂😂
8:38 Death Counter stoppage @16
I love that the video is sectioned off into chapters named "Not Terrible," "Terrible," and "Not Terrible."
You know you've hit the right level of garbo when the player is lulled into a soft enough entry that they feel they can make progress, and then you ramp up the garbo so that they are too invested to skip. ;-P

Larl: I miss Hot Garbo, real Hot Garbo.
Community: Say less.
35:47 "Flower Power" is now genuinely one of my favorite levels of mm2
The light platforming hooks you into the level... and then they use that gained trust for evil. Truly a work of art.
The level creators had to be doing something right, because this definitely evoked the spaghetti-infused nostalgia for the days of Thomandy, Carl v. Poo, and 100-man garbo runs. Those were simpler times...
Carl's just crowdsourcing ideas for his next level.
Maybe the real hot garbage was the friends we made along the way
Maybe we were the hot garbage and our friends were the players
47:35 USMC First Recon Larl never misses a shot.
So after seven years and building dozens of levels, I've finally made it into a UA-cam video. \o/ Just wish it would have been with a better level 😅
Yay? Yay! 🎉 😄👍
Gratz!
Congrats and good job! Which one?
Based on the pfp I'm guessing you made flower power?
@@moodragonx2 It's the flower musical level. I actually spent a lot of time trying to make it playable, and making sure that the "garbo" doesn't interfere with the playability, so hearing him rant about how much he wants to skip the level was a little disheartening. ^^
Carl is honestly the most entertaining, wholesome youtuber
Damn you bought this UA-camr wholesale?! Jealous
@KnotXaklyRite ngl i didnt even knew 😂
scott’s thoughts (pokemon solo challenges) is up there
Carl is wonderfully entertaining and genuine. , like Geek ( 😢)..but DGR may have him beat in the wholesome category 😅
Wholesome? I love him, but WHOLESOME? 😂
aw man that was kinda refreshing, I haven't seen this much hot garbage, jank and spaghetti in a while
2:38 new alarm alert
hour long ear destroying note (for my ringing tone)
The best Garbo I’ve ever made was just a battle with the 7 koopa kids all stacked. Surprisingly a ton of fun.
"Margo's Garbo Cargo Car" is easily top ten best Mario Maker level names ever XD
Margot's garbo cargo car goes far, so... hard no.
this is like the mario maker equivalent of abstract art
Really glad the troll videos are still coming

Wow, great video, Carl! You’re an awesome person when it comes to mario.
You just jumped right into my heart!
43:15 genuinely sounds like something Gyorgy Ligeti would write, like his Chamber Symphony or something like that
Yes. I had his Vertige piano etude come to mind myself
In the last level before the final key door the note blocks are are aligned like the final fantasy fanfare
11:06 oh my god the sudden change of tone scared me for a second haha
I was playing endless normal and got a 3D world level that was nothing but springboards and thwomps, it felt very much like smm1, and in 3d world!
I audibly gasped at 41:51 😂

This is legitimately super fun.
Once again Carl is causing cancer instead of curing it! And I’m onboard.
This has me very tempted to make my own scalding refuse. ;-P
That shell snipe scream is world-class, goddamn.
carl once again proves even hot garbage levels can be really fun
“Bloopers are so betrayal” 😂
0:38 peak mario maker
23:38 they won from the checkpoiont by luring the bonzai bill to the left to jump on

that level at 9:45 remembers me to carl vs poo carls 1st level!
I would have loved to participate, I'm infinitely sad to have missed this one
11:04 there is a cloud by the skull platform. Looks like you have to rush to it before it despawns
49:10 Sunk cost fallacy LOL
I got an ad for curing “stuck poo” lmao

I really think there was a missed opportunity with no one making a Jbizzle level. LOL
I don't think the second level made you slowly ride the twisters over the spikes for nearly long enough before dropping you into the death room
Will keep that in mind for next time
Said only once in all of human history:
"Does this go to a water level? ... YAYYYYY YAYYYYY~!"
"Bloopers are so betrayal."
meanwhile endless noskip players : im quitting
Can't wait for Panga to get one of these.
43:35 this sounds like something you'd hear in warioland 4
The only man brave enough to do a hot garbage level contest
Playing Hot Garbo instead of making it. How nostalgic. 😉
2:25 You can also grab a P switch to swim faster
I bet with the door B one that the bomb you grabbed has to be brought back to blow up those blocks and you have to repeat that like 5-6 times.
That springy blue lift level was fun
Local scientist enriches society, more at 11
I don't really watch mm stuff anymore, but I watch Carl stuff.

A couple of months ago in a stream by Ryu: "Atsui Gomi"
Smash boss awesome as always
Characters talking in ‘Don't Starve’ be like; 45:30
Love when you keep yelling over the level THERES A HELMET!!!!
To replicate 100 mario challenge better, you should add the 1ups at the end of the level
the real hot garbo are the gorbs we met along the way
36:22 WHODATBOY?WHOHIM-
Where did the idea of 100 Man go? Right into the hot garbage can, obviously.
11:03 Looks like there is a hidden cloud next to the claw. sadge
Oh how I wish Mario Maker 1 existed in Mario Maker 2
Would dropping the pow in the tube in the second level activate the moving skull platform?
60 fps! Thank you very much for changing to this amazing framerate!
According to Merriam Webster, hot garbage can be found at 18:37.
Dumpster Diving today, eh?
I can only say: be careful what you wish for!
even easier, just reenter the pipe to despawn the piranhas from the hidden blocks... I mean GG
2:33
Why does this beat actually go hard?
if anything, a horrible garbo level with checkpoints, is just the levelcreator flexing
*ASKS USERS TO MAKE TRASH* "THIS IS TRASH"
Can't wait for 3D world hot garbage
47:37 had me crying 😭😭😭
Drop a whole stage of fish on the players.
We NEED another run.
47:30 Beautiful

Congrats on only losing 16 lives throughout the video. 🎉
Bring Geek out of retirement so she can play these
The level you boo’d was the best one :(
Should be only using Mario for all these levels.
It certainly smells authentic…. 🤢
🎉
holy sh the first one is hot
These levels have too many CPs for SMM1

as the maker of the 2nd level, I disagree, more noise machines needed :)
Yeah I should've just skipped tbh
@@CarlSagan42Can your editor fill in the missing DEATH counter since 8:38 please? 😅🎉

10/10 video
14:10 you really called 'a twirl' a spin ?
It has been so long…
😂
