I've been editing in capture one for years and didn't know the tools could be pulled out. Gamechanger! Thank you so much!

I like both versions of the photograph equally Kasia. They each invoke a unique mood. Very cool!

Another inspiring lesson, Kasia, and comforting, especially in my case since the vast majority of my own photos fall under this category, LOL. Really, it's nice to be encouraged to retain less-than-perfect images that nevertheless call our attention, experiment with them a bit, depart from the straighter path and see where our restlessness leads. Sometimes we surprise ourselves (you've already seen one example from me, recovered from Session Trash only because I was bored and wanted something to edit ;).

Thank you Randall. The biggest surprise was seeing the image's title. Coincidence? 🎲

@@KasiaZmokla No, thank google for that. Otherwise I would've had a much easier time with the long names in all those Russian novels. (What is it about Slavic languages that make them insist upon using almost every letter in the alphabet simultaneously?) LOL
Really, that photo suffered in every respect and sat in my trash for a long time, with the subject strongly backlit and underexposed. It's amazing what C1 can accomplish, although it also required a round-trip to Affinity, in order to most effectively remove some distracting background along one of the edges. It started as an indifferent exercise (and I'm all but helpless when it comes to using Affinity), but afterwards, besides learning a lot, I found myself visiting the photo again and again (it haunted me), until finally I moved it from Trash and placed it among my other images.
I wonder now how it appeared on your big Retina display (because I forgot to include a note warning you not to peep at any pixels ;)

@@randall8496 No pixels, the image looks great! You gave the rough subject such elegant and minimalistic touch. Those sandy, brownish tones with a hint of complementing cyan. Very classy. If he was facing the lens, possibly the image would look strange cropped that way. But since the subject is in a sense indifferent and not willing to reveal the face. Or maybe not aware of being observed. Either way it looks very well composed, harmonious and refined.

@@KasiaZmokla Thank you for complimenting the colors, Kasia; that´s very flattering coming from you. I shoot very rapidly and mostly by instinct. Often it is only afterwards during editing that I discover what it was within my view that caught my attention in the first place and so I hone in on that (I never revise images in camera). I crop a lot of images severely for this reason and purposefully, often while shooting, if there's enough time to think about it. I have no problems lopping of heads, if they don't suit my intention or seem redundant somehow, and many of my images reflect this, willing subjects or no. Some of my favorite 'portraits' are of persons lacking heads entirely. LOL I prefer subjects to be unaware of my presence anyway, which was the case here. I was very close in fact, seated just behind him in the shade, only a few feet away, but nevertheless had my lens somewhere around 135mm. The final image represents perhaps only half of the original frame, which is a fairly conservative crop for me. I got lucky.

@@randall8496 Hahahaha - that sounds awesome! "Can I see my portrait?" "Yeah, your head was redundant but otherwise it looks good".
