I love Sade. She's one of my favorite 80s-90s singers. Such a different voice than any other voice. 💃🕺💃🕺
The number of children around the world conceived to a Sade album is incalculable.
I swear this song was played twice an hour on the top 40 station back then.
She's incredible and her songs are so poetic
As an amateur, I will say that the song is incredibly pleasant to one who doesn't know much about the rhythm(s), which are "catchy", almost hypnotic, and definitely hook -- you even found yourself (couldn't help?) moving to the song. 🙂 Same with her voice -- almost hypnotic, pleasant, real smooth, and then there's the "huskiness/sultriness" factor. She's got an X factor -- somewhere in between smooth, pleasing, elegant, sexy, understated. Hard to put a finger on it, but this song definitely has it. The music does blend perfectly with her persona. The sax, too, to the uninitiated -- is silky smooth and pleasant -- doesn't aspire to be more, and is catchy -- hooks the uninitiated -- like myself (and millions of others). I enjoyed your honest reaction, and your thoughts on absence of vibrato, long sustained notes, absence of plosives. Thanks!
Postscript: watching your video brings up (algorithmic miracle!?) "Tonight we attempt to unravel the MYSTERY of Sade" by Wings of Pegasus (whoever that might be). (!!)
The album is called Diamond Life, Smooth Operator the song. No dinner party was complete in the mid-eighties without this record bothering the turntable or CD player.
Sade is actually a band, so all the instrumentation, sax included, is integral to there intended sound. Also, there was additional expository footage in the beginning of the long form video.
You need to hear them live especially sweetest taboo and soldier of love.
I appreciate the honesty.
One of my all time favourites ❣
SADE 🔥💞🔥
I love the saxophone! It was pretty popular in Careless Whisper also. Appreciate your reactions even when you don’t really care for the song.
Such a great song!
❤ lol Ken I love it. Love the sax.... love jazzy music
Enjoyed your reaction...
No Ordinary Love is fire. Amazing!
I remember when this came out
Me too. I ran to the record store and bought it!
Saxophone in 80s pop music: Almost omnipresent, and therefore more often that not just painfully ostentatious, pompous, forced and out of place. This was an obvious exception to that rule.
Her performance of the song, Killer Blow, in the movie Absolute Beginners was terrific.
"Coast to coast, LA to Chicago" Yes, Chicago, that famous seaside town.
As much as I love Sade, it appears that geography isn’t her strongest suit.
The Great lakes are said to be the third coast of the United States. It seems you two don't know much about geography and are projecting. The Great Lakes are considered to be inland seas and their beaches are coastlines and not shores. So yes, Chicago is in fact a seaside town. Unlike L.A. which is an Oceanside town.
She said Maine right after😅
@ she said “Western male” according to the official lyric sheet.
@ “western Maine” doesn’t make any sense, especially after LA to Chicago”.
I haven't heard that song in a long time 👍
I grew up in the 80s, and being a metal-head back than, but also having a dad and an uncle who where a lot into Jazz (Coltrane etc.), the 80s pop-sax was definitely "the enemy", everything I disliked about pop-music at that time. Not only no distorted guitars, but not even the somehow cool and wild sax stuff I new from my dad and uncle.
But I have to admit, when I grow older and widen my horizon, I kinda learn to appreciate that 80s sax and 80s pop in general. Sure, it's cheesy to the max, but somehow it works.
A better song to listen to her voice is probably s It A Crime (Live Video from San Diego), Start around the 2:10 mark.
My son played saxophone when he was teenager, but he stopped after he got fed up with our 5 dogs sittning outside his door sounding like wolves. The thing was that my son was talented to play that instrument, but he felt the dogs did judge him 😂🤣😂❤
Next should be sade ' is it crime ' ( lovers live ) ..
Brandi Carlisle “The Story” live on SNL
Hey Ken, I understand that she sings just a little bit sharply, which gives her that sultry sound.
Dear Mr Lavigne, I love your content and been watching for a few years all the way form France!
I'm taking this opportunity of fresh comments to drop these here in the hope your curiosity gets the better of you :
Corey Taylor - taciturn (live in London)
Sion - inside the hollow (because I'm sure you still feel cheated from that way too short Howard Jones version of simple man)
All the best to you! Cheers
Hey Mr. Ken we would like to see your reaction to Cem Adrian - Summer time. i believe you gonna love it!
React to llorona by Ángela Aguilar plz greats from Uruguay 🇺🇾
When can we get the "NO! TO NON-CONSENSUAL SAX" t-shirts?
I loved this song, but try Wasted Time, by Skid Rpw... one of the greatest vocal performances.
Rozalla (Zambia) - Are You Ready Fly? ua-cam.com/video/QovDYgNq9co/v-deo.html
Lulu James (Tanzania) - Loving You ua-cam.com/video/bhzJPP5HSNU/v-deo.html
Also can u review ( apitaph for king crimson)?
I can respect your thoughts. When listening to this song, I can concur & I can care less 😮. Step away from Sade. lol I’m playing
Can u review a song named( lights-archive? And simple mistake for best band in world anathema?
what about the vocals??? Opinions on everything except the vocals.
Nigerian born British singer. "I thought she was more exotic". What???
Check out this song ( googoosh nago bedroud )
No shade, Sade
الرابط من الاغاني الفلسطينيه الرائعه
her live performances are better than this
Pronounced "shar-day"
This is a great song that I already knew. Instead of describing the perfection and wonderful transitions in the song, your reviews focused almost entirely on the story told in the video. And by stopping the video at the most striking transitions of the song, you ruined the integrity of the song. That's why I didn't like your reviews.
I love Sade but she has much better songs than this one for sure
You don't know much about the music back then, do you?
Wow, you're really focused waaay too much on a sax. Annoying.
