    I have just purchased a 97 G16AR. No matter what video of yours I watch I learn something new. I'm putting brake lights in my cart but decided to use a motorcycle spring type switch... easier adjustment with the floor out. My engine cuts out a slow speeds also... so seeing you replace the accelerator switch made me go look at mine and lo and behold there's an adjustment. Thanks for the video

    Ahhh the memories.
    My first job after high school 1979 was a golf car mechanic.
    Great Lakes Golf Cars. started out building them....and I mean hundreds of them.
    Yamaha G1A1 since I had fairly extensive mechanical ability from working on my dirt bikes I moved up to mechanic quickly. Then onto road service everything West of Cleveland to to the Indiana line and up into Michigan. I easily had over a thousand cars in my service.
    Saw every Yamaha warranty update possible, brake pedal shafts, starter switches, fuel pump diaphragm, secondary shive springs and bushings, motor mount limiters, steering shaft pin and on and on.....
    Went to Yamaha Golf Car service school in NJ....I knew things about the cars the instructors never knew....surely because of the huge fleet I serviced.
    Best job I ever had.
    Thanks for the vids.

    Hi Kevin, love your videos, wish I had found them earlier. My dad(94) and I had refurbished about 13 carts a year until it became too difficult for him. I could have saved myself Soo much time by viewing your videos vs figuring stuff out myself.i have one suggestion for you! Spend 5 minutes to power wash every cart before you start. So much nicer to work on a cleaner cart plus the customer will love it. I never really ran into a issue with a cart being wet from power washing. Thanks for your videos

    I had a problem with my 2011 Yamaha gas cart. Thought it solenoid or battery. Battery was old anyway 5-6 yrs. New Battery, helped some. But after checking. Found it highly possible the gas pedal solenoid switch was hanging up and not kicking in on the solenoid . Before I spend $$ on switch I removed and rolled back the rubber boot and sprayed blaster and worked the switch for about 10 times. While I was working on that I also adjusted the gas cable there at the pedal about 2 rounds. To give a little quicker response when pressing the pedal. Tightened it up and replaced the stop switch. Everything at this point seems to be running much better. If the switch starts to hesitate again, I'll purchase a new one at that time. The gas pedal switch is exposed to the dust and dirt under the floor board. don't forget that if cart is not staring when pressing the pedal. listen for the solenoid to click. If no clicks or intermediate clicks, ck the pedal switch, too.

      Golf carts are setup to start and run from the gas pedal. The primary clutch isn't setup on these for an idle state so they end up grabbing the belt and wearing it out in one spot. I'm not sure what you mean by it dies too early.

    thank you for the wonderful repair videos, Kevin... I can't find a relevant vid so I will ask you here; can the YAMAHA J42-85590-01-00 CDI CONTROL UNIT kill the entire electrics in a Yamaha G16A gas cart? the local mechanic said it was actually the brake light switch/brake light timer...? cart died after a stop and would not run again so pushed it home... battery tests out good/load test good... was attempting to depress the accelerator pedal to listen for solenoid clicks and saw a spark & heard crackle... only thing near on wall was this unit... removed, checked for continuity, reinstalled... lights and all electrics worked until I again depressed the gas pedal and spark/crackle, no juice... seems that after resting for a bit, the circuit is restored but again fails with each use... this is a rather expensive item so I ask, is there any way to test for proper function before purchasing a new one??? thank you for your time and expertise...

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts

      Depends on which rear it is. EZGO was on drugs between 88-91 so all of those years are different, depending on the actual model code. Otherwise, those are pretty easy to repair. Best thing would be to remove the rear from the cart and disassemble it.

    Will the stop switch also keep the cart from shutting off completely if it’s faulty?

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 роки тому

      Yes, that is a possibility. These switches rarely fail, but like anything else, they do. The cart not shutting off when you release the pedal could be a few different things. If the engine continues to crank but isn't actually firing the spark plug, that could be the solenoid sticking. If the engine is cranking and running, similarly to a very low idle, that could be a stuck stop switch or a bad ground. These engines use magneto ignition. They short the ignition system to ground in order to kill spark. You can check this by unplugging the spark plug wire and plugging in a spare spark plug. Just let it rest on top of the engine near a metal component. Crank the engine using the pedal and watch for spark. Let it rotate for a few seconds and release the pedal. If the spark stops when you release the pedal, then you may have a stuck solenoid. If spark keeps going while the engine is slowing down, there is an issue closing to ground. You can check the stop switch by unplugging it and using a ohm meter to check continuity. The connector is under the floor. If that checks out, then the ground wire on the ignition coil may have come off or is broken. You will have to remove the engine cover to check that. I've had the ground wire connector fail causing the ground circuit to no longer function.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 місяці тому

      There is a fuse located in the harness near the battery or under the black cover above the battery. It should be a 10A fuse. If it keeps blowing, then the solenoid needs to be replaced.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 роки тому +1

      You have to prime the new fuel pumps. You may also have a tiny vacuum leak. Make sure the siphon tube is still attached inside the tank. If that came off, nothing will be pumped from the tank.

    Hi Kevin, what would be the quick simple diagnostic test to test foot pedal switch? Over other potential issues? ie how can I quickly rule in/out the FPS? With key in on position and pedal depressed motor wont crank over! Apparently it could be many things, fuses, bad connections, solenoid, relays, starter, battery etc etc etc... but I want to rule out the FPS first, what test would I do to confirm it's a fault with the pedal switch? Appreciate your feedback!!

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  2 роки тому +1

      Using a multi meter on ohms to check continuity across the pins is the only sure way to test it. The switch has 2 positions. 2 pins are closed when pressed and 2 pins are closed when released. You could check the small terminals of the solenoid for 12v when the pedal is pressed. If there is 12v at the solenoid then the solenoid is probably bad if its not closing. If its closing and 12v is passing to the starter/generator, the brushes may be wore out in the starter/generator.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  2 роки тому

      Yamaha carts shut down by shorting the ignition coil to ground when you release the accelerator pedal. If the engine continues to run when the accelerator pedal is release, 1: the accelerator pedal is not fully retracting causing the accelerator pedal switch to stay engaged, 2: the ground wire coming from the coil is disconnected from the coil, 2 pin connector coming from the lower front of the engine is broke, corroded or disconnected, 3: the stop switch relay is faulty or 4: there is a bad connection to ground somewhere in the stop circuit. If you search for a wire diagram for your year make and model, you should be able to follow the wires and check each connection. You will have to remove the blower cover from the engine to inspect the ignition coil ground wire.

      They are even questionable right now. UPS, at least for me, has been the most reliable.

    My golf cart is a violation of all environmental and safety standards. It's a 1977 harley Davidson so it's a blue smoker. It's not oil injected so you half to mix the gas before you put it in the tank (if you have a junk harley Davidson golf cart laying around then can u sell/give me the arm rest/hip restraints (mine are missing

      Hey Kevin I have a 2018 ezgo valor with a Kawasaki motor. When you mash the gas pedal it spins but you have to back off the pedal or play with it before it fires and runs or just hold it down for about 5 or six seconds before it will run . Is there anything I can look at are replace to get a quicker start out of this cart ?

    Just today I foind that our 1999 G16A will not shut off. That's right will NOT shut off. Would you be willing to point me in the right direction? I can get it to shut off if the brake is applied and held down and you "punch" the gas pedal quickly - it will usually quit. I bet this never happens anywhere in the world. GD thing is possessed.

      Solenoid stuck

      @@terryeaster7421 I replaced the foot switch and the solenoid. Maybe if I "guess" and throw some more parts at it I might by some chance get it right. Still won't shut off. Maybe I will through that $150.00 start/stop relay at it. What are your thoughts?

      @@davidm2645 Im just saying , It happened to me when I put an aftermarket solenoid. I would have to see a schematic and trace it down with a test light. If that 150.00 relay is stuck, the motor should quit when you unplug it

      @@terryeaster7421 Thank you for the good advise. I also herd that if the voltage regulator is bad it can back feed to the ignition side and that will cause the same symptom. I will try the relay test as you mentioned.
