    This is an AWESOME video. I just purchased a 1983 G1 as a second golf cart for camp and it's having some starting issues. I am going to do this exact repair and will see if that helps. Again, thanks for documenting all the steps. Very helpful.

    I have the exact same golf cart as the one in this video and it is behaving the exact same way. I dread having to take the carb off and deal with that.

    i just picked up a g1 yamaha and the last owner has been monkeying around with the fuel lines , do you know where i can find a diagram to hook them back up where they go ? he has this thing hooked up all wrong , unable to get fuel to the carb , will start if i prime the carb with gas but dies immediately , tested the fuel pump and there is no pulse going to the pump so it cannot operate , ive replaced all lines making sure they all have good connection but again the last guy rerouted everything and it isnt making much since the way it is , the cart is a sun classic

      I haven't had many G1 carts in the shop as most of them are so rotted out or the owners blew them up. They should be very simple nonetheless. There should be a line that comes from the engine block to the fuel pump. This is the pulse/vacuum line that runs the pump. Make sure this line is clear and that there is a pulse coming off the engine. If there isn't a pulse, it may be blocked on the engine, I've seen it happen with the 4-strokes. There isn't a strong pulse on the 2 cycle engines. The other lines should come from the bottom of the fuel tank to the inlet of the pump and the third line from the pump to the carb. There is a fuel filter that screws into the bottom of the tank on the older Yamahas and they usually rot and block the fuel line. You have to drain the tank to replace it. If you pull the fuel line off the tank and see if it flows free. If not, drain the tank and remove that filter. I just remove the filter element and reinstall the threaded part without a filter. I usually just add an in-line filter somewhere before the pump so its easier to service in the future.

      @@Kevinsgolfcarts the way its hooked up is the fuel from the tank is hooked up to the fuel pump and the other two lines are hooked to the left and right of the carb , there is no pulse hose to be found , do you know roughly where the hose normally hooks to the block ? All the images i have found show the hose on the left of the carb is to be looped over the carb and not hooked to anything instead its hooked to the pulse side of the fuel pump

      @@Kevinsgolfcarts I found where it goes , i went to my local golf cart shop and sure enough they had a g1 in the boneyard , the next time anyone needs to know , the hose to the pulse side of the fuel pump hooks up under the intake on the block , you cannot see it because its blocked from sight up under the intake but you can feel it , thank you for your time i really appreciate your help , i knew this didnt look right the way he had it hooked up , it made no since

    Cleaned the carb. Starts intermittently and fails still. Thinking gummed-up gas tank or fuel filter now. Also, how do you know where to set the choke position? It seems like the choke doesn't work very well on this one. If you put your hand over the choke hole, it usually starts up, but won't run properly with the breather throat in place.

    I had the same issue, replaced the carb, it now runs, but has low to no power if I start on a grade and spits and sputters.
    Any ideas?

    Hey Kevin, I just purchased a 1989 Yamaha G2 from a friend this morning and he told me the last time it ran was 2 years ago. It was doing the same thing as yours in the video so I immediately took the carb off and cleaned it. I also drained the gas tank and put new gas in. I checked the air filter and oil as well. Also checked the spark plug. It will sit there and crank but not fire up. Any ideas?

    Hi Kevin, I know I have asked this before but see the dirty colour of the fuel tank is it possible to get that sparkling clean?

  • @bigshowradio_550
    @bigshowradio_550 5 років тому

    My G2 is doing the same, cranks, spark but won't run. It has sat for almost 2 years so most likely the same thing. Biggest problem is it keeps going through clutches. I've put 4 on in 4 years. Throws the weights. I have the same shop fix it and it last a year or less. They actually pierce the shroud on the clutch and crack it. Not a single video that I can find to explain why this is happening. It's not ridden rough, just for golf. Let me know if you've ever seen this happen. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for the great tutorial. I have a g16 that the break pedal doesn't return to original position.. do you have a video on this scenario

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  4 роки тому

      The brake pedal return spring is too weak to return the pedal and the pivot bolt probably has some rust on it. You will have to disassemble the pedal assembly, clean the brake pivot bolt and replace the return spring.

    @kevins golf carts is that beeping sound when you put it in reverse factory, I have that same cart but that sounds d does it happen

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 роки тому

      All golf carts should have the reverse buzzer activate when putting it reverse. This is a safety device. Some people disconnect them or the control switch fails.

    Can you rebuild the clutch on one of the G1 models?

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  Рік тому

      I don't belive so, but I have not needed to replace or rebuild one before. We don't have many that old around here.

    Hi , I know little to nothing about golf carts , but I picked up a G1 , Unknown what year .... my question is , should it fire up and idle ? Or only fire up and run as long as the pedal is pressed ? Mine fires up but dies as soon as the pedal is released

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  4 роки тому +1

      Golf carts should shut off completely when you release the accelerator pedal. There are a few exceptions to those that have been modified. These vehicles are designed to run only when you press the pedal, speed up and stop when you release the pedal. For their main design use, on a golf course, it would be annoying and expensive to leave it idle while not in use.

    Do you know the carb adjustments my uncle has a g1 and it was running then let it sit for like an hour and now it won’t start cleaned the carb and it was dirty it wants to start but it won’t any ideas

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  4 роки тому

      I'm not 100% sure but there might be a mix screw. I usually start with it all the way in and then back it out 1.5 turns. Run the engine at full speed then make fine adjustments in and out from that point. Aside from that, there aren't any adjustments on most golf cart carburetors.

    Crankshaft seals are very important in 2 stokes ! Dont overlook them !

    Video was very good if the camera would have shown it. A suggestion would be to have someone operate the camera and not just have it focused on the drain pan. THANKS

      A camera operator is not a luxury most of us have. Besides, I like to work alone.

    Since you'll have to do it anyway...It's better to clean the outside off First,,that way all that crud and what gets on the Gloves doesn't get into the Carb...just saying..

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  2 роки тому

      I typically will clean the entire thing but only if its worth it. I've had carbs corroded internally and needed to be replace so its not always worth it. It depends on the condition of the carb.

      Sorry about that. Its difficult to film sometimes with the space I'm working in. Once I get my bench area setup for filming, I will have an overhead view and multiple camera angles. Thanks for watching!
